Subject: Piriformis pain and Ironman coming up in 3 weeks - help Hi everyone!
My training for IMAZ on 11.15.15 has been going so well. Getting in all my SBR and feeling great. Then starting a couple weeks ago things started falling apart. I had a hamstring issue (I think stemming from dehydration ) so I had to back off the run for a few days. Then I Tweaked my ankle on the bike and it was sore for a few days so I didn't run. On Monday of this week I went out for a Z2/Farklek run and feeling fine. Then 50 min into it I felt a twinge in my right leg/hip and it started tightening up. I was able to make it home but now it's so tight and I'm pretty sure its the Piriformis muscle.
Really tight and can feel it radiating down my leg. I rested it for a few days, then tried to go out this morning to test it out. Nope, it did NOT like running and is now even tighter. I'm SO FRUSTRATED!
I know this board is no substitute for medical advice. I've made an appt with my doctor for next Tuesday (the soonest he could see me ) and have a good sports massage scheduled for this Monday.
I've been rolling, stretching, icing the last few days and just praying I can get through my 115 mile ride tomorrow.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, what worked, if you were able to resume training soon. I'm right at the beginning of taper so that's good at least, but I'm so worried I won't make it to the start line or be able to complete the run. I get a little freaked when I can't maintain consistent running so I'm probably hyper worried at this point!
I've heard of several people who had issues and couldn't train for X amount of weeks leading up to IM and they ended up having a PR. I'm just hoping the extra rest will do me some good and heal things up. Not like I was a high milage runner or pushing any extremes (other than normal IM training - lol ) Thanks for any advice! |
