Expert 3145 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: Race Fees...new pricing idea Why don't we make race fees on a sliding scale that gradually increases as time on course increases? If you think about it, the faster you are off the course the less resources you demand and the lower financial cost of your participation. Thoughts? |

Extreme Veteran 3025 Maryland | Subject: RE: Race Fees...new pricing idea That is one very expensive flat tire. Time on the course doesn't really impact the cost of the event so all you are doing is discriminating against newer athletes and older athletes. |

i'm slow, so i would just stop racing. but - so would all the other slow people. and we subsidize your racing fees for you. |

Subject: RE: Race Fees...new pricing idea So what, the RD has to collect and/or adjust fees post race? Accounting nightmare.....Plus it just sounds [insert bad word here]-ey I bet ST forum would be largely in favor though. |

Expert 3145 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: Race Fees...new pricing idea I have to imagine course/road closure and paid services (police/emt/etc) cost for each additional amount of time necessary. |

Subject: RE: Race Fees...new pricing idea Originally posted by thebigb I have to imagine course/road closure and paid services (police/emt/etc) cost for each additional amount of time necessary. But not as much as several hundred entry fees you'd be losing by charging 3 + hour Oly races more who would stop racing your race What's your angle? you're fast and want to pay less? RD's not making enough money? What exactly is the problem this is intended to solve? And I am not quite sure that road closure permits work like a cheap motel, by the hour, I believe there are set times, but someone may know for sure. Edited by ChrisM 2014-04-08 12:46 PM |

I SHOCKED that someone who's doing Boston and is sponsored by Zoot is saying this. |

Not a Coach 11473 Media, PA | Subject: RE: Race Fees...new pricing idea They already have this. It's called prize money. If you are out of the money, you slid off the scale with everybody else racing. |

Hey, I fully understand and accept that I'd be paying more than the actual fast kids out there. Heck, at a swimming event I'd probably pay more than anyone else. |

Subject: RE: Race Fees...new pricing idea We could also charge the faster athletes more because of the cost of awards and prizes. Heck...if there is a pro purse...the pros should be paying like $2k for their entry into a IM or 70.3. |

Queen BTich 12411 , | Subject: RE: Race Fees...new pricing idea So, when the slower people stop racing due to this model, your entry fees increase. Roads still need to be closed, permits to be hard, safety and security, etc. |

You are going to have to show your math on this. How much more will a slow person pay? How many slow participants will not enter due to the risk of the higher fee. Does the lower number of participants increase the cost for the fast people? You will also have additional cost in collecting (or refunding) the differences. |

Are RDs suffering? Is there a reason for the proposal? Or is it just a bit of a Tuesday troll.......... |

631 | Subject: RE: Race Fees...new pricing idea We could also expand this to pricing model to golf. Attend a sporting event and it goes into... overtime! Slap the spectators with an additional charge. |

Interesting to see the reaction here compared to other places.
FTR, I actually think races should just be cheaper for everyone |

It could totally work. I think they should do it cafeteria style. Gun goes off, they charge a pre-authorized $50. I've heard that on cruise ships they now give you a bracelet, they scan for charges, connected to your account. So as you come out of the swim, say at a HIM, under 28 minutes its $25, 28-33 is $30, 34-38 is $30, and so on.... If you take a drink of water between swim and T1, $5. Scanned going in and out of T1. Bike is a little tricky, but affix a sticker to the bike, as you come through aid stations, gatorade is $10, gel is $2.50, sort of like fast pass. Scanned as you come int transition. Under 2:30 is $30. 2:30-2:45 is $50, etc..... On the run, it's kind of a pain, but if you take something at an aid station, they scan you. Water $1. Gels $3 (more expensive on the run). Coke $5. If you want Reilly to say your name, that's $40. No acknowledgement is free, but you still pay based on finish time. under 4, 4-4:15, 4:16- 4:30, etc.... Faster you go and less you drink or eat, could be a really cheap half! |

No...well if it were put on ST it probably would Simply more the defensiveness in responses seem to be considerably more escalated here compared to elsewhere. |

I actually went back to look at the date of the post. There's so much wrong with this idea I won't even start. Or maybe we could propose having vending machines at the aid stations where you pay for what you take? Edited by jennifer_runs 2014-04-08 1:10 PM |
