how was everyone's weekend?

On my training log, everytime i fill it out, i feel disappointed. Even though I didn't bike or swim, a workout looks so insignificant There's nothing wrong with getting some good cross training in, right? Obviously, I can't ignore the rudiments, but am I alone?

My weekend went okay, I'm starting to get into the swing of things with the exception of some weak moments when a plate of hot wings and a cold beer are set before me! I made it up with a 2 hour walk/run on Sunday, I hope I burned enough calories!

I have another technical question of sorts, since I have started running I am experiencing a little bit of a burning sensation under the pads of my toes and then it goes numb, (this only happens after about an hour) all you runners out there, any thoughts, suggestions? I know my shoes aren't too tight because they are a size bigger than what I normally wear..so any help you can send my way would be great!

My toes go numb when I workout on the elliptical.  I'm never on the treadmill long enough for it to happen then, but I think it's just from the pressure of your weight on your feet.

Yeah, I've never experienced that one... sorry!  Have you built up to the distances you're currently running...?  If not then your feet will probably be in shock!    good luck.  Maybe try some different shoes and/socks just to see if they are the problem.

My toes go numb too on the eliptical. I don't know why and my guess is the same, I guess because there is so much pressure on your feet. I've tried pressing through my heel and it seemed to work. Try that, I think we are using the balls of our feet too much.

Oh and there's nothing wrong with cross-training! It's a great way to build up your endurance. Don't forget any excercise counts. You're moving and that's the key

Thanks ladies for the advice, I will try it! I do do a little bit of cross training but have been focusing alot on my running since it's my weakest link. I do try to not run back to back so that I can give my feet a rest. It makes sense though about the weight on your feet, I have a little (or a lot..depends on who you're asking!) more than I would like so I'm sure that puts some stress on my feet. Hope you all had a great Monday! I actually got into the gym and lifted...whoo hooo, first time in a long time...it's a start right!

i'm gonna feel it so bad tomorrow, but I'm not giving in!

I'm playing fetch with my cat right now, does that count for any physical sport?

OOOOf.  I just swam AND biked at the Y.  That was a workout!  I practiced changing out of my suit and into my biking/running clothes and did it in just over 5 min., so I should be fine with a 10 min. transition this weekend.  I'm so excited to see how this goes!  I'm so nervous not knowing what the heck I'm getting into!!!  :D

I missed that you were going to be in an indoor Tri (went back to see if I could find the race you were talking about).  I think that's awesome that you're doing one so soon!  I imagine it'll give you a good indication of what your strengths and weaknesses are so that you can tweak the training for the rest of the winter.

I'm doing an Indoor Triathalon- they set it up so that everyone does 20 min. in the pool/20min. on a stationary bike, then 20min. on a treadmill.  So we each just do what we can within that time period and then they compare the distances.  NO clue what it will be like!  (a buncha drippy folks on treadmills, I 'spose!).  Nonetheless- I'm psyched!

You guys are all doing great!! Indoor tri sounds fun doesn't it? I think each one of you could try it as a workout before your first tri. Good practice both for transtions, great confidence boaster and good for your body to do each activity after each. As our bodies see the workout as one long one, not swimming then biking and then running....we all need to do our brick workouts to get ourselves in both our mind and body ready for it. When I do bricks my legs feel better when I hit this one corner...I sort of watch to see if my legs feel better sooner or later to see if I'm making progress. Cool thing about bricks is often triathletes run faster off the bike then they do in stand alone training.

I saw the PA at the Orthopedic Specialist today and no running for awhile for me due to a an Achilles tendon injury. He even said he was concerned that it would be okay for my late April Tri...I never imagined it would take 4 months to get better.  I have a PT appointment Thursday morning at the Y I swim at. When I got to work from the doctors appointment was told my job is over Friday. It means more time to train, but no $$.

More time for biking and swimming now...triathlon training is the ultimate cross training...always something else to do for a workout.

Kathy,

4 months is quite a long time!  And I'm sorry about the job situation.  It seems like you see the silver lining in all of this which is great!

Very funny about the softball comment....did you read what I wrote about that on a comment I left on Becky's blog...about me sucking...badly, LOL.

So do you have to wear a splint for you achilles?

Kathy,

So sorry to hear about the job and the achilles!  What a double whammy...   Hopefully with consistent cross-training you'll be good to go once you get the green flag on running!

so at the doc today, I weighed in at 135. My first thought was, is my digital scale off by ten pounds (too heavy)?! the nurse answered, quite possibly, sure. I was pretty elated, seeing as my scale hasn't BUDGED. Not that I've been working for it to, but c'mon, this is pretty good news, seeing as I'm suffering from some sinus monster in my throat. The doc looks at my chart and I see the WTF thought bubble go up. He says let's make sure it's calibrated correctly and puts me on a different scale.

I still believe he could've been nice enough to change my chart afterwards and NOT told me and let me carry on the rest of my day on Cloud 9, but no. Sure enough the second scale in their closet weighed me in (correctly, I assume) around 144. I'm still waving my fists at him. Hey, atleast there's no grape cough syrup involved.

In other news, I've added the Capital Texas Triathlon to my race schedule. After hearing news tonight of my grandmother having lymphoma cancer, I'll be running the tri as a member of Team in Training North Texas Chapter. They raise money to increase awareness and research of leukemia and lymphoma. After I get registered, I'll post some more info about donations. Any and all are greatly appreciated and go to a great cause.

I wanted to let you guys know how much your support means to me.

Yeah ... I think it was rude of the doctor to rain on your parade ... the thought that I weighed 10 lbs less would have sent me out singing and feeling like I could conquer the world ... shame on him for serving up that dose of reality!

So ... since weight is an issue with all of us ... I have to say I'm smiling today (sorry Lauren) ... my goal was to lose the 3 lbs I gained over the holidays by the end of January.  I weighed in this morning and good news ... the 3 lbs is gone plus 1 more ... so a total of 4 lbs.  Hmmm ... how shall I celebrate ... chocolate ...

Darn those doctors! We're paying them, they should tell us what we want to hear right!!! Sorry about the rain on your parade but it's exciting that you are pushing on and adding another tri to your schedule and for such a great cause! Every year I always particiapte in the Race for the Cure because I've had several family members that have had and have cancer so any chance I can get to help out research, I'm there, so let me know!!

My goal for Feb. is going to be to loose at least 4 pds and be able to swim a mile, run 3 and we shall see what I can do for biking, so far I have not ventured outdoors yet, still riding the bike at the gym.

Anybody else setting up goal??

Kathy-sorry to hear about the tendon, but you know better than anyone about overcoming obstacles ( I looked at your album) so it's just a little bump in the road...More time for focusing on your swimming right

Hi Julie,

1 meter divided by .9144=1 yard

So if you divide say 50 meters by .9144 that will give you the amount of yards.

 50 divided by .9144 = 55 yards

My husband's job requires all sorts of calculations and conversions, so I called him to ask about this   Otherwise I hadn't a clue!
