My race schedule is starting to fill up fast. Looks like I'm going to add in a 3 race series.

So far it looks like this:

4/12 - Florida 70.3
5/9 - Cape Coral Sprint
7/11 - FD3 Oly #1
8/22 - FD3 Oly #2
9/13 - Captiva Sprint
9/26 - FD3 Oly #3
11/7 - IMFL

and on the final day of 11/8 = collapse until 2016......

Chris, the FD3 series is up by you in Fort Desoto. You should check it out. I did it last year and the course is awesome, well except for .75 miles of the run which is on the beach.

Race schedule is starting to take shape:

4/11 - HM - "Switchback Unplugged Half Marathon" i have signed up for but probably won't run it due to knee
6/27 - Toughman Tupper Lake Tinman HIM - if knee is still cranked...I'll do the aqua/bike - same distances for those without the run
7/26 - Colchester Sprint Tri - this was to be my first last year and it was cancelled for the first time ever due to thunderstorms
8/9 - Vermont Sun triathlon series - either the Oly or Sprint, not sure yet
9/6 - Lake George Triathlon Festival "Big George" HIM - *** this is my "A" race!!"***

I would love to do the New England Season Opener with Dave Q on 5/10 but seeking approval first as there is a soccer game that day....but it's Mother's Day and my birthday is the next day so I'm hoping to have some leverage here.........(we have soccer every weekend).....
I'd also like to find a final fall thing (plenty of HM around, but I love swimming too). Maybe a century ride.

I have officially signed up for the HM in April so challenge has been met and I believe I've already signed up for the Colchester Sprint tri - though I need to get on this if I haven't before it fills up!

Training this week has been slim due to my kids' February vacation. I got an hour on the trainer yesterday but with the hubby out of town I can't get swims or run/walks in too well. The sidewalks aren't plowed here so I don't dare take my kids with me. I almost hit someone walking a dog as I backed out of my driveway today!! (actually her dog - a pocket dog) I always stop, look both ways and have a rear camera - I live on a busy street, but never saw her dog over the snowbanks!! She cussed me out!! I'm sorry but I can't see a dog the size of my boot through a snowbank. Also, a friend pointed out to me that I drive a Honda Pilot - not small - if you're walking and see a large vehicle backing out of a driveway, wouldn't you stop prior to the driveway? I know she could see me over the snowbank. Argh. I love dogs - have a Golden and she' s awesome. I always watch for cars backing out of driveways and pull her leash in close so she's next to me. Sorry, vent over.

On a happy note - it was sunny and in the high 20's here today!!! Yea!!! What a beautiful day!!! I would have given my eye teeth to be on the mountain skiing!! :D

I've been on the fence about the FD3 series. Not sure I'll be able to make the middle race, but it's such a good deal if you sign up for the 3 race package. I love the Ft. DeSoto course, although I've only done sprints there. The beach run at FD is nothing compared to Siesta Key. Once our football schedule is set, I'll know if it will work.

Morning all!

Race schedules look awesome! So far I'm signed up for two and have three more planned, but I'm not signed up yet.

2/28--Rec-Your-Body Indoor Tri
4/26--Edwardsville, IL Super sprint (although all the distances except the run are the same as the sprint!)

Planned, but not signed up for
late June--something I can't remember the name of
mid July--Decatur, IL Sprint
early August--Wood River, IL Sprint (my first race last year, did it with my sister and hope to do it again with her)
mid September--Trail of Tears Tri (Cape Girardeau, MO)--this one nearly killed me last year, I want revenge!
late September--Litchfield, IL Oly--my first at this distance

Wow! Typing at all out makes it feel and look very real. I need to train!

Three more workouts in the books since my last post. Yesterday I did a 2100 yd swim and a 2mi run with the pup. Sandwiched in between was about 2 hours of yard work at my research facility--it doesn't count as a workout, but my shoulders sure are sore this morning! This morning I did another spin class (70/400). Today's was a hard one. Skipped my second workout this morning to let my legs rest for the race this weekend. Tomorrow I'll probably just do a short swim to relax and then race day on Saturday.

Happy Training All!!

For the weight loss challenge, I think I also may have gained some :-/ Can we do another one in March? haha

So I did sign up for a 5k, but I'm not sure it will count...you guys tell me... http://wipeoutrun.com/baltimore/

I am going to start searching today for a tri. I'm pretty sure my June and July are mostly free of wedding events, so that gives me somewhere to start.

Yeah! After losing no weight last week, I am down 3 lbs!!

9 weeks/14 lbs to hit my goal of 210 for my Phoenix trip!

Also surpassed my January run and bike totals for February! swim..close. Gotta up the swim a bit... :-)

Decided to get new pedals for my son's bike. Getting the double sided spd. At his age that is all he is allowed to use with mountain bike shoes.

Will post pics once we are set up.

Ok if Left Hand is having a 5k and brew fest and it's near you, and you're an active member of the Beer Drinker Appreciation Society, and you have to ask if it's worth giving up something you can do any other weekend until late June in CO.........

It's the second to last weekend on my season pass!!! I don't think you fully understand how nice it is to sit on a deck at the top of a ski mountain and have a beer in the sunshine in April! (Besides we're spoiled here- there will be another brewery 5k in a few weeks...) But I will consider it.

