kleinrider - 2007-06-11 12:40 PM hey boys.... how was the weekend??  Anyone race.. Everyone put in big workouts.. i did a brick on Saturday, i was hurting on the run... my run always seems to suck after the bike, i don't know if i don't do enough of them or i go out to hard on the bike, whatever it is i need to fix it, if i want to get faster...

I had a good weekend.  This is my last full week before i start to taper out for the Oly.  I kind of feel like I'm cramming for an exam.  I know, it doesn't work that way.  I need to watch over doing it!

during your taper week, you want to have short workouts, but want to try and go fast..   Have your big meal 2 days before..

I had a crummy weekend, just ran out of time. But I was able to do 5 miles no stopping and felt great afterwards.

I have to leave last minute today for Malta for 2-4 weeks on business so I'm not sure how that's going to work out with my training. The place has a pool but it's one of those goofy shaped ones with a bar in it, should be fun doing laps early in the am. I may ship my bike there if it looks like it'll be longer than 3 weeks, I'll check in as often as I can.

LOL - I know, Malta is odd right, I didn't even know where it was. I'm an attorney and I'm going there to negotiate a contract to provide IT, sowftware and mainframe services. I work for an outsourcing company. Should be interesting for sure.

HA, you guys are funny. And yes all my friends always tell me that, I'm on the road about 80 days a year. Trust me Princess, my wife, will have a blast like she always does but I'm flying her out to Rome and meeting her there for next weekend so it wont be that bad.

I'm about 95% sure that the July 8th Sprint is still on for me. I can't imagine staying past July 5th so I'm still in it and you guys are still invited over!

I'll catch up with you guys in a couple of days, I;ll be traveling for the next 20 hours or so, yuck. Train hard!!!!!!

Hey guys, been a while since I've been around. Looks like everyone is getting along great with training and races! I managed a quick little race on the weekend and snagged first somehow. Even after getting lost on the start of the run. Always try to go ove rthe race route before hands, ya, I know! John, thanks for the advice on the OWS. I was out on Friday with my Tri Club and swam 1000 m's with zero problems. I don't really know what was different, I had on my tinted swim goggles, that was the only difference. So I guess, i am over it, or at least getting used to swimming in a lake and not a pool. I had an interesting afternoon yesterday. I went to see my doctor about some ache in my gut, thinking it was my hernia acting up (Ambilical from 2004) again, he freaked out after touching my stomach and had me race to the hospital for an ultrasound and possible surgury. Apendix. I was shaking the whole way to the hospital. All my training for nothing! So I got tot he hospital, the very cute tech could find nothing, so called inthe doctor and she could find nothing wrong either. No apendix anywhere. So they let me go with a warning that if I feel anything get in ASAP. They were amazed that I would race on Sunday after I told them that I spent Saturday on the couch in excrutiating pains in my guts. I thought I had a bad chicken burger on Friday night. Anyways, other than that, nothing going on. hope everyone else is well, I read over everyone's RR's today, they all looked like you guys are having a great time out there, keep it up!

Oh, don't get me wrong, I stopped plenty (12 mins to cross the lake @ 500 m's) I rolled over and did the backstroke a bunch. My suit took a bit of getting used to.

oh, and i also signed up for the Annapolis Tri in Sept.  I think I'm addicted.  This is like the healthy man's QVC.

Well I talked with the wifey, and she doesn't believe I am of any caliber yet to travel for races. I did tell her about my agreement for next year though, and that she can more understand. So I suppose I'll do the one next month here in Indiana.

I do hope to join up at some point though. Maybe we can pick a date next year now so we can all plan accordingly?

You talking to me Klein about the Philly tri? I won't be attending for sure.

I'm still at it, continuing to work on my base. My swimming still sucks. One day I feel like I might be improving then the next time out, I suck. At least I don't mind getting into the pool, just wish something would "click" and off I go. I know I bitched bout this before...

Clothes are starting to fit loosely, so that is cool. Some muscle definition that I haven't had for years starting to reappear.

I've been trying to do more weights after swimming, and also the core work out.

I volunteered for a tri on Saturday. It was to be one that I watched before doing one. haha

Hope all is going well.

Kevin -

Have you tried looking at the Total Immersion techniques for swimming?  www.totalimmersion.com, i think.  I got the video as I heard the book was hard to follow.  Lot's of triathletes swear by it, especially if they don't have a swimming background.  It's like $40 bucks to buy, but I'm happy to lend you mine to borrow...just pm me your address if you're interested.

John -

I'll be @ philly on sunday.  Can't wait to get going.  Taper week feels like caged animal week.

I'm in the LAST wave in the race.  Clydesdales and 55 year olds .

I think you said you were volunteering, right?  Do you know where you'll be stationed?  Would be great to meet up.  I'll be the tallest TNT guy sticking out like a sore thumb in his bright purple singlet!

Kevin Yes i am talking to you about the philly tri...   You aren't doing philly with Team in Training???  Then who is???

Swimming takes time, a lot of time.  The one thing i can suggest with swimming is work on one thing at a time, the most important thing to work on is keeping your head down when you swim, if you lift your head your feet sink.  So try to keep your head do looking at that black line.  When you get the head down thing figured out, then you move on to something else.  That's why i say it can take a long time.

good to hear you are loosing some weight and building muscle.  Keep up the good work....

Now who is doing the philly tri???

Greg... sorry about that....

Don't let taper week hold you back, taper doesn't mean don't do anything it means REST.  So you can still do somethings, but you just want go short, maybe 15min run instead of 40mins, maybe only 45min easy bike instead of 2hours.  Swimming is always a good thing.

I don't know where i'll be for the race, i am sure i'll be just floating around, I'll be looking for ya

kleinrider - 2007-06-25 11:44 AM greg how did the race go yesterday??

fun!  Really enjoyed it and came in just under my target at 2:49.

Did better on the bike than expected, but a little worse on the run.  Run got hard out in the sun and coming back into the wind.  I was a little timid as I felt some cramps coming on and didn't want to sieze up.    Swim was about what I expected, but looks like I took the long "line" in retrospect as I hugged the buoys on the right which doglegged.  I never thought about my line, but I will next time.  That wouldn't have mad a huge difference though.  I think I'm gonna get involved in a Masters group to get some coaching and organized workouts.   All in all, though, I couldn't be happier.

My transitions were MUCH improved from my first race.

sorry we didn't get a chance to meet up.  next time.

Hi guys - just checking in. Got back from Malta Friday night after nearly 3 weeks and have to leave for Malta again today for at least one more week. I've been running when I can but no bike and little swimming.

Work has been horrible over there - doing 15 hour days and it really sucks. I biked and ran the 2 days I was home and will try to get some swimming in as often as I can.

Can't wait for this deal to be over - my sprint on Sunday the 8th should be interesting with my lack of traning..............
