aerodrink - what's with the yellow thing

You can leave it in, and add water or whtever on the ride without having to tak ethe top off. Pretty pragmatic.

So basically, someone took a cupholder, put a poof on the top, named it "Aerodrink," and is charging $25 bucks for it. Why couldn't I have thought of this?

Are there no bugs in the worlds you people ride in? The yellow poofy thing keeps the bees and other flying object, not to mention grit, from getting in and then up the straw and into your gullet.

Switching to a shower poofie also greatly reduces the splashing problem.

Replace the yellow thing immediately. It allows for too much liquid to splash out. It can also come out too easily. Every race I've ever done there's a collection of these things on the ground at the first good sized bump. A poofy thing from the dollar store stays in better and doesn't allow nearly as much liquid to splash out.

Good answer Joe...and then there's that issue of pesky physics, as well, if there was a cap, then you would be sucking the liquid out and creating a vacuum. Difficult to do during normal times, let alone while you're a-pounding on pedals.

Well you could punch a little air hole to prevent a vacuum, but then BUGS and splashing would happen...I suppose someone could insert a yellow poofy thing to prevent that.

But then how would you refill it on the fly....hmmmm, maybe a funnel. It could be aero andpeople could wear it on their heads when you are not using it?  Maybe get Bell or Giro to make it?

Joe, you are absolutely right, it's the bad (and missing) instructions that create a problem...

But I'm not sure about sucking anything through a shower poof (even a fast red one Bear!) that is made from non-food quality grade plastic (not that I know the profile ones are!).

I'd like to know!

In the mean time, the darn thing (poorly designed as it is) won't fall out if it is unrolled and rerolled several times and used correctly.

If you really still hate it...I would think a soft, real sponge or loofah (I love saying that) would work even better and could be cut to fit. 

You can get those at your local pharmacy...don't use it on your butt first! 

The Podium Quest bottle has a cap.  And you don't have to take it off to refill.  It doesn't create a vacuum.  It doesn't splash out. 

In fact, if you look at Profile's latest aero bottle coming out later this year, it looks a lot like the Podium Quest bottle.

I talked to the Profile Design guy at St. A's and they are making some changes.

First the current design they are making one with a cap of some type or an add on cap that should be out soon.

His suggestion is to open the yellow thing up like a pantyhose and fold it in 8" section inside itself and it becomes bigger, stays in place and doesn't get ejected out.

They are coming up with another aerobottle much like the podium quest that has two chambers and it will have about 45-50 oz capacity, dishwasher safe, and has the fill on the go type caps like Podium Quest and fits in the profile design aero bar mount they have out. It will be ready and in stores in 8 weeks.

I'm getting one of the new ones for sure as it will allow me to put my powertap computer inside my aerobars. I can't with the design of the podium quest. It retails for about $30 and I think Podium Quest is $50. I use my Podium quest to race but the two chambers leak into each other, it is hard to clean well, and the covers eject going over bumps. I use electrical tape to tape them closed when I race only thing I have figured out to solve the problem.
