I never said Black Bear wasn't hilly. I think my exact words were, "Holy mother of God...were all going to die!" or something like that.

Yes...when you get to about the 1900 yard mark...oh crap...the swim shouldn't be that long should it?

I'm with Fatdad on that. I'll be lumbering along right behind...well, maybe way behind...him.

You must have me confused with somebody that has the ability to run, and swim, and bike.

OK, more first timer questions:

how are the swim waves setup? I'm in the 40-44 age group. Does that mean anything for the swim wave I'll be in?

Fatdad, check the website, the race booklet is up and has the waves listed in order.

Thanks to Larry and Michele for setting up the open water swims in Wenonah. I went last night - it was my second OWS attempt, and much more successful than the first try. Great way to help burn off some pre-tri anxiety over the swim.

Any word on water temp?

I just read the athlete guide and it said that wetsuits probably will not be allowed at all. This year I was figuring that I'd wear the wetsuit and risk giving up on my award.

Also, any idea how many minutes between waves?

I think I read 3 minutes between waves and 15 minutes between end of sprint waves and the start of the oly.

The water temp willprobably run similar to last year. On Monday of race week the water was 87 degrees. On Wednesday it was 88 (these temperatures were taken in the afternoon so I'm sure it was cooler at 6am which is when we will take the temp next week).

We got rain Friday and Saturday and the lake went down to 83.4 for the race.

I would say almost no shot for under 78 and about a 50/50 for under 84.

Thanks,
Larry

I'm hoping to get there around 2pm myself. Would like to check-in and give myself some time before the 3pm pre-race info session.

How do any of us find each other?

I believe someone here set up an area for BTers with EMC for the "tri club corner" thing on Saturday afternoon. I'm not sure when we'll be getting there - I'm picking Sluggo up at the train station first. I know we'll be there in time for the first timers meeting.

Under 5 days to go. I'm having trouble concentrating on anything but Sunday morning. Geez, this better go well. No sinking in the lake, no flats on the bike, and no side-stickers on the run.

but i'm concentrating on "smooth swimming", "speedy cycling", and "rapid running" - focus on the positives, man!

Not to worry gang! Everything will be great, looks like the weather is going to be better for Sunday and in the 80's, so cooler in the AM when we will be hitting the water. Good luck and see you all on Saturday at the meet and greet.

It looks like you will be able to wear them and there's a remote chance with the predicted mild temps it will be under 78.

See you today!

Had a great time yesterday. It was my first event, but it couldn't have been any better of an experience.

Can't wait for next year.

OH, and I think all of us BTers owe GADZINM a big hearty CONGRATS. He won the sprint race by doing it in 57 minutes and change.

Heck, I wasn't off my bike yet, and he was done.

Just a monster performance.

Thanks guys. Didn't expect the congrats when I was coming to check this post out. Very kind of you guys.

Fun race. I loved it last year and had a blast with it this year. Great job to all of you guys out there this weekend.

Not sure why scoogie didn't do it. I spoke to him in Avalon and told him I was disappointed that he wasn't going to be here this year. Guess it didn't matter too much. I had a good race with the 19 year old stud that was chasing me. Fast kid. Really nice guy too. Look out for him in the future. He is a beast....
