Let's say Kansas City decided to pursue an Ironman (140.6). What would be the course?

I don't think a Lawrence KS type venue would work, this would need to capture the charm that is Kansas City (KS or MO) itself.

Could it be done, and what would it look like?

One of the things I loved about Ironman Louisville was the run downtown with the finish on Fourth Street Live where the nightlife was. I think an Ironman in Kansas City would be awesome with a run that finished in the Power and Light district.

Agreed, 100%. This is what got me thinking about this.

Not that IM is/would consider KC as a destination but I have been wondering about this. Louisville has a very nice trail system downtown on the riverfront, however none of that is really used for IM.

My thinking was something that starts are Berkley Riverfront Park. I've not spent much time down there recently, and definitely have never looked at the river with a swim in mind, so I don't know if that is a viable swim area or not. But starting the swim at riverfront park, with T1 there.

The real trick would be getting a bike course out of the RiverMarket area. I think it would need to go West through KCK and head out toward Tongonoxie, probably turning around Perry Lake. Keeping a single transition, the run would head out through downtown KC, heading South similar to the KC Marathon run course, with a finish in/around Power and Light.

I don't know how viable that would be. It would have to go through 2 states, have road closures/limitations through 2 downtowns and several smaller cities. I think it would be cool if there was ever an opportunity. Timing would also be an issue.

I'd guess at two loops of current 70.3 course if they're putting on a 140.6 event.

I think I would be in. Not sure I want two laps of 70.3 course. I definitely don't want a full in early June. Too much winter training for me. Early September would be my vote

Most of those thinking about tackling a long swim instinctively feel it’s necessary to Do much to build endurance - more yards, harder laps. But a focus on Receiving is ideal for long distances.

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?
