Usual stuff, though trying to add a bit extra each session to help me toward S-B-R Challenge goals.

One cool thing I've got planned for Wed AM is a personal swim coaching session with Lisa Marshall (http://thesportfactory.com/site/coaches/lisamarshall.shtml).  One of her sons is in school with my daughter, so we know each other already and this should help accomodate quick establishment of rapport on the coaching side of things.  Stay tuned for a report in Wed.'s log.

This week is a 'recovery' week which I really don't need since I changed things around for the 10k's I planned on in Feb/early March.  So I'll pick up the swim and bike this week and back off as planned on the runs.  Need to as last week I was approx +0:10 on the run, -0:35 for the bike and -1:00 for the swim so I have some catching up to do! Off to a good start today anyway, actually biked & swam today!

Lisa Marshall sounds pretty cool. I was just talking to a neighbor this weekend that took some swim lessons from Jennifer Lesser. She won the Tri the Park series last year. I'm thinking about taking some lessons also. I think I might wait and see how the next few weeks of series 3x/week swim training go.

Definitely do it Jonathan!

There was an article in the local paper here where on Monday nights for 1 hour they are offering swim lessons for the triathlete at the Community College pool.  I too want to get more swim base before I do it and then attend a few of those lessons before the Sprints start in the summer.

Hey all!
So how's it all going?  I'm ramping up my training big time this & next week to get into some over-reaching training as this is my last build period before the Tri-America race.

I finally did some tri-bike riding on Sat and today.  I've been avoiding the tri-bike because I've been having some serious numbness issues riding it in the aero position.  So Sat I put on my Trek MTB seat which has a cutout similar to a Terry seat.  Even though it's made for riding in an upright position it was a big improvement over the stock Felt seat and could stay in the aero position a very long time.  Still had slight pressure when I rotated my hips/pelvis fully forward but again the seat wasn't made for riding like that, I was just glad that this issue could be resolved.

So Saturday I stopped by the LBS and ordered my daughters new 20" bike for her birthday.  While there I snagged the demo ISM Adamo Racing Saddle to see how it feels and rides as I read a couple of good reviews about it here on BT and on ST.  I put it on and went for a ride today, I'm not over acting here, I LOVE THIS SEAT!  I felt like I had it set a little too forward but I stayed with it as I forgot to bring my tools with me.  Just like the picture for the sit-diagram, the boys hang over the front and there is absolutely no pressure at all to deal with. I was able to keep my hip/pelvis rotated forward like it should be and really was really comfortable for the 1st time on the tri-bike.  I thought maybe the wide nose would be an issue but it was fine.  I should have done this a long time ago, I guess I'll be ordering a yellow one real soon to match the yellow accents on the F22!!

Wow...not sure how I missed your note, Jonathan.  Jennifer's a stud too - she's on Reality Bikes' tri team and often did the Wed. night ride this past winter.  I believe Mila (milaminute) recently took a lesson with Jennifer.  And re: Lisa, yes, she's very good.  Either way, you can't go wrong.

Where did you buy it, cause it's getting close and I'm still having problems with comfort in aero?

Steve,
One of our LBS sells them and are cheaper than the $149.95 MSRP on the website.  I'm sure one of the Atl are LBS carry it, call around and if they do ask them if they have a demo seat to try.

BTW, the website says this LBS in Atl has them:

Hey guys!
So how's it all going?  This is a big week for the Red Rockets you know

Any way, I had an awesome run last night, 10.9 miles of pure joy!  This was my longest run since the HIM in Nov and man what a difference. Mostly because of the ideal temps right now, at least 20F diff in the heat index!  I had to work on keeping it slow at the start and it paid off as I was the energizer bunny with my two gels and four 7oz Fuel Belt bottles full of water.  I can honestly say that the Hammer Gel Tropical favor is about the worst tasting gel I've ever had.  After I finish up with the two Power gels I'm sticking with e-gels, no more experimenting with gels.

So for the March challange and training plan, I'm currently +20 on the bike, even on the run and have a 60 minutes to make up on the swim which I'll hopefully dent later this afternoon

Hope all is well and keep up the good work!

Have a bit of work to do on the run, should make a pretty good dent in swim before end of week and the bike could easily be in the "surplus" category before all is said and done.

With respect to the March Challenge, I'm here:

Total swim yards    12,050.00

Swim goal    6,400.00

% complete swim    100%

Total bike miles    116.40

Bike goal    144.00

% complete bike    81%

Total run miles    47.53

Run goal    55.00

% complete run    86%

Did the LT test for the bike. LT max HR is 166. Is that good or bad?

1 - Recovery 108 - 137

2 - Extensive Endurance 137 - 148

3 - Intensive Endurance 148 - 155

4 - Sub-Threshold 156 - 165

5a - SuperThreshold 166 - 169

5b - Anaerobic Endurance 170 - 175

5c - Power 176 - 181

So now I know what my bike HR is and what my running pace should be depending on given run (www.mcmillanrunning.com).

Planned 1-2 hour bike tonight on the trainer.  Swim tomorrow night. Swim and run on Friday.  Bike and run on Sat.

ING Half Marathon on Sunday!

You're an animal, Jonathan!!  And I'm glad you're in OUR cage!

Re: your LT numbers, I don't think you look at 166 as good or bad, you look at it as the baseline number that's going to allow you to structure training that best meets your needs and best allows you to perform at optimum levels when needed.

That's great that you've got that # bench-marked - I really need to do the same, though I know from the February Time Trial that my cycling number is in the same ballpark as yours.  Hope training the rest of the week goes well - and especially hope the half goes great!!

Jonathan,
Great work.  Your Bike LT result is what it is, it's not good or bad, just the state of fitness your in at the moment.  My bike LT last year at this time was 166, my last bike LT test in Jan it was 173.  My fitness in that period of time went into another dimension!  Hence the need to do the LT tests periodically.

Things are starting to chill out here at work as the Masters approaches. I'm looking forward to IMAZ, but I have to admit I'm looking forward to a couple of weeks of free form workouts and adding in some weights.  My goals after IMAZ will be to reduce my sprint times and establish some quicker Oly and HIM times.

No racing in my immediate future, but I'm planning to do the Tour de Cure June 16th.

http://tour.diabetes.org/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=4387&px=3334912

I know I'll be able to do the 50K, but I'm hoping I can do the 100K.  I'm defintely happy to be training again.
