Pre-race routine:

Drove to race with Melanie.
Event warmup:

Ran 2 miles easy - out to the 2 mile mark and back running the last mile of the race. I did 2 quick bursts right before the start

Comments:

Started out quick, not hard, not fast, just quick. I didn't feel smooth at all - kind of 'clumpy' - just not smooth is the best way to explain it. Went through mile 1 around 6:02 - asked another runner near me - turns out later he is a BT member - Mike Q - I trailed Mike for the rest of the race - lead woman was up ahead, but couldn't reel her in. Went through 2 miles at 12:08 and decided then I would go under 19 and maybe even 18:50 if I could keep the pace up. Mile 2-3 has more turns than any other part of the course - so its slows you a little. I hit mile 3 at 18:16 so good pacing on the day and there were a bunch of us (3 or 4) closing in on the finish line at once - I dug deep but I can tell my legs are still glycogen depleted from the 2.5 hour run on Tuesday. Even yesterday during the 4x100m I did, I had to work hard and I wasn't moving very quickly - so I just pushed hard, but I stayed where I was - and finshed behind the pack. Mojo was solid, pacing was excellent. I think Amy (timer) was a little slow on the trigger - I never saw 18:48 on the clock - but she had me for 18:50 - so I am sure I was under that - oh well - 3 secs don't matter but if you work hard, you should get your actual time right? ;-)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - stretch the groin more - still tender and stiff from Tuesday's run.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran 12 minutes with Mel around the block - Mel ran 21:xx and won the 35-30 F. I keep telling her she should actually train, she might just see how good she can be. ;-)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I went as hard as I could the entire time.

nice job!
i'm reading all the 5K rr's i can b/c i have my first stand alone 5k tomorrow morning... i'm mostly concerned w/what people do to warm up, looks like you did alot!

Great race Mike, and thanks for pushing me. It always helps to have someone at your same level to keep you on track.

I'm glad you thought the timer was a bit slow on the trigger because I thought I was a little faster than what she got me down as. Oh well.
