The Dam 09 Super Sprint Triathlon that I was supposed to run tomorrow, got changed to a Du. Apparently the bike course is under 12 feet of water. So it's a run swim run. This should be interesting. Especiallly since I have to wake up in 5 hours to get ready. 'Night folks.

This is one that I really look forward to reading about.  Run, swim, run will be interesting given that you will have some exertion before you hit the water.  I guess the positive is that the swim start becomes a little more spread out and probably will avoid some of the water boxing.

Ok everyone, I need an opinion.  My wife likes the new picture that I have as my "photo" but I can't decide if the wetsuit portion makes it look like I have my Erkl pants on.

Thoughts?

Congrats Mark on your first Tri. Glad you enjoyed the experience even with the stormy weather.

Way to go Bopper that is an unreal amount of biking in such a short time.

JBD, I think people will assume that the black band is a wetsuit but you never want to assume. Picture looks fine. Keep it.

Gaary, Nice job on your Tri too, have to love swimming indoors.

Thank you guys for your kind words! Yes, it feels great to have finally completed one. I am already making plans for an Oly next year, right now I have Chicago 1/2 mary coming up in 3 wks so have to figure out a way to spend this time train for it. After that I will do some longer bike rides...

Thanks Pollywog.  It is really a girdle, but I just call it a wetsuit.

didn't he post about 2 months ago about taking time off from tri'ing?  i believe he was a bit burned out and decided to try his hand at - oh what's it called when you race bike on track material (velodrome areana I think it's called)....he said he'd be checking CoJ but maybe he forgot about us???  regardless we seem to be doing a good job of supporting each other.

happy training everyone - or in Kevin's case - happy rest day!

Pollywog - 2007-08-15 7:24 PM Carrie, Nice job again. Way to hang in there on the swim. Markz may know of a good pizza place in Chicago for your night before meal...

Yes, great idea - I would suggest Italian Village in downtown for pizza/ pasta meal - it has this Italian mafia style... Carrie, please send me PM if you are interested and if there's anything else I can assist you with while you are in Chicago.

Thanks Markz.  I would hate to deviate from my pre-race meal now....I think my problem isn't the pizza but rather the quantity of pizza.  I aim to only eat a few pizza's then POOF the entire thing is gone.  If you saw you me,  you would wonder where it goes   Mafia style sounds fun

I've been to Chicago once before but didn't really get to experience much & it was cold (christmas time).  I'm hoping I get to at least wander around the city a little this time.  Weather looks good for Sunday, too

Carrie: good luck in Chicago - you will have so much fun and remember this one  forever! I would only suggest to REMEMBER WHERE YOUR BIKE IS, because there will be 7000 of them!

Have fun!!!

Good luck this weekend Carrie... enjoy your Tri and touring of Chicago.

Just a little note ... RELAX during the swim...everything else will take care of themselves.

That's easier said than done, Bopper he he  I have been able to get a few OWS in the river this past week and will get another one today before I leave for Chicago.  I have been doing better!

Thank you.  I'm wondering if my wits will be about me after I get out of this terribly difficult swim in order to actually find my bike.

I don't know if this is legal or not - but how about using a red ballon to mark your bike since there will be so many.  Just a blow up ballon not a helium one, tied onto handle bars or something then as you grab bike have a pin and pop it (pin from race bib)....

Have fun and enjoy the race.  Remember smile for the camera!

Carrie... my thought for that was this.

When you set up transition area... count the number of racks from the swim exit to your bike. WRITE THIS NUMBER ON YOUR HAND IN MARKER. When you come out of the water as you run down the rows, count them and when you get to your rack... you should be able to find your bike easily enough.

Just an idea I had incase I ever get in a REALLY big tri. I've been lucky so far most of the tri's I've been in are small enough that I've been able to run right to my bike with no issues. (I also have an unerring sense of direction - shhhhh don't tell the wife) LOL

X2  - Brilliant idea!  I actually did this last Sunday at PP tri (without writing it down) and put a yellow towel over the handle bars - it works!

As far as the swim - the good news is that you swim out parallel to the shore, so sighting is not a big deal.

Bopper - 2007-08-22 3:58 PM Cathleen's idea is good too... but I've heard many people do the same thing... so it could get confusing.... just a thought.

Oh my, I had a good idea today!  i don't get many of those my kids tell me.

I had a moment last night of what I think is/was sheer terror!  UGH.  I don't think there was a time I was more nervous.  To make it even more of a stressful situation....my flight got canceled last night and now I'm not leaving until  7 pm tonight.  What the heck is going on in the Windy City.  I was watching on the news they thought they had a tornado - trees were pulled from the ground.

I will get there

They always like to make it more dramatic than it really is. Yes, we had a severe thunder storm, lots of rain and some suburbs got more than their share of water and, as always with strong wind some trees got pulled out of the ground and landed on houses/cars...  Right now the city is overcast, slight rain, but shoul all clear up for tomorrow (according to TV). Hope the 7:00 flight is not cancelled... All the adrenaline will help you!

So what was so terrifying?

Hi everyone, hope you all  had a great weekend,

Watching the Chicago tri yesterday WAS AWESOME! It was the biggest tri in the world and what an organization to make sure the 8000+ competitors have a smooth swim, bike, run. Just looking at the transition area with 8000+ bikes and people at various stages of the competition was unreal. First wave took off at 6:00am, I was there at 10:00 and there were people still swimming! (Some looked like they really should't be swimming in the water deeper than to the waist, but anyway...) Some people set up their bikes at 5:00am in the morning and went back home to get some sleep before their wave was scheduled to go! Perfect weather, chance to see the best in the world (Aussies took 1st, 2nd, 4th and 1st female). I guess Carrie had a great time - I'm looking forward to seeing the RR!

Bopper - 2007-08-27 8:30 PM

ok... I'm putting this up for an opinion.

Starting next year... the triathlon organizers of the tri series I've been running in has gotten the rights to put on a Ironman 70.3 event. I NEVER thought I'd be interested in running one of these events... but I am now wondering.

What are the pros... and cons... and can I talk "her who holds the reigns" into allowing me that much training time.... all things that are weighing on me. I am seriously going to wait until after the tri this weekend and see how things go.

Why do we desire to destroy our bodies and push our boundaries? Just putting my questions down... what I will do is still to be decided. Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Funny you mentioned that. Ever since I did the first sprint, the thought of doing 70.3 keeps coming back... For you it's just the run that needs real attention. Swim is not much longer than the Oly, bike for you is a piece of cake, but to run 13miles after those two seems really hard when you just started running after an injury. IMHO, why not make the 2008 the year of the Oly and the next year do the 70.3?

Thank goodness I was out of the water by 10:00 he he  My wave was at 9:06 and I was out of the water by then.  PHEW!!!!

Race is completed!  Overall, this event was a blast for me, my first intl. distance.  It was amazing how many people were involved and how smoothly it all ran.

 RR will be up soon.

Thanks for all of your support everyone