My town has both a bar/ bike shop http://eat.oskarblues.com/cyclhops/and now a bar/ running shoe store http://shoesbrews.com/

We have bike rides sponsored by breweries all summer long http://www.getevent.com/races/event/45717/4th-annual-GKnight-Ride-p...

well in the winter too...
http://oldmanwinterrally.com/

You could hit most of these in a long bike ride (and stay off road for most of it too as there's a path between Longmont and Boulder
http://www.fermentedlychallenged.com/p/boulder-area-brewery-map.htm...

I could walk to the lefthand 5k from my house... although probably a bike would be better to save my legs.

I'm definitely up for weight loss challenge in March! I feel like February has been a good fitness month (for me, at least!) but I've
had the post-quitting smoking munchies BAD! At night when I used to go outside and light up, I find myself wandering around the kitchen
snacking on everything in sight. It does seem to be getting better though as I continue to abstain, though. I'm hopeful that another
week or two and the antsy-ness will start to go away.

I've still managed to lose 6 lbs since the start of February though, and while I could be doing much better, I'll take any losses in that
department.

Today was a scheduled non-SBR day so I did some strength training and yoga at my house, as well as starting my plank challenge (well,
pre-starting). Sunday March 1 I'm starting a plank challenge for myself, although I'm not strong enough yet for the standard 1 month
one (http://30dayfitnesschallenges.com/30-day-plank-challenge/).

I'm starting out cutting it in half and my plan is something like:
Day 1: 10
Day 2: 10
Day 3: 15
Day 4:15
Day 5: 25
Day 6: 25
Day 7: Rest
Day 8: 30
Day 9: 30
Day 10: 45
Day 11: 45
Day 12: 60
Day 13: 60
Day 14: Rest
Day 15: 75
Day 16: 75
Day 17: 75
Day 18: 90
Day 19: 90
Day 20: 105
Day 21: Rest
Day 22: 105
Day 23: 120
Day 24: 120
Day 25: 135
Day 26: 135
Day 27: 135
Day 28: Rest
Day 29:150
Day 30: 200

I know there are various plank challenges here, but I think this one will be a good intro motivator for me. All about that goal setting!

Workout Checkin My heels are slowly getting better from that darn PF thanks to Icy Feet and LOTS of stretching. I haven't had a run in almost two weeks, but I have been doing yoga and strength training, plus a little zumba here and there with less jumping. The swimming I don't seem to have an accountability problem with...I'd love to sign up for Master's at the end of the summer.

So here's a random challenge I gave myself last night... Been struggling with lower leg pain all week so took a few nights to do exercises, heating/stretching/icing, and foam rolling. Last night was hard core rolling night and I needed something on TV while doing it. Rambo II was starting at the same time I was so that was an easy fix.

I decided that during each and every commercial break I would do 10 pushups immediately followed by 45 seconds in plank. I'll never look like Stallone did in those days but it was good motivation!

BTW the calves and shins are doing much better today and I'm off to the Expresso bike after work, going to try and find a 10 miler.

Yea - but can you imagine the motivation.... I always have a cold one waiting for me. At it's usually only 12 oz - I can only imagine the gravitational pull of a keg. It would be something like the death star!

Thanks everyone for the kind birthday wishes! I enjoy hanging out with you guys and I appreciate the support.

For my birthday, my son bought me the total immersion book and hopefully that helps me get going in the pool. I agree with the group that signing up for a race helps with the motivation and I plan on signing up for the season opener this week.

Here's a few thoughts on goal setting.... I really like the idea of putting up your goals somewhere where you can see them. But I think an even bigger pull is having accountability. When I lost nearly 100 pounds 3 years ago, there were a few major factors: 1) The decision to do so = I'm going to lose 100 pounds, 2) the desire to do so (I feel like crap and if I don't get healthy, I'm gonna die (I was pushing 270 and was having chest pains), 3 a way of keep track of my progress - BT for exercise and Loseit for calories,... But perhaps the biggest thing was accountability. Every month - I sent an email to a group of my friends and family telling them how I was doing. Each month - I knew was going to have to write the email - and so I pushed myself to do the work so I wouldn't fail the people who were supporting me. I think the accountability was perhaps the biggest piece.

I'm off to have a late birthday dinner with my wife (Last night we had scouts so we weren't able to celebrate my BD) - so we are going out tonight for a burger and a beer!

Also - I took my dog to the vet today and they think she has diabetes. Has anyone owned a pet who could give me some advice?

Check-in: 4/? Did 11 miles on the bike and 3.5 on the treadmill. I tried a new profile on the treadmill with big hills. I need to get my hills in.

My planned races

3/28 - Kutztown Fools Run 10 miler
4/26 - St. Luke's Half Marathon
6/7 - UBYMCA Average Joe Sprint Triathlon <--This is the one I need to sign up for to meet this week's challenge. I haven't met the challenge yet.
8/9 - Steelman Triathlon <-- This is the target race. I'm not signing up till I know whether I'm going Sprint or Oly.
8/22 - The Beerman 5K Run and beer tasting
9/26 - Celtic Classic Kilt Run 10K

I usually get pulled into a few 5Ks here and there too.

Shirt Update: I looked into pactimo and they needed the images submitted in Adobe Illustrator format and I don't have those magic powers. I've been bouncing around other sites looking for a site that allows me to do custom jerseys AND will allow everyone to order their own right to them. Along with that I need one that lets me do the shirt in the format we want. For instance I found one that worked great but the fonts STUNK (voler.com) so I passed on them. I'm still working on it, I'll let you know when I have something for everyone to look at.
