Hey all

I am back from my mental coma. We had 2 days fo 50 degree weather and I think that it helped. Hope things are well with all and hope to be better at getting off my red bike.

Did you get a new red bike or, have you been reading some of the posts in "My Cup of Joe"?

Ben...as group leader you are supposed to answer MarkMark's question.  I know he has been sitting at his computer for a week now anxiously waiting your reply.

Mark - sorry bout the delay.  Although I think if I were the kid in the back of the classroom cracking jokes, StandsWithFist might be the girl in the front row ratting me out

Here's a pic of the aerobars and bar end shifters that came on my tri bike. (I don't have a road bike.)  If you've got a road bike, you can get some clip on aero bars that should work out pretty well.

Hey everyone----
I have been really quiet on here and in my training log but it is purly due to lack of time to log on. I have been training a ton latly.

I finished my first tri last friday. It was the Simply Stu Worldwide Triathlon. You basically run the tri on your own like a brick and then record thing back to simply stu's website. I ran a race that I was comfortable with. I went great. I was totally pumped up afterwards. I really should have done a longer tri but I also had talked my wife into doing a 5k race the next day and so I measured that in the situation and went a little shorter distance when I was planning.

Well my race report is out there and I had a great time....

I am still thinking about doing the Y-not-tri here on the 7th. It is your standard sprint other then you swim on Friday morning and bike and run on Saturday morning. (swim is in the YMCA's pool). I had such a HIGH from finishing the first one I think I created a mild additction....

I hope all is good for everyone else.

HEY is there anyone that is going to be up at or racing in CDA Ironman???

OK thanks Ben,

I've been looking at the Profile bars on Ebay and reading a few reports etc, what's the advantage /disadvantage of 2 piece bar versus the loopy looking one?  Aaaannnd I will do the race report soon with happy snaps!  (honest

OK after much mucking around,, glad the sprint didn't take this long I have done the race details. Unfortunately the battery went flat on the camera as well as the bike compute but,,, you get the general idea that I did it! OK back to the training again Chow for now!

Hey Mark - I just did a quick search of the free training plans and found 10 Oly training plans you might find useful.

During your off season, I'd suggest picking a couple of weaknesses to work on. For example, my swim form is pretty weak and I've got virtually no muscle, so this winter I'll be looking for some swim coaching and starting a weight training program. And now that I think about it, BT has recently put out some off-season plans too, so you might check those out. While my idea of focusing on a couple weaknesses in the off season seems to make sense, it's not very scientific, so BT's off season plans may be a better route.

Last but not least - pick up a copy of Joe Friel's Triathlete Training Bible. It's some heady material to read straight through, but it's got great information!!! Good stuff to read in the off season.

Edit: I don't think I even came close to answering your question   The "right training" plan is really up to you.  Some of them focus more on a specific discipline while others are more balanced.  Since this will be your first Oly - you might pick one of the first two plans.  They're specifically made for someone doing their first Olympic distance race.  The total volume of training is a bit lower on those plans, so you shouldn't over train yourself.

Greetrings Ben,

thanks for that I'll start working through those plans and see what's good and I'll definitely get hold of the book you mention.  I reckon I'll be on the bike and swim during winter, even if it means doing the lovely exercise bike,,,,,,,  all in the name of progress!  ST Croix looks like a pretty good run, Good Luck!!  not that you'll need it

On On!!
