Alright, we've got to find out a way to get together and train, a few of us if not all of us.

Here's the breakdown (feel free to add on):
BikerGrrl lives in Hopkins
co tri guy lives in Golden Valley/Minneapolis
deutsch lives in Golden Valley
hikergerb works in St. Louis Park
hundoracer works in Golden Valley
KrisMarie lives in New Hope
matchman lives/works in St. Louis Park
mndiver worksout at Burnsville Y (I know it's not West Minneapolis, but it's on my way to work)
sparco works in Golden Valley
trigirlkris swims in New Hope

You'd think with this many people living/working in West Minneapolis that we could at least get a few of us together.

O.K. I'll start.  I just signed up for a Y membership with my wife, but I have access to the Y in Burnsville, New Hope, Minnetonka and Southdale.  I have been working out at Edinborough in Edina.

Here's my schedule this week:
Early-morning workouts (6:30am up to 8am--depends on the day)
Monday - Bike (stationary)/Run (indoor track or treadmill) at either Burnsville Y, Edinborough, Minnetonka Y or New Hope Y
Tuesday - Swim/Run (same locations)
Wednesday - Bike/Run
Thursday - Swim/Weights
Friday - Run

Occasionally I can break away for lunch, or miss a morning workout and make it up after work, so suggest away...

Anyone in?  (I'll be off-line 'til tomorrow night).  Post if you workout at any of these places in the morning, or suggest a place, and we'll see who can make it.  I know there's a few of you brave souls who run outside year-round.  Suggest a place and we'll see who's up to the challenge.

I'm usually at the Burnsville Y every Mon-Th from about 3:15 to 4:15. Weird schedule I know, I bust out of school right away at 3:00 and then need to be home by 4:45 to meet my kids off the bus.

i like the evening rides/runs/swims. Once it is spring and the sun is out longer, it will be great! I get off work at 4pm, so let me know! does anyone have guest passes to the Y or a local gym in the area fore mentioned??

Good idea, Sal. Thanks! Winter is hard and I tend to workout or run downtown Minneapolis after work (if anyone is interested in that, let me know). I go to Lifetime for swim and Xtrain, but bike at home (trainer) and run outside (so far, the wind chill has been GREAT).

Anyway, I do however want to run at least one weekend day for a long run. My area of choice is Lake Calhoun or Isles, only because they are so conveniently 3.1 (or 3.2 on the bike path) miles round. I have a new twisted plan which includes training for both Bjorklund half (new plan since Saturday) and the Minneman for June.

This upcoming Sunday, I will be running two laps around Lake Calhoun if anyone wants to join me. I have another friend who I run with and we'd be glad to have more people. I like afternoons because it's warmer of course. Let me know! 10 mph pace.

When the weather is nicer though I am looking forward to evening and weekend rides and runs. You can find me and my husband on the three rivers trails originating in Hopkins, nearly every nice day it seems. More on that in five months or so, I guess...

I am starting to swim in the mornings and run either at lunch or after the boys go down. If someone wants to meet at one of the Y's, just let me know.

I've got 1400 yds of swimming to do tomorrow morning.  I'm shooting for either the Southdale, Minnetonka or New Hope Y.  Since I just joined the Burnsville Y last Saturday, I don't quite know what the lap swim schedule is at any of the other Y's.  I need to make a few phone calls this afternoon.

Otherwise, got 34 min of spinning in at my work gym this morning (commuting this morning was not fun, I was not planning on trying any of the new gyms this morning).  Planning on getting 80 min of running in somewhere after work (to wait for the traffic to die down).  I also need to find out which of the Y's (New Hope, Minnetonka, Southdale) has the longest indoor track...

Go ahead and post if you know the answers to any of these questions (lap swim times and track lap length).  Otherwise, I'll make some calls, and post again later tonight with updates.

Bikerrgirl,
I'm going to try to get into The Bjorkland half marathon also, good luck. I've been told if you have the application in the day they send it out you have a decent chance of getting drawn. Also, did you mean 10 minute mile pace for the Sunday run? 10 m.p.h. pace is flying.

Lap swim schedule at Burnsville
M-W and F-5:15 to 6:25 all 4 lanes
Thursday- 5:15-7:45 all 4 lanes

After that they have one lane open for lap swimming from 6:30-7:20.
All 4 lanes open up at 7:20 -7:55.
All the above times are for the A.M.

Evening gets a little sketchy because of swim lessons

You can go online and print out the pool schedule if you want.
They also have the schedule sheets you can take home. They are on the wall to the right hand side right after you check in.

We just cancelled our LTF membership; my treadmill arrives sometime within the next two hours and then I will be set with treadmill & trainer in the basement.  If anyone is looking for a place to swim in the New Hope area, you may be interested in our little Masters group.  We are uncoached and at all different levels.  I generally bring my own workouts so I'm not tempted to do something I shouldn't.  Many in the group do the posted workout of 3000-3500 yards, but there are several of us who do not.  We meet MWF from 6-7:30AM.  Right now there are about 10 of us total, but the most on any given day has been 7.  I swim from 6-7, so I can get to work, adn alternate days with my husband.  If you are interested, here's the link: http://nhcp.usswim.net/masters.htm

Once we can get out again to ride, I would be interested in group rides or (slow) runs.  Home is Maple Grove, work is Brooklyn Park, have bike rack, can travel!

