Extreme Veteran 759 Villanova | Subject: Runner's Knee I've self diagnosed myself with a case of runner's knee in both knees. I don't think its that bad of a case, but as I've focused on running over the winter, its gotten worse. No pain when running, but its gotten to the point where its pretty uncomfortable with rest of day to day life. I know I need to get back to swim and bike to cross train but am curious as to how others of you have strength trained, foam rolled, stretched etc to help strengthen muscles, knees, etc so that you've been cured. What was your regimen like? How soon until you saw results? Did you keep running or did you stop? Thanks to all in advance! |

I'm a rugby player so have lots of little niggling injuries, I try and determine if these are ones I can "run off" or not. It's important to recognise when you have a pain that you can not run off and stop e.g minor muscle tears. I find running in winter I have more aches and pains, probably due to cold muscles, as soon as summer hits, everything is sweet. I'd suggest wear skins, warming up your muscles thoroughly and stretching before & after running. Also ice (frozen peas) are your best friend - even a slight niggle or pain, whack ice on it. Also if the runners knees persists, see a physiotherapist. I occasionally get runners knee pain and pain in the hamstring tendon (right leg), I think I don't have a symmetrical running style i.e my right leg pronates more, I've found that playing around with my running style has helped the pain go away. This is something you could try, next time you're in pain, try different foot strikes e.g deliberately over-pronating or supinating the foot for a few minutes, see what happens. |
