So i got called out by my friend last weekend on a training ride for doing this "childish" thing.

essentially, i dropped down into my aerobars, profile T1's, put my thumbs on the caps on started pressing down on them and saying "pew pew pew". I do this pretty much every time i settle into my bars, i didn't realize i was saying it out loud though. This sparked a debate on whether or not other people would do this, he things that the cycling community is far to high strung for me to find others who think like this. I disagree, i believe we are all just children with more expensive toys.

So? Who has done this/ does this regularly? what other childish things do you guys do while out training? and be honest, who has never done this, but will be shooting down TIE fighters on their next ride?

Ok, I don't do this, but may soon. Hilarious! I do regularly ride with my Dad who always gets bad farts on the bike. Every time he lets one rip he yells, "JET POWER!" then pedals faster, and he's 62! Cracks me up every single time.

Life is too short take ourselves too seriously. Fire away!

That's funny. This is all about having fun. How many enemy fighters do you typically knock out?

Haha everytime my girlfriend sits on my bike she does that. We'd could all use a little more playfulness in our lives.

Your friend needs to lighten up. One of the things that I love about my bike is that it makes me feel like a kid just out there having fun and going as hard as I can.

X2..Always moo at the cows.

I always said Triathlons are the fountain of youth...we are brought back to our childhood. Riding a bike, running in rain puddles, swimming, mooing at cows, etc.

Every time I see a rabbit I say out loud "silly rabbit, trix are for kids". Then I spend the next few minutes wondering if I hit it but didn't kill it, could I put it out of it's misery...still unsure.

Whew!  Glad it's not just me.

(although Pew Pew Pew was a new addition today, I have been known to gobble or moo loudly on group rides - sometimes even in response to seeing an animal)

"QUACK QUACK QUACK"

That's what I shout when I'm with a group and we're approaching railroad tracks and everyone starts shouting "TRACKS TRACKS TRACKS".  I started years ago when I was riding the STP and a little loopy at 160 miles and thought it would be funny.

Most people don't notice I'm QUACKing instead of TRACKSing.  Some do notice and laugh, some do notice and give me odd looks. QUACKing never gets old. Try it.

There was some pro triathlete, can't remember her name, but she glued a little shark fin onto her helmet to remind herself to be silly and not take life too seriously. I also make the pew pew sounds, but I do it when I flash my high beams in the car.

I always wave at and say hi to animals I meet on my rides/runs. Hi horses, how you doing? Hello cows!, etc.

I don't acknowledge humans though... (Only kidding, sometimes I do )

Your friend needs to "grow down"

Never done it but you can be sure as heck I'm going to give it a go during my tri this morning! What I wouldn't give for a great TIE fighter aero helmet.

I thought I was the only one that does that. It started with mountain biking where the trail I rode looked kind of like the forest of Endor and I felt like I was driving a speeder. The Aerobars are a natural transition to operating an X-Wing.

Every time I go down a hill.

Childlike is different than childish.  If we aren't having fun, why bother?

I also say hello or talk to any critters I see.  Had a chat with a bear about the fact that we would stay back until she got her cubs across the highway.

I have not shot down anyone *(yet)

But, I have screamed 'Woo Hoo or WEEEEEEEEEEEE' when flying down a hill in aero in a race.
Usually followed by 'I LOVE downhills!'.

I have nothing new to offer here. Glad to hear that others make animal noises at the animals they meet. Thought I might be alone.

I do not "pew pew pew" my aero bars, but may find that it's more effective than cussing at the wind. I often talk to the wind, it usually goes something like "what the F did I do to you?" or similar type things, which is funny because I do not generally talk so foul.

I do not do that...but I am hence forth going to start! I think it's awesome. Especially when I get buzzed but a big, redneck pick up truck. I'm so dropping into aero and pew, pew, pewing them. That'll show em!

I think you're friend is right about the cycling community being too high strung, but the triathlon community...I could see that picking up!

Other childish things? I moo at cows, and "neh" at horses.

Yesterday I found myself mooing, quacking and all kinds of funny stuff.  Everyone in the group loved it...

Oh yeah, I was riding alone..

Keep it fun!

Lol... yup every time... And I ride through a lot of farm country.

My ride group also has a rule: no Swedish Chef impressions until at least mile 50.

Cant say I ever felt the need to "pewpew" when in my aerobars but I had never thought of them like that before. Now I might!