I love masters swimming, but the thing that is a problem for me it that most masters clubs require a membership in both their club and the US masters group. I mean with all the fees that could be spent I would have nothing for entry fees.
MNTRI Club - 35
Local master 30
US Master 30
USAT 35
I believe the Y has masters classes that do not cost anything above the membership, but I need to check for sure.

I would love to get together for some workouts. Right now, I work out at the LTF in Plymouth during mid-afternoon (do the treadmill, bike, and weights there). I am in the process of trying to find swimming lessons. I posted this in another thread as well, but if anyone is a member of LTF and wants to go in on semi-private swimming lessons let me know, otherwise I probably will be doing that within the next few weeks! I feel like I need to learn how to do the basic strokes before I start swimming regularly. I think it would be great come this spring to start doing some training runs/bikes/swims together. Count me in!

Kristin,
Before you spend the money on swim lessons, I would be willing to get together with you and see if I might be able to help with your swimming. I am NOT a coach, but I do play one on the internet, J/K.

Swimming was my weak sport, so I spent 2 years with a coach (http://www.howieenduranceproject.com/) working mainly on my swimming and I am happy to pass those things onto other swimmers as good karma. Before tris and my coach, I hated swimming and struggled in the water, but thanks to him and time in the water, swimming is actually my second favorite sport next to riding. Feel free to PM or email me here if you are interested.

Killer work day yesterday.  Was at work late, and then helped my son with his Pinewood Derby car.  So didn't get my run in.  Haven't had the chance to decipher all the Y swim schedules, so I'll being sticking with the old standby this morning.  Swim and run at Edinborough...(if anyone's interested for future reference, it's on the corner of York and 494, $4 a pass, but I get a 10-punch card)...

just a question...but how many of us have trainers for our bikes??? 2 or so times a month or more (until it gets warm again)... we could meet in a large place and do some spinning....just a thought...I just got mine and I am staring at it and it is staring back at me waiting for my new bike to join it!

I have one, but it's not very portable (mag resist on rear wheel, front forks lock into the trainer frame).  I've been considering spinning classes at the Burnsville or Edina Y, but I'd end up getting there late (6:10am-6:30am)  because of family logistics.

O.K., here's how my schedule panned out this week:

Monday: morning (6:15am-ish - 7:30am-ish) brick at work gym (Golden Valley)
Tuesday: morning swim at Edinborough in Edina
Wednesday: evening run at Burnsville Y
Thursday: morning swim at Edinborough in Edina
Friday: morning run at Burnsville Y

So here's the Friday question:  I swim at Edinborough even though I have a Y membership that allows me to swim at the Edina Y (Southdale).  I do that because I never have to wait for a lane at Edinborough.

Question:  Who swims at Southdale Y in the morning, and do you have to wait for a lane?  I would most likely get there around 6:30am.

co_tri_guy - 2007-01-19 12:29 PM Sparco, Where do you work at in GV?

Right now, for brick sessions...at my work gym (Plymouth Ave. North, just east of 169), but have been considering hitting the Minnetonka or New Hope Y's for my morning swims (my scheduled swim days are Tuesday and Thursday).  I leave Farmington about 5:50am and that gets me up to the Golden Valley area about 6:35-6:40am.  Any idea how busy the pools are at those Y's at that time of the morning?

Otherwise, if we set a time for a morning run, I can bring up my cold weather gear and meet a few folks for an outside run.  Northwest Y (New Hope) and Ridgedale Y (Minnetonka) have indoor tracks (18 laps/mile).

Here's my schedule for the week:

M:  Brick (20 min bike/1 hr. run--usually can't get the whole distance in before work, so sometimes finish up the mileage after work)
Tu: 1400 yd swim/45 min run
W:  Brick (20 min bike/1 hr. run)
TH: 1000 yd swim
F:  35 min run
Sa: Securian Half Marathon, St. Paul
Su: Rest day

Post if you want to try and get together...

I work at Allianz 394 and 100. I usually swim at the North Minneapolis Y and I am the only person swimming from 6am-7am. I usually run the treadmill right now, when ever I run on an indoor track I almost always get injured. Right now, my runs are short also ~3-5 miles and at a 10-11' pace. I have no real days for workouts yet.

Would that be North Community on West Broadway or the Emma B. in Coon Rapids?

...and I am the only person swimming from 6am-7am.

That's cool.  Sometimes at lap pools, the less, the merrier.  I'll try and stop in on Tuesday.  I'll check my work schedule and see if that's do-able...

No biggie, on Monday and Wednesday I do bricks, so I can always ride stationary for a while then head over to the treadmills.  I'll check my schedule next week...

Just throwing my hat in the ring as someone who'd welcome training partners -- I swim at the uptown and midtown YWCAs in Minneapolis. We have free masters with memberships (and great coaching, btw), and you can get a punchcard for masters if you're not a member.

I live very near the East Bank of the U of M, close to River Road and Franklin Ave. SE.
