In case anyone's interested, I found a site called Competitive Edge Multisports that's offering 40% off everything until May 15th.  I think it's a home based business, but I got some stuff very quickly.  It's mainly accessories, so I got two pairs of TYR goggles, cycling socks, and a race belt.

Ditto on the cholesterol!  Good job!

Does anyone have one of those scales that measure body fat?  Do they actually work?

My doctor used a machine that mesures an electrical pulse through your body. I think it is BS....Look in the mirror it does not lie..

Last week in some of the inspires, I saw a question about how long to stay under water after each length, and whether it's better to come up right away or stay under longer.

I had a look at YouTube over the weekend and watched a bunch of videos of Michael Phelps.  I was amazed at how long they all stay under water.  Not just that, but they sort of "slither" while they're under to propel themselves even further.

Have a look if you get a chance - plus you get to see lots of guys in their skin tight jammers!Wink

I have one and I think it works.  I think the number might be off a bit, but it's a systematic error.  So you can use it for trending.  Mine also give you a hydration %.  That's a good one and I am pretty sure it works because I've tested it before and after runs.  Huge difference!

The electrical pulse is a good guideline but a submergence test is the 'gold' standard.

Just read this in the NY Times. Might be of interest to some people, it's about interval training.

Enjoy!

Interesting article.  I've known about the benefits, but I was surprised to see the dramatic improvements in endurance that they listed.

Subject: Bikes getting wet?

Just curious if it does any harm for a bike getting wet and not being ridden?  The reason is I'd like to ride tomorrow, so I'll put the bike on my car.  But it's also calling for some showers, so there's a chance the bike will be sitting in the rain on the rack.

Is there anything special I should do?

No problem doing that.  Just add some lube before you head out.  Put your bike in the back seat, that's always an option.

ditto on the lube.  My bike gets rained on sometimes during the day while I'm at work.  I usually try to clean off the drive train, and re-lube it afterwards too.

On a related note, I just found out yesterday that I have been doing a no-no when I clean my cassette.  I've been spraying the degreaser on it, while it's still on the wheel.  That's bad, because the degreaser can get into the hub.  From now on, I'll remove the cassette when I clean it.

Bob - I don't see a big problem leaving your bike in the rain as long as you clean it properly and re-lube as Eric and Dan suggested.... the only thing I could see being a problem is your computer (if you have one).  I know they don't like getting wet.

I've really enjoyed this group too! I'm trying to decide whether to join your group again Robyn. Now that I've gotten a race under my belt, I guess I'm not really a "newbie" anymore, so I'd kind of hate to take up a spot in the group from someone else. At the same time, I still have a lot to learn and it was nice having this group to learn from. Is anyone else going to rejoin the group?

I'd like to join up again - I've really enjoyed the interaction, and I've learned so much more than if I hadn't joined up back in the winter.  I just saw the new thread that Robyn started.  I'll go re-introduce myself for other new people.

I also had a sign to rejoin - after my ride today, "Don't Stop Believing" came on the radio on Bob-FM! Laughing
