Thanks Pollywog,

I will check the Roughrider site, thank you for the recommendation. At this point I am thinking Chicago, not only because I live here, but it is an amazing and huge event. The only thing is - it could be really cold and miserable in October, like last year. We were watching it with winter jackets and gloves on, cops were in their cars with heaters on...  it was freezing (sort of like where you are now - amazing weather for beginning of September).

Have a great day everyone!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.  I feel good going into it and I believe I have adequately tapered this week (ie, this has been a lazy week).

Good luck with the OLY this weekend JBD! Have fun! Judging from your log, you tapered for the last 3 weeks.. You should be well rested.

I haven't been the most diligent in using the logs lately but I have cut back some.

Good news of note...

One of my good buddies who is a cycling god (he just qualified for the World Championships in Sydney after he won at Nationals in PA) let me borrow his HED front Tri spoke and back disk.  So while I might go slightly faster, I will look alot cooler.  He claims I will get 3 mph easily out of them, we will see.

Will do, too bad they are on a road bike.

Completed first Oly.  That is about all I did given that I believe I left probably 20 minutes on the course due to an intestinal issue that I encountered at about mile 15 on the bike and still isn't completely gone.  It killed my run (more like a tiptoe in that situation).  Total time that I recorded was 3:06.

The wheels looked great, but the disc was not the right call for all of the uphill climbs at Tugaloo. Next time I would go with tri spoke in front and back.

Overall, a very disheartening performance but hey, I finished

Hey, congratulations!

3:06 doesn't sound bad, in the face of all adversities you did your best. Good lesson for the future re: nutrition... it happens.

BTW, why is the disc not good for the climb? (not that I'm getting one, just curious).

Thanks.

The main reason that the disc didn't work for me is that it was a 9 vs my normal 10 speed and due to compatibility (I needed different crank for it to be perfect), I wasn't able to move into the lowest cog for hill climbing.  Finally, I think that the disc, while more aerodynamic, is heavier that a 3 spoke.   Since I wasn't able to get into my lowest cog, i really lost cadence on the hills and that can be a death nail for the bike and for the run as you fry your legs.  I dont regret using them, because now I know that on a ride with decent hils/long rollers, I probably dont want to go disc.

Hey everyone... one step closer to figuring out my asthma/breathing/hives... apparently i am allergic to much that grows here in Texas - trees, weeds and grass!  Maybe this will inspire my husband to move earlier then we expect to - for the sack of my health.  Now if only my back would stop itching from all the allergy testing they did on Friday....

Hey everyone.  I bucked down and bought a tri specific bike today.  Trek equinox 11 (carbon), dura ace components (except for the front derailler is 105 and the brakes are Ultegra), Oval Concepts A900 tri bars, HED trispoke carbon wheels (aluminum brake surface).  Pretty jazzed, rides like a dream.

thanks Bopper.  I bought it used, and I priced out the parts seperately on ebay.  the bike is an 04 with not many miles so I was able to back into comparable prices on ebay.  I think based on that, I got a really good deal.  I will do a photo shoot this weekend and post so good porn.

Hey, I want a new bike too. I think I'm going to skip the Cyclocross season this year because its going to be to hard to get to Minneapolis area for a race. I'm going to try to stay motivatied to train this fall and winter.

I was the poster boy for the Red River Cyclocross in Moorhead, MN though, I thought it was pretty cool since I'm such a rookie.

Not doing to much training up here in NoDak. I did get the spinning schedule for the fall from our health center in town. No weekend classes till after Thanksgiving. Might try to ride my bike today but I hate riding when its cold outside.

MarkZ, Nice pictures from your trip to Poland in the Album section.

Nice Holloween Tiara! Mila.
