Yes, if you are using software on the PC to control the CT.

There is a program that comes with the CT they call the coaching s/w.
You load an Erg file (I can send). at the end it asks if you want to save it.

Do you have this s/w on the pc ? Is the CT even connected to a PC ?

Yeah I have changed it before. Not sure the last time thou but probable the last time it was raced which was c maybe 09'.... the wheels are some 1991 Campagnolo wheels. I think they are the original to my Kestrel 200 SC. I do my own wrenching on all my bike unless it's some $250 tool. Kind of part of my hobbie....

Where are the holes in the tube in relation to the rim/tire?  That should give you a good idea at the cause.  I had a couple of flats while on the trainer (gasp!!) a few years ago.  Turns out it was an extremely small staple that was stuck in the tire.  You couldn't see it or feel it when inspecting the tire, but I suppose when the tube is inflated and the roller of the trainer is pressing firmly against the tire, the point of the staple comes out just enough.

Hey Marc, Yes I have the coaching software (CS) loaded on the laptop. I use that all the time, I just don't run it in erg mode. I think I know how to so I'll PM you a email address to send the erg file to. Thanks and Merry Christmas all.

btw doing a triple run tonight.

Happy Christmas everyone.

I've been thinking a bit more about my 2015 race plan. Think I'm going to transfer my IMMT entry to Silverman. With doing the emerg yr I think jumping onto the IMMT bus was a stupid decision (and would prob happen if I wasn't going to still be a resident but I am).

Also, think I'm going to go to UK/EU in March. Thinking about a half marathon in Marseille. London, Paris! Marseille, Brussels (conference) and Dublin. This is my plan thus far. I'm going shopppppppppppping. Minimal clothing going with me so I have room!

Friend Fred. You can lock things down to "Friends" or "Friend of Friend" for seeing, friend requests, and messages. About everyone here has friended him so should be able to find you from there.

I managed 385. You seem to have a lot of anaerobic capacity and ability to put out big watts for short periods.

It's not that bad a test is it ?

I found you on FB but it doesn't seem someone can add you as a friend. Not sure

Yeah the test is relatively ez. Marc I want to get 300w power for 112 miles what do I need to do? I am not sure if that realistic or obtainable for me at my age. I have no real referances and think my substainable power for that distance is maybe 230-240w range. What do you think of that?

I did not get a Garmin 810 Christmas. I did in fact get a cordless weed wacker. So having only $800 saved for power, would a 910xt work well with the Power Tap hub? At this point I can get either a PT or Garmin 810. The PT is actually more as I have seen new 810 bundles for under $500. I want the 810 for the maps and navigation. The new 24 hole PT will run just under $800. The I need the wheel built.

300w for 112 miles would be impressive!  Most of the pro power files that are posted from Kona seem to be in the 270-290w range if memory serves me.

The 910 will work fine with a powertap but if what you are after is maps and navigation, you might want to look at a used 800.  I've seen several on the ST classifieds lately in the $220 range.  I've been thinking of getting one for the maps as well.  Anyone have experience with that?  I know Fred has one.

Yes a 910 would work well with a powertape hub and it's a great run watch as well. But I think if on a budget I would look for a Garmin 310 as a watch or a used 500 as a cycling computer.

What kind of phone do you have ?

300w would 112miles will have you winning Kona. At our age, I think you need some Lance Vitamins to do it :-)

To give you an idea, to hold 300w for 112miles requires an FTP of about 430w, so you would need to be able to hold over 450 for that 20min test and 575 for that MAP test :-)

Marc, how well do you feel that 385 estimates FTP for you?  Just running the numbers though my head it seems like I would be in a world of hurt by the time I got up around those numbers!

Hahaha.........tells you how little I know about power. Yeah 300w would be way out of my league. lol really can belive that was a good number to through out there. I am such a power newbie. .....

Yeah I pulled a newbie on that........see above. Oh wait I think Lance is available to coach and he has some special vitamins huh.

