Thought this was pretty funny! Mainly because there is so much truth to this.

I've done a half, and wear the shirt at every opportunity.

That's great!

We just had a big (around here) marathon, the Detroit Free Press. A bunch of friends (and I, I'll shamefully admit), spammed our social media feeds for months leading up to the race...every training run, every 5k/10k/half that we did, every single injury or "responsible" meal got shared with the masses.

On race day, my entire FB feed was nothing but updates from runners and spectators, pictures of things as mundane as where the car was parked, the starting clock showing 40 minutes until the start, and random selfies along the path.

It's madness, lol, but what the hell, hard work earns a little bragging, right?!?

Maybe I should be on Youtube.....More than 20 years ago, I ran an ultra (about 60K, DIY) and I don't think I ever did tell anyone. I just wanted to see if I could run from where I was living then (in Taiwan) to the ocean. I did, with several stops for fruit and sweet potatoes at roadside stalls, and maybe even a short nap in the middle. Okay, wait, I'm telling everyone now!

I rarely mention my racing to anyone unless they ask first.

I figure if I want to talk about my racing & training then I'll go someplace with like-mined folks like here at  BT, or the fellow members of my local triathlon, track or masters swim clubs.

My reticence to talk about stuff is partly due to my personality &  modesty, but also in large part to the skepticism I've gotten from others at times.  I don't have a classic endurance athlete's physique and I've had folks (including some family members) actually question whether or not I actually did some of my races.

I get tired of hearing stuff like, "Did you actually finish?" or "You must have done the relay, not the whole race", so I just avoid having the conversation.

I get tired of explaining it.

My wife ran her first 10K a couple weeks ago. We both ran a 5K a few weeks before (she RACED both of them). Last night she says...."The 10K was much easier than the 5K, yet my friends think the 10K is a bigger deal".

Come on in, the water's fine! How do you explain to someone that a sprint tri is the DEVIL?

I thought the video was hilarious! Because it's true. Well, i talk about it less than i used to because i've done it and there's less excitement for me. But when i was new i was so darn excited. Good news is that I rarely used social media then (and it was still new) so i didn't broadcast it - but pretty much everyone i knew got to hear about it. :S

Hilarious video!

As for the theme/message, 90% of people in my world know what race I'm training for or have just completed. Mainly because it's a natural conversation piece - what are your weekend plans, what did you do this weekend, (why are you on crutches ), etc. I'm not going to lie, so I usually say "I went on a long run" or "I had a fun bike ride" and that naturally leads to questions about what I'm training for or what not. I don't think it's a bad thing, it's just like how I ask my co-workers how their kids b-day party was or how their vacation went. Conversation and getting to know people is very natural

I lisented to a guy go on and on about the triathlon he was training for one day after we got out of the pool.  When he asked me what I was training for I told him I was training to swim the English Channel with some guys I went to Oxford with.  He told me he thought that was amazing.

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.
