What the....? No Kona tracking thread??? It's not that late in the US, is it? I missed the swim and bike overnight, riding trainer now and watching. Times it right so I will finish my ride around when the pro women finish. What happened to Rinny? DNS?

DNF- Something about a sore back at the beg. of the bike... I wonder if it has something to do with the wreck she was in a few days ago?

Personally, I find Ironman kind of.....meh.  I watched a few hours today while I was doing some work.  Seemed like quite a few mechanical problems during the time I was watching.

Rinny was getting crushed so around mile 50 she pulled out with the back pain. Chrissie certainly the tougher of the two.

What a great looking day for racing..

One thing has never changed for me in the 12 years i've been racing tri - that watching Kona is totally inspirational.

Snnoooozzzz......No drama this year. Shoulda taken the MTB out for a dose of rice paddy and fish pond single track instead! Plus I started too early so riding extra--will run once Ryf finishes.

ETA Not bad...just ten minutes extra. Hope Joyce holds on for second.....she is a class act and always consistent. Heading out to run. Will check back in for the last hour or so. My favorite is actually the last finishers--they're people who don't really have the bodies for it and have had a bad day besides (usually) but they are out there giving it their all anyway--in my mind that's even more inspirational.

there was drama - Tim Donn dropped his gps in the toilet so his parents didn't know if he had passed out in the port-a-john, saw some age grouper take another out on the bike, and one woman missed the swim cut off by 3 seconds

There's the NBC show, but I'll be out of the US then they usually block it on Youtube so I don't get to see it till months after the fact. Guess I missed all the drama.

Watching the live feed of the Kona finish line for over 2 hours. It is so inspiring.

I've been thinking, I'm going to call this an event rather than a race. I will not be competing, I will be hanging with 2000 other like-minded people. Together, we will enjoy a refreshing dip in the morning, a bicycle tour of NY state in the afternoon and conclude the day with an easy jog. By coincidence, the day will span 17 hours and cover 140.6 miles.

Rinny's wreck was 2 days prior, Chrissies, was a few weeks. Either way its irrelevant to who is tougher. Using your logic, I would say Rinny is smarter because she thinks long term and doesn't destroy her body in a short time frame like Chrissie forcing her into retirement.

Wondering if Daniela Ryf will follow in Chrissie's footsteps in that regard? There was something on Bob Babbit's show about her doing some race to win a million dollars next month? Can't imagine. I would probably not even be out of bed or maybe off the beach by then. I guess she is young, but still.....yikes. That girl has raced A LOT this year.

X2. Frankly, drawing conclusions about who is "tougher" from the two situations you're referencing is ridiculous.

Sh.....My Kona feed died with fifteen minutes to go before 17 hours. All I care about---did Lew Hollander (only guy in 85-89 AG) finish?? He's a local boy (from Bend, not too far away from my hometown). The tracker had his split at 21.9 miles and it looked very doable for him, but that stupid thing was an epic fail for the other athlete I was tracking--it missed her predicted time by 30 minutes. Thought maybe she walked/crawled due to some epic blowup, that but same results for about six other people in the same AG, so I think the tracker was messed up. They couldn't have all taken 30 minutes to go the last 0.9 miles....Could they???

Sorry I can't answer, but I did have problems using wifi but once I switched to my ethernet it streamed fine. I checked in and out throughout the day and watched the first 3 cross then checked back just before midnight.

After a lot of puzzling over the tracker, it appears he DNF'd late in the run.....In other words, couldn't make one of the final time cutoffs after 21 miles. May be the end of a long and inspiring career. (He's said he'll give up IM when he can't finish in 17 hours.) But it sounds like he did qualify, if he was in Kona at all, so he did do it somewhere.

I find it hard to question the toughness of any Ironman competitor, it's the ultimate in splitting hairs.

ITU needs to have be running the Elite/Pro race. The KPR system is a joke. Slots should be doled out similar to WTS and National Feds pick the best who are ready to race.