Marc yeah maybe I give the 910xt a try. If it doesn't work out I might be able to save enough for the 810. I only want new and the navigation. Every Garmin I have own I have had to RMA. Thankfully they have all been under warranty hence that's why I want new.

Oh and I have a Samsung Note 3 with Android os.

They say it's 72 to 75% of FTP, so at 72%, 385 gives an FTP of 277, which is about where I am right now.

The 910 does not do navigation. I have an 800, it does navigation, it's great, but I end up pulling out my iPhone if i get lost. I bought the 800 for Europe when I didn't have data for the phone

And I agree on the quality of Garmin products. I brought my 910 in for service this week. I got a replacement and only have 3 months warranty left.

The guys riding at that power level tend to have an FTP starting around 390 and go up from there.  The professionals riding at a bit higher IF than most age groupers as they're better conditioned for it (much bigger volumes) and are side splits take substantially less time for them. Usually 4:30 or less unless the course is quite hard. The guys doing it also tend to be larger. Starting around Arend's size and getting more to my size. If you can do this, yeah, you would have a fair shot at winning the age group.

Ok so forget about the 300w fantasy.

I did Mont Tremblant 70.3 in 2013. My bike split was not bad at 2:39. I felt it was a little harder pace than I needed but I felt pretty strong. I did hurt on the run. Although my run was typical time wise.

I would like to do a 5:00-5:05 for Ironman Mont Tremblant in 2015. I think it's doable and not an overestimated time. So what kind of watts do I need to generate to obtain a 5:00 IM bike on that course?

Any constructive criticism accepted thaks.

Oh and I will do a ez sub 1hr swim. Goal is :58 comfortable.

I went 2:39 that year on 225w normalized, 210 average. the average is more what gives speed
That was 2.76w/kg. I suspect you were about the same

according to this you need about 3.1 w/kg to go 5-5:05

But remember you did the 1/2 at 80% of FTP and you will do the full at 70%. Your FTP will need to be 330/335ish depending on your weight

http://www.strava.com/activities/183973374 - that is Fred's 5:09 for the full IMMT this year on 209w.  I'm going to guess you need 220w+ to get down around 5:00-5:05.

Warning:  First World Problems rant ahead!

I am a lucky duck and The Better Half got me a 920xt for Christmas (suh-weet! I already love this thing).

However, I'm now in the middle of Garmin hell.  I transferred over to Garmin Express from ANT+ and seem to have lost all my files from my current 910xt (and can't get any files off my 800 onto Garmin Connect or Training Peaks - never mind that TP counts all my swims as runs for TSS and runs as swims for TSS - talk about some messed up numbers!). And I have several months of stuff that I'd like to get onto GC and TP.

I suppose that if I had switched as soon as Garmin Express came out and worked diligently to get all my files on all the online repositories and curated all the data right as I did the workouts, I'd be all good.  Buuuuuut, I have been a bit lazy and just logging here and on Strava.  Now that I'm back into more serious training, I'd like to use TP again.

Ugh - I think I'm going to have to do more work getting the electronica back in order than getting my FTP back where it should be (or at least not so in the basement anymore).  Any suggestions?

Like I said, first world problem, huh?

Happy Boxing Day!

Matt

I'm ~165 or a bit less at race weight and went 2:29 on a flat course last June in Grand Rapids on 206W avg and 210 weighted average (al la Strava).  Was easy to maintain a low VI with only a few rollers mid-course.  James, I recall you're bigger than I am, but think Marc's on with the W/kg estimate (course, conditions and such matter some, of course).

The bike will be something of a focus for me this late winter/spring, as long as I can find some places to ride around here without getting keeled.  I'm way off where I need to be for race season (can't even think about a 5 hr IM!).

Matt, do you have the Garmin -> TP auto sync setup so that when Garmin Express uploads to GC it gets sent over?  Are the old files still on the 910 or stored on your computer only?

if you have everything on Strava, you could use www.tapiriik.com to sync everything from Strava to both GC and TP but keep in mind you can't choose what to sync, it will do everything.
