Four years ago my son, at 13, asked if he could do a triathlon with me.  I was thrilled.........and he had instantly found a passion that literally transformed his life.

He has worked so hard, and given up much of what passes for fun to most teenagers.  Almost from the day he ran his first race he began to look at what it might take to race the best kids of his age, and then what it might take to race the best competition in the sport.  Last weekend he earned the opportunity to apply for his Elite card by winning a Jr. Elite cup race. He's 17.

I thought I would share his smile of satisfaction in realizing part of his dream....it's priceless to me.  I am so proud of the work he puts in and the sacrifices he makes to continue to push forward to be the best he can be.

That is so awesome! I didn't know anything about Jr. Elite races, so I looked it up and there he was! That's so fast-- 1:01 for a 1/2 Oly! Congrats.

It was actually a battle of attrition up there.  The bouys  got blown by 25 mph winds and the swim was garmin'd at 950M, then the bike had a driving downpour for about 20 minutes of it, not to mention the wind.  He went :56.XX for that distance a month ago and finished 3rd.  This race was brutal on those kids.

OMG. Like I mentioned, I wasn't familiar with the series so had no idea that 1:01 could actually be a relatively slow time due to conditions. Amazing. Again, congrats to you both.

Absolutely fantastic! The fact that he did it in very tough conditions indicates that he is not only fast, but mentally tough. Congrats you, your son, and your whole family!

Awesome and congrats!

My daughter (14) goes to all my races and gets the bug to race after watching me (or the young men). The bug leaves her by the time we get home. I keep telling her she has the DNA because she has two parents that love to run.

Again, great job!

Congrats to both of you! I have been taking my 13 year old son with me running and we bike together a few times a week. I'm hoping that he gets the bug! It would be awesome to be able to train with him, my daughter and my GF.

Fantastic!  Indeed something to be proud of.

We sign both our kids up for at least one Trikids event each year (currently 5 and 7).  They love it and we're hoping that continues into their teenage years and beyond.
