My mom bought me nursing PJ's for the hosiptal.  I'm so glad I tried those before I ever bought any nursing clothes - I hated them!  The holes weren't where I needed them and I felt like I showed more trying to get the slits open than if I just lifted a corner of my shirt.

well, and when they get to be nursing toddlers, they could care less what you're wearing...they'll just dive in and get them out themselves.

My wife used a blanket in public to cover her breast feeding our son (obviously it was her choice).  If she ever goes without a blanket and someone tells us they are offended I'll be ready with something like, "That make two of us who are offended.  Now I'm offended that you are offended." Or perhaps, "You say that like you think I'm going to care."  (Will allow my wife her own input in her own graceful and tactful way)

I don't mind the breasts being out...I just don't like seeing children in public...just kidding...I am just glad that I will never have to deal with this problem at all...the boobs I find offensive are my own...damn man boobs...

Hey, I guess I didn't realize how difficult it was to put a blanket over the child. Sorry.

But she shouldn't have to... period.  WHY does the act of breastfeeding offend people?

Peace,

Brian

I think it is not necessarily offensive to some people, but potentially embarrasing to some.  while we do live in the porn society, there are several people who are uncomfortable with the suggestion of nudity, regardless of the reason.

shadowfax - 2006-11-21 4:09 PM  but my brother-in-law actually did not let my sister do certain things (shopping/working out) if she was going to miss an actual feeding

This blows me away.  Novel concept that a man should feel the right to have, much less try to enforce an opinion on the subject.  If it worked for them, so be it.  It never dawned on me that I could/should have a thought about it.  We've had mixed experiences, mostly successful breastfeeding with our three but whether it was bottle or breast it was always completely up to her, when, where, how, whatever.  When she wanted to breast feed in public, which was not often but did happen, I only felt it was my job to go into protective mode, watch for pervs or anti-breastfeeders and be prepared to kick a$$.

haha..this is exactly how I feel. But, I think my wife would probably beat me to them. I might have to pry her off their head.

Has anyone noticed this aspect of the story? Isn't that a bit old to still be breastfeeding?

How is Vermont law relevant? Once the plane is airborne it could be anywhere. Is there some national law that addresses this? If women can breastfeed in public because breasts are not sexual organs, then can they go around topless at other times? Personally, I don't care one way or the other, but I can see how both sides feel.

There is no set time to stop breast feeding.  I know women who breast fed their kids past four years old...

Peace,

Brian

Hmmm......I would say that if your kid is, say, able to go on dates, you MIGHT want to stop breastfeeding before that. Or barring that, probably before he/she gets married.

Hah - this made me laugh too - it's like he's trying to start a whole new debate.  I can't even answer this one - my son is 20 months and still going strong.  I'm pretty sure he'll quit before college, he'd be embarassed to have me in bed in his dorm room.

without reading ALL the posts....

What is the big deal?  People are acting like the big, bad, evil corperation (Delta) is imposing it's will on innocent, hapless mothers.  Is this what happens when the generation that grew up fighting the man finally grows up and gets lawyers?  I'm sorry, but I Just don't get it.

For one, it was ONE case.  I SINGLE flight attendant had an issue and talked a ticket agent into taking the people off the plane.  ONE PERSON.  Delta even said it's not in their policy to do this.  Delta as a corperation is clean.  They appologized and I'm sure the family will get something out of it.  Done deal.  It's over.  You won, you can sit down now.

Why do people have to jump up and start screaming that (as a whole) they have been wronged when a single stupid person makes a mistake? It was one woman.  It's not like hundreds of women were wronged, or it was an entire plane of breast feeding nuns.  Was it just because it happened to a woman?  I mean if I'm cut off on the highway by a woman and then start commenting about women drivers, everybody gets in a huff about me stereotyping.  That is unless it was a woman in an SUV.  Since SUV's have a bad rap now anyway, then that would make it okay, but if it was a woman in a Prius, fists would fly.

Why are we at the point where individual people can't make mistakes without litigation being thrown around at them, the company they work for and the manufacture of their SUV?  Yes, the attendant was wrong in her actions.  Why does this demand a mass investigation by the "Civil Rights League"?  Shouldn't they be off spreading their good will in places that actually need it?

anyway, my 2 cents

It seems like situations like this get inflamed because its a woman and her child.  Never get between a mama and baby of any species, right?  We aren't so well evolved that that old axiom doesn't apply, I think.

LOL...but seriously a question.  Is there a way to induce lactation such that nuns (presumably that haven't just given birth) could breast feed?
