Champion 5529 Nashville, TN | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. That really sucks! I have often pondered what I would do if faced with that issue. Best of luck finding it....I would hope that it is specialized enough to find it if it resurfaces on the market. I would love for you to get the bike back and I would pay to see the expression of a thief when they try to ride off on a bike with clipless pedals and powercranks. |

The Original 7834 Raleigh/Durham | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. Oh my gosh- I'm so sorry to hear this. It's weird because we have such a special bond with our bikes, even though it's just a bike they mean a lot to us. I hope it all works out and you can get your bike back (in the condition it was left in) or get another one, that's even better. I didn't read all the other posts above, but I was always told that your bike is covered under your renter's/homeowner's insurance so hopefully that's true. Again, I'm sorry to hear about anyone getting their bike stolen. I guess the bright side is that at least your fancy tri bike didn't get stolen right before IM FL. But still, it sucks and I hope you catch the person who stole it! |

Bill Here is a picture of the bike and the cranks: PowerCranks: Not holding out much hope. He's hoping more for a way to claim it on insurance, as finding stolen bikes are rare. |

Champion 7821 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. They had to have equipment with them to cut the lock and break the bike rack, and the bike had clipless pedals and powercranks, which would have made it hard to ride. So maybe the thieves were in a van/truck cruising around the lot looking for bikes to steal. And maybe they didn't take the other bike simply because they didn't have time to load it into the vehicle before someone happened upon them. And what the **** kind of parking garage doesn't have security cameras? Those places are crook magnets! Maybe you could try putting up a "found--decanters and wine glasses" poster and see if anyone responds to it? Edited by jmk-brooklyn 2006-11-10 8:27 AM |

Elite 2999 Hattiesburg, Mississippi | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. That really sucks. Maybe they will end up leaving it somewhere and some nice person will report it to the police. Can't image why someone would steal a bike with power cranks and clipless pedals unless you know there value or knew how to ride it. Sorry to hear about it Aaron. |

Elite 2515 Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. Wow, that really f__king sucks! Definitely talk to your insurance agent(s) and find out what kind of coverage there is and what impact it may have. Insurance laws differ from state to state. Here's hoping the thieves don't really know what the heck to do with such a fancy bike with weird cranks and just ditch it and that a good person finds it and calls the cops. |

Pro 4292 Evanston, | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. 1. I agree that they probably tossed the bike in a truck, SUV, or van. No way could someone who doesn't know a tri bike from their own anoos ride Aaron's bike, with the cranks, even halfway down the block without creating a sideshow. 2. Comet, these people have no idea who they just crossed in you. You are one tough cookie, smart, and determined. E-Bay, pawn shops, etc. all excellent ideas. I am going to specifically PRAY right now that this incident leads to the thieves getting CAUGHT and put out of business. 3. At the same time, remember it's "stuff." Stuff is temporary, and YOU are both okay. Don't forget to hold your heads high and embrace with gratitude the spectacular lives you are still able to lead. Vent about them messing with your "stuff," but don't let them mess with your heads for too long. Much Love to you both, and Peace. |

Master 1888 Winder, GA | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. Man, that's a total bummer! If someone took my bike I know I'd cry. They probably didn't take the tri bike because they were a) stupid and didn't know what it was worth or b) they knew what it was but didn't take it because they knew it would stick out like a sore thumb. I'm leaning towards the first one, nobody said thieves were smart. Hopefully you'll be able to work something out with your insurance. |

molto veloce mama 9311 | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. aaron...i'm SO SO SO sorry. major bummer. that is the worst feeling. i had my old mtb stolen. it also didn't make sense. i'd painted it like a bontrager and had clipless pedals on it...so it prolly looked like a nicer bike to someone who didn't really know what they were looking at (under the pretty paint job that had taken me 2 weeks, was an old trek antelope 820). i thought all my insides had disappeared when i saw it was gone. it was the first bike i had really LOVED. hope your insides get right, and that you have insurance that will cover some or all of the replacement cost. my renters insurance covered most of the cost to 'replace' my stolen baby. i went to several shops to get estimates and they were more than generous with estimating replacement costs...so after the deductable, i was still able to get a pretty nice bike to replace it (a past season fisher hybrid...my old commuter, and now burley puller and grocery getter, which now probably has more miles on it than any bike i've ever owned). |

I thought about that as well last night, and trying to cheer him up (he is SO upset, I feel bad for him)..anyway... I said that at least we weren't walking to the car and someone didn't hold us up and rob us for our wallets and the bikes and that could have been the nice stuff they did... We're making calls. Hopefully in a couple of weeks he'll have a replacement. |

If they didn't take your bike, they clearly don't know bikes, and are likely to take the bike to a bike shop to get "those weird cranks" replaced. If/when they do, and the bike shop knows to be on the lookout, you may well both catch the person, and get the bike back.

Extreme Veteran 452 Ottawa, Ontario | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. Sorry to hear about the bike. That is a real drag. Make sure you get the word out everywhere you can (this thread is a really good start). We had a situation in Ottawa recently where a bike was advertised stolen on our local tri mailing list (TriRudy.com) and a list member spotted the bike in a pawn shop in a town about an hour and a half from here. A happy ending. The power cranks on your bike make it fairly unique and easy to spot. Wishing you good luck. D |

Mesa | Subject: RE: My road bike was stolen. Sucks that your bike got stolen. I would be sick to my stomach for weeks and weeks. Years ago I actually had a bike stolen. Left it on my porch as I ran inside and when I came out a minute or two later it was gone. Then about a week later my bike was left back on my porch. I guess the guy just needed to get somewhere quick or felt remorse. |
