Well the group is working for me already. I hate running and bought a treadmill 3 months ago to take away any excuses about not being able to get a run in - shockingly enough it sat in it's box until yesterday. After joining the group I realised I now had nowhere to hide and  had better get the thing set up. An hour later I christened it with a 3-mile run. Not a long way for the likes of Spokes but for those of you who know rugby, you will know that being a fullback running any distance over 40 yards, or even thinking of breaking a sweat, is generally frowned upon.

Thank you guys (and girl) for getting me going - let's keep it up

 Luke

Is eye gouging allowed?

Pretty much anything is allowed so long as you're not spotted by the referee or the linesmen.

Waheeey, congratulations.

He's right though sweating for a full back is very bad, unless they're using that waterproof hair gel their hairstyle drops out and they start to preen in a mirror.

I think we have a great mix here within the group. I am already encouraged by everyone else, and somebody to share my experiences with. Best of Luck everyone with early training.

Quick question - Glenn's doing his first tri May 19th in Eton, UK. What does anyone else have planned? Not that anyone here would then hold you to it of course - just wondering.

I'm doing Eton as well but I'm doing it on May 20th - I was thinking of going down there on the Saturday to watch. My first will be the week before in Tonbridge, Kent.

My first Oly is Windsor although I may have missed out if it was fully before my application got in - if that's the case I'm going to do Fritton Lake (Somerset 24th June) and/or Bournemouth (8th July).

A friend of mine who used to compete in Triathlons advised me to do Eton as a first, he also said Saturdays are usually less busy than Sundays.

I wanted to make sure I got accepted into the race.

I'll look for you on the day, I'll probably be going on Sunday too so that I can watch.

My first tri of the season will be May 6th.  The Merrill Lynch Race for Sight.  This is the tri that started it all for me last year.  I finished in 2:02:36 last year.  I hope to take 30 minutes off my time this year.  10 min swim, 50 min bike and 30 min run.  That means I need to seriously get to the Gym and spend some quality time in the pool and really learn to love my bike.  I have Aero bars now, but need some better wheels and and a 12/25 rear cassette with maybe a compact crank to replace the 52/42.  I'm not at one with the bike enough to spin that with the few killer hills they will throw at us again.

I hate running when it is so cold your lungs burn.  The first 5K this weekend was like that but by the time I got to the turn around I had my own little warm climate following me around and made the second 5K a little more enjoyable(enjoyable as running can be).

Does spin class count as bike training? Just joined a spin class. In addition, which training program do you recommend? I have a tri / sprint in August.

I log EVERYTHING.

Makes me feel better.

I chose a Couch-to-Sprint training plan because the training it laid out looked reasonable and I felt I could accomplish it, I have planned a sprint at the end of it, I shall then be following a Sprint-to-Olympic bridging plan.

I guess it's a case of decide what you want to do and then choose the plan that best suits your goals.

At the top of the website page there is a banner, under the Beginner Tirathlete logo is the entry to the control panel, Click on the "Control Panel" link, scroll to the bottom of the page and the avatar upload is the left hand file upload set, it's called "Upload Profile Image".

Hope that Helps.
