That's what it said last year, and when I emailed and asked for clarification, I was told that it had to be an official IM race ( 70.3 or IM ).

-C

That's because of the now-resolved split between WTC and USAT. They're friends again now.

Aren't international slots done separately ... e.g. north America is one pool and then there's the rest of the world?

(... or I have I confused that with our current foreign policy? )

Rocket Man - 2007-01-21 8:56 PM

I read something on the website either last year or year before about there being a record (at the time) amount of entries into the lottery. The number they published was 3300. It only stands to reason as triathlon has become more popular that that number would grow.

I have no idea how many international entries were submitted.

Nope I do not think your confused since WTC wrote the policy.

Yes, as I understand it's a separate drawing, and there are less slots. The question is what are the odds - better or worse? I am not a US citizen, so I was wondering if anybody knows how many international applicants enter the lottery...

They kissed and made up last year.  Hence Kona shows up in my 2006 USAT rankings.

Unless you have it in writing from WTC that *any* Half-Iron distance will validate your spot, I'm standing by my post.

Just got this from WTC:

Hi Jim,
Yes any 1/2 or longer event will validate your spot. I am attaching a document with frequently asked questions that will hopefully answer anything you need to know. Let us know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Hi,

I wanted to clarify whether or not any USAT-sanctioned 70.3 or longer event will validate a lottery spot. Thanks in advance.

All of you who think it will be easier to qualify in the 75+ categories seem to forget that these 70 year-olds probably started doing Triathlon in their 50's!  By the time most of us are 70+, there will be far more than 3 competitors in the higher age groups, I assure you.  I don't think qualifying will be any easier.  Although by then, there will surely be an IM Hawaii that is not the World Championships, so they can capitalize on the Hawaii dream.  I'm surprised it hasn;t happened already.

Anyways, good luck everyone!

Did you happen to ask why she is screwing with the system and potentially taking a lottery spot from someone that, well, actually wants to do the race??

I assumed he was being sarcastic.

Chi, please tell us you're joking.

yeah I am joking. I forget we have a sarcism font. so hard to find and to use.

I am in it because I want to win it even though I doubt I will make it anymore since I been a slacker this year but maybe I will be ok if I get some hussle behind my lack of muscle.

I figured out I was using one of my swim toys wrong, and I got a couple more so look out. not like it matter sicne either way I will not win a spot over someone else.

I'm glad they said "...any 1/2 or longer event will validate your spot." since USAT doesn't sanction many races in Canada, or I would guess in the rest of the world outside the US. Not that I'm entering the lottery any time soon, but who knows what the future will bring.
