Member  44  Calgary |  Subject: Waxing info I'm new to triathlons and well...esthetics as well. After a bad crash moutain biking with much open flesh, leg hair, and near infection, it was time to look at removing some follicle. Well, a week or so ago I went for my very first leg waxing appointment. I was told that it was "the best way if you don't want to maintain it as much". As an experiment, I wore the old HRM to remember what the experience was like....it hurt. The esthetician - "why you do this?" Me - "I'm doing an Ironman triathlon" The Esthetician - "not very manly" as she tore 1400 pain sensitive follicles from their subcutaneous home. Heart rate date included: 49minutes and you can see just about every strip. Enjoy the experience! brad. Does anyone else find it funny that someone would monitor their heart rate... well... let's face it... only a TRIATHLETE would do this during a waxing procedure! I think this needs to go in the, "You know you are a tri dork when...", thread. Well, welcome to our world... of waxing. Personally, I'll do my arms, but nothing else. I did the "brazillan" one time... when I was in India on business (hey, you can pass up arm and a brazillian wax, manicure, and pedicure for a grand total of $25!!!)... let's just say there was screaming... bleeding... infected hair folicles that produced pimples afterwards... AND it only lasted about 2 days (aka: the hair was already growing in and you could see it). Yes, totally gross.. right???!!!!! So, no more waxing for me, unless it's the arms. I tried the legs once... and it hurt too bad... so I got one strip done (I have a home waxing pot, like they have at the salon)... and nothing else. Edited by KSH 2006-08-07 9:25 AM |

More seriously, the longer you wax, the slower and finer it grows back and less of it grows back. I went once a month when I started a year ago and now I go once every six weeks. I have a friend who only has to do it once every two to three months and even then it's not very much. For those of you who tried to wax your legs at home, I definitely suggest going to the salon for it. I tried it at home and spent an hour getting only three strips done. I had to take deep breaths to psych myself up in between each one, and all were accompanied by some language I would never consider using in front of my mother. It was painful at the salon, but nothing like at home. And it gets . . . I won't say better, I'll say less painful each time. The woman who does it told me some of her clients fall asleep. I want to know what they're taking before they go. |

I was surprised: I didn't realize I even had hair back there. Then she talked me into doing laser hair removal. I thought it had to better than waxing. Well.... I was only partially right. It still hurt ALOT, but not as much as waxing. Did an ok job of it, and takes about 2 months to grow back. Expensive though. brad
