Pre-race routine:

My major "training" is walking my dog for about 80 minutes every morning on the trails near our house. The trails are pretty hilly so I get a decent workout and my dog never lets me take a day off.
Swim
  • 30m
  • 1091 yards
  • 02m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

I'm a strong but slow swimmer. I didn't learn to do the crawl until I was almost 40 and I always seem to be out of breath so I swim one length crawl and then one length breast stroke or side stroke. I try to breathe every 3 strokes.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I used to bike a lot but haven't done much biking in the last 14 years. So I am working on it.
Bike
  • 30m
  • 4.78 miles
  • 9.56 mile/hr
Comments:

I had fun! Everyone else thought the bikes weren't calculating correctly but I had my new iPod (a Christmas gift from my husband) going and I enjoyed myself!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I felt really good about the run as I don't run much (spend 1hr 20min. each morning walking my dog and a friend's dog on the trails near our home. The trails are up and down a lot and sometimes I run a bit but it's hard to run when it is 3 degrees and I am wearing 2 prs. of long johns, wind pants, 2 long john tops + a wool parka, 2 hats, 2 pr gloves, 2 pr socks etc. So it felt great to run in just my tri suit, shoes and socks! I haven't run that far in probably 20 years!
Run
  • 30m
  • 2.23 miles
  • 13m 27s  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a lot!

Event comments:

My daughter, Autumn, is my inspiration and cheerleader. I wouldn't be doing this without her! So hurrah for Autumn! And thanks to all the BT people in our wave who were so nice to me! I really felt welcomed and MUCH more comfortable!

Autumn does appear to have enough positive energy to cheerlead for all of BT.

But you are an inspiration yourself!  Great job!  Congrats!!!

Great job on your indoor tri! I am in Autumn's mentor group and she is very inspiring. Sounds like you are very inspiring to Autumn as well. My dad is 76 and he and I are doing a race together this weekend, well kind of together. He is running the full marathon and I am running the half. Our course is the same for the first 6 miles so we will be together for a bit. He is a HUGE inspiration to me!

WOW! I can't imagine doing a full or even a half marathon at 66 let alone at 76! Congratulations to your dad. And yes, it is fun ( and also VERY sweet) to do these races together, Mom and Daughter or Dad and Daughter. I'm sure that your dad is very proud of you.

Congratulations, you did great!

You say that you cannot imagine doing a full or even a half marathon at 66.  Do not sell yourself short!  DARE to imagine, my dear!  You can do anything you set your mind to do.  You set your mind to do the "Tri-U-Mah" and you did it, right.  Just run after Autumn ... or better yet, let her run to catch up to you!

Great job! Way to be an inspiration to Autumn and all of us!

At my first sprint, I was passed by a woman with the number 74 on her calf. It made me want to bang my head on the pavement, but it was incredibly impressive.

Congratulations on a great race!  It was so much fun to meet you.  Like I said, I marvel at the fact that you've picked up triathlons at an age when most people are looking forward to doing nothing.  You're an inspiriation and my new hero.

Hope to see you at some races this summer.

Cheers!

Tom
