Subject: Advantages to more expensive pedals?
Had a wreck (doing something stupid) and, in addition to taco-ing both wheels, managed to slightly bend the axle on one of my pedals so it's not spinning freely.
Right now I've got the entry level Shimano SDP-SL pedals (PD-R540). Is there any real advantage to stepping up to the more expensive pedals? Is there any difference between them other than weight?

I asked my local tri bike shop's pro fitter the same question when I pulled out a new set of 105's i had picked up on Amazon for like $70 and he said those were perfect. He's been in the business for over 30 years. No need to spend the extra just to save a few grams. I took his advise. The 105's are working great. Hope this helps.

A few grams, as said.

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.
