O.K., we're less than a month away.  Who's in?

I've got listed (http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/directory/link-detail.asp?linkid=5127)
Me & my wife Cindy
Emily
Jim
Devin
Pamela
Denise
Ryan

Last year Denise and her boyfriend and my wife and I met before the race in the pavilion (it was raining) at the corner closest to Minnehaha falls.  It was great to put faces with names and we took a few pics.  Anyone up for meeting about a half hour or so before the race?

I'm shooting for a PR (47).  If my wife's friends bail out of this race (she was going to run with them this year), I'll run it with her (1:05).

Its gonna be a game time decision for me. I know its a huge race but does anyone know if it typically sells out? If I do run, I'd love to shoot for a 53 minute 10K.

I don't think it has sold out yet in the few years that I've run it.  They just let everybody run!  It is a huge race.
http://www.getingear10k.com/registration.html  One caution: there is no race day registration.

I recommend trying to scoot up toward the front if you're shooting for a PR.  You spend the 1st couple minutes trying to get around people if you're anywhere near the middle.

Still in here too. I am shooting for 57 (dare I think 55?). I've not done a 10K so it's not technically a PR, but I did a 8K and a half-mary relay so I think I might be right about the time. We'll see! I am going to run it with my friend Carrie who I run with and we're the same speed usually. We decided we will put it all out on race day, so we might surprise ourselves.

I will look for you in that spot that you suggested.

I am in, but am lacking severely in the training part, so I am using it as a long run, unless I feel really strong in the next 3 weeks.

I would do it, but I've been training by doing like 30-45 minute runs lately... so I don't get more than about 4 miles in at a time. I'm not sure if I'm ready for a 10k just yet!

If you have had 4 mile runs you could be ready for this race no problem.  Do a 5 miler this weekend or next and by race day it will be a natural proggresion up to 6.2 miles.  Good luck.

Hey sharp4850 -

Just do a 45 minute run this weekend and 50 next weekend, keep up the usual 30-45s during the week (twice or so?) and you'll be fine. See you there?

Hmmm... I remember going golfing on the day of my prom. Of course, that was so long ago. Kids these days don't have the same stamina

Its gonna be a game time decision for me.

You probably already know it, but there is no race day registration.

I'll have to see how I feel at Trail Mix on 4/21 before I decide on a goal for Get in Gear. Definitely won't be in 10k PR shape by then.

just finished my registration, will go and pick up my packet on Friday.

Are we BT'ers meeting anywhere prior to the race? This will be my first 10k. I am going to pace it like a 10min training run, but keeping in mind that it is to determine my 10k tri time (try to run what i do on saturday for the run leg of a tri--after more training)

Anyone have an easy place to meet at the race location??

How about we meet just outside the pavillion (the corner closest to Minnehaha Falls) at 8:50?  Someone can bring a BT sign...

As far as parking, you can park at the VA Center and take the shuttle to the park.  Last year my wife and I parked just north of the start and walked 3 blocks to the park.  I think Denise said she parked at Fort Snelling and took the light rail up to the park.

see you all there!

Question-

With so many people, does your "official" time start once you cross the start line? Or does it just start and if you are behind a bunch of people, too bad...your time will be longer...

I know there are race chips for this race. Just wondering, in case some crazy thing were to happen with my HRM.

Chip-timed.  As soon as your chip crosses the 'official' starting line, you will (or won't) hear a beep.  That is when the computer starts tracking your course time.  I can't remember if your chip comes in the race packet.  Just remember to have them remove it at the finish.  Otherwise, they'll charge you ~$30 for the chip if you don't mail it back to them.  I remember I was so excited about finishing my 1st 10K several years ago, I walked off with the chip and had to mail it back!

I liked it when the chip girls accosted me at the end of Iron girl to remove my chip since I had no clue at the time and would have surely forgotten it. It was a bit abrupt at the time, but when I had to take off my own (!) chip at the Human Race I realized how nice the service was.

I'll be looking for you guys near the pavillion. I am also meeting other people there.

I just realized packet pickup is on Friday. I signed up so long ago I am not totally together on where I need to be and when, yet.

So just to confirm BTer's are meeting 30 minutes before the 9:30AM 10K start, so 9 AM at the pavilion? The weather looks better than last year with a 58F start and 8 MPH wind out of the NW!
