There is no set time to stop breast feeding.  I know women who breast fed their kids past four years old...

ASA22 - 2006-11-22 9:58 AM 4? Why? My wife didn't breast feed so I have no idea about the logistices. But 4 seems old to me. Especially in the U.S. or some other developed country. Shouldn't a child be eating solid foods by age 4? Anyway, obviously the "regulars" are itching for an issue on cup of joe today, is everyone bored and ready to leave work....? 5 pages on "The Great Breast Feeding Controversy" I think some people are looking for an arguement.

Okay, just did a google picture search for Milkshakes (for future distraction posts) and this picture showed up.  Thought it was funny that it got lumped in with a milkshake post……

What is the big deal?  People are acting like the big, bad, evil corperation (Delta) is imposing it's will on innocent, hapless mothers.  Is this what happens when the generation that grew up fighting the man finally grows up and gets lawyers?  I'm sorry, but I Just don't get it.

For one, it was ONE case.  I SINGLE flight attendant had an issue and talked a ticket agent into taking the people off the plane.  ONE PERSON.  Delta even said it's not in their policy to do this.  Delta as a corperation is clean.  They appologized and I'm sure the family will get something out of it.  Done deal.  It's over.  You won, you can sit down now.

Why do people have to jump up and start screaming that (as a whole) they have been wronged when a single stupid person makes a mistake? It was one woman.  It's not like hundreds of women were wronged, or it was an entire plane of breast feeding nuns.  Was it just because it happened to a woman?  I mean if I'm cut off on the highway by a woman and then start commenting about women drivers, everybody gets in a huff about me stereotyping.  That is unless it was a woman in an SUV.  Since SUV's have a bad rap now anyway, then that would make it okay, but if it was a woman in a Prius, fists would fly.

Why are we at the point where individual people can't make mistakes without litigation being thrown around at them, the company they work for and the manufacture of their SUV?  Yes, the attendant was wrong in her actions.  Why does this demand a mass investigation by the "Civil Rights League"?  Shouldn't they be off spreading their good will in places that actually need it?

I haven't read all 5 pages of this thread so maybe this has already been noted but here are a few thoughts:

1. What if a woman is an exhibitionist? Does having a baby give her the right to exhibit her breasts to the public?

I'm sure exhibitionists aren't going to use their hungry children to get their thrills.

2. It has been my experience that woman who are nursing are much less inhibited about their breasts when they are nursing than at any other time. Why is that?

Um, maybye because that's the one time they are actually needed and not seen as sexual objects??

3. Women's breasts are the largest they are ever gonna be while they are lactating - see item #1. See also #2

Is there a question here?

4. Was the baby actually nursing or was she just making herself available in the event the child (2 yo) got thirsty?

I am sure she just felt like letting her left boob hang out to get some air in case the baby decided it needed a sip. 

5. Were other passengers staring or coming by to stuff dollar bills in her pants?

That depends if Robit was on the plane. (hah - now he can slap me in Disney!)

NOPE.  Being in public give her the right to be arrested.  Pity about that.

PERHAPS this applies more to women who are normally smaller of chest.  They are larger and want to flaunt it a bit while they can.

YUP...and I know someone who will be lactating next July AND will be standing up in a wedding and she plans on showing them off...tastefully as she can for a wedding.

Women who nurse just don't walk around with their breast hanging out so the child can pull from the tap when they want to?

Well of course they are eating solid food as well... My 6 month old just started eating cereals and veggies, but he still breast feeds.  There are still advantages to breastfeeding, like immuniological benefits, bonding between mother and child, neurological development, etc.  No reason to stop. 

 Our oldest son weaned himself at about 2.  He didn't need it anymore, but my wife would have kept going if he had wanted.
