Total Time = 12h 30m
Overall Rank = 47/255
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 6/22
Pre-race routine:

We were told they were ahead of schedule, so I warmed up early and then waited. Would have pushed it closer to the start. They were early at 10, but not by the time I raced at 12:30.
Event warmup:

Short run to loosen tight back, stretched, set-up transition area, 300 yds. in pool
Swim
  • 08m 40s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Transition to bike added in time. Aside from someone crossing the centerline and smashing hands, it was decent. Let the second swimmer pass on a turn. Had to make a pass on the second to last lap.
What would you do differently?:

Goggles got foggy, so it was very difficult to see. Needed more time in the pool, turns were slow and went out too fast.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Pleased w. transition.
Bike
  • 41m 58s
  • 13.7 miles
  • 19.59 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I would have taped a GU to the top tube, since I kind of bonked on the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Came in as planned, but due to back stiffness opted not to sit to put on socks and just went with shoes, hat, and glasses.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely would have taken the 30 seconds to put on my socks.
Run
  • 28m 31s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

Blisters at 1.5 miles and lack of food killed my chances at a good finish.
What would you do differently?:

Take the time to put on socks. Might switch race day shoes - go with a pair without a tongue.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and ate at the feed table.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Blisters and exhaustion.

Event comments:

Very well run race, look forward to competing in it again next year. Wish it was closer - four hours in the car was tiring, might stay the night prior next year.
