I did a "mock" indoor triathlon last night after work!!! Since I am doing a "real" triathlon on Sunday (3 days) so I did not go all out, just wanted to see what I could do. I am a little sore today, but not too bad. I completed it in 1hr 29min of total time! Swim=300 meters 6 1/2 min, 6 min transition, Bike=10 miles 39 min, 6 min transition, Run 5k (3.2 mile)=32 min for a total of 78 min effort, 12 min of transition. I should be able to cut at least 10 min off bike time and 3 min or more off run, I am happy with swim time. I did not go as fast as I could, I did not want to hurt myself before my race. Sunday SHOULD have better times!!! Is this ok to do so close to a race? Should I do any other workouts or just take it easy till Sunday? Thanks for all the great advise. It's been a great year!!!!!

You should be able to cut time easily from your transition times.  I assume you've practiced those?? If not, there's "free time" to be gained in transition.

Most people do T-2 in less than a minute.  T-1 is a little longer due to wetsuits, drying, helmet, etc etc.

Good luck

I would recommend you take it easy from here on out - my general rule is that I do not do any exercise (swim, bike or run) that is going to make me "sore" for 2-3 weeks before a race. If you are sore today, you won't be completly healed for about 10 days - which means you have compromised your performance on Sunday.

Definetly work on those transisiton times - that is a real easy way to cut your overall time, without working harder.

Good luck,

Dennis

Thanks for the advise. I will take it easy till Sunday. Last night was not really planned, I got to the Y to swim and just did it. I know I will cut time in the bike, on my bike in a real setting, I can easily do an avg of 20-22 for 20+ miles, my run is around 9-10 min/mi. I still happy with the swim. I have practised transitions, but not very much. I took a long time last night to dry off from the pool and to "dry" off from the stationary bike (no fan, it was in a dead air spot). I should be able to do T1 in about 2 min and T2 in about a min. Feeling sore is not the correct word, my calves have a slight twitch every 45 min or so, and other areas feel worked, but not over worked. I feel pretty good and I judge I will have a good race on Sunday!! I expect to finish MOP, but in the top half. I will post a race report when it is over!

congrats on your performance. be sure to take it easy with those sore muscles now! i did a mock tri before each of my races, but did very small distances (200-400 yards, 2-4 miles, 1-3 miles). helps build confidence, speedy transitions, without making your body hurt. that's what the race is for!
