Just checking in for all those doing the IM Louisville for 2007. How is your training going so far?

No serious training yet. I'm planning to start the official training plan in Feb. I'm enjoying the lack of structure for a few months and just keeping up with technique, etc.

I'm excited that there are several folks here in central OH that will make for a pretty good group to train with this summer.

Good luck to everyone !!!

Starting in mid-Sept I focused on running for some local 10K's and a 5 miler. I also just wanted a break from the pool and bike. Starting last week I am back in the pool and back on the bike trainer. I am planning about 10-12 hrs per week (including elliptical for 1 hr, 2 times a week to help save the knees) until the end of Feb when I will get into a specific training plan for IM Lou. My basketball coaching will be done by then and track coaching won't start until mid-March and I can train with the track team somewhat.

I am training first for a half in April, then will start in to an 18 week bridge for IM training. Currently at 9 hours a week - biking around 2 hours (for long rides) and running 90 min. for long runs. I'm tired!! This early wake up time is kicking my a**!!

Sounds like we are all on the same page generally. My "revovery" weeks are about 7 hrs and my "long" weeks are about 11 hours or so. I am going out 6 days a week just to get my body used to the consistency. So far so good.

I did a 3 hr ride last week...since it was 70 degrees and the next day is was like 45 degrees......go figure.

Looking forward to August.

I start my "official" plan on monday. It's going to be here before we know it!

In case anyone is interested, my coach is doing an IM Louisville Ironman Camp with Troy Jacobsen (The Spinnervals guy) here in Louisville. I think it's something in the range of $345 for 3 days and you'll be training on the course. Sounds pretty cool, if anyone's interested.

I think Troy has it on his site already, but you have to "search" to find it. They'll also post it on my coach's website, www.thetrainingstudio.com. I'm not a big "promoter" of stuff, but thought i'd throw it out there for those wanting to take a look!

Hope everyone's training is going well!

Prepping for my first Half Ironman in March is giving me some solid base. The distances aren't as much of a concern as the weather How do you prep for heat and humidity?

Good question, for me in TN, we have the same weather; it will be humid no matter what; if we can get mild temps (around 80) it should be a FAST race.

I know this sounds silly but in the summer train with extra cloths if you live in a dry mild climate like Orange County.

Secondly, you better prepare for a nutritional plan that includes lots and lots of endurolytes, salt tablets, etc.

In my IM last year, it was 90 degrees plus, I ate at least 30-40 of them just on the bike and then 4-6 more per hours on the run. Despite the conditions, I never cramped and actually was strong at the finish.

For you first timers; don't forget to experiment for you nutrition, NAIL it and you will have a great IM. Neglect it and I don't care how much you trained, you will feel like death on the IM.

I am getting excited!

This week kicks off my new schedule.  Although I am not training specifically for Ironman Louisville at this time, I am getting into the mode of exercising more then once a day.

March 1 is my official kickoff to Ironman training.   At which point I am full steam ahead.

Careful with this, salt (or electrolyte) consuption is based on your individual sweat rate. For those of you in non-humid climates, train with a wet towel over your head (just kidding).

Good Catch, I just think that most folks; whether they are IM races or even Hot marathons cramp us cause they neglected their nutrition. I am a cramper with a high sweat rate so the salt tablets/ substitutes have been a life saver for endurance racing.

My training keeps starting and stalling. I had an injury that set me on the sidelines for almost 2 weeks in ALL sports, but I'm back, baby!

I am finally getting back on a plan. I have spent the last few weeks just winging it. It felt good to take a little break, but it is time to get busy!

As for the heat and humidity, come join me in DC this summer! This place was built on a swamp and the humidity is disgusting.
