Subject: RE: Rotator cuff injury anyone? Originally posted by TriCDA
I fell badly during a HM mountain race on Saturday. Saw a specialist today who thinks my shoulder might have a rotator cuff injury. Going in for images tomorrow but wondering if any of you have experience with an injury like this and what helped you?
Injured my right shoulder about 15 yr/ago. I elected to do PT three times/week for about 10 months rather than surgery. Long road but worked pretty well for me. I remember as a teacher not being able to any longer write on a white board, but needing to use an overhead from that point on. Was no longer able to throw a baseball or football any distance without pain that could last for days. If I slept wrong, I woke up in pain. It hasn't really gotten in my way much since that roughly year of rehab. Hasn't gotten in the way of swimming for instance. I no longer even think about trying to do something with my arm too high or otherwise wrong position.
There are a nearly infinite number of ways a shoulder joint can be damaged and everyone's structure and issues are different. My advice would be to read up as much as possible and go slow if surgery is suggested. It may well be possible to recover nearly fully with good PT and a few modification of how you use your arm/shoulder. Best of luck! |
