I like drinking seriously watered down Gatorade for my workouts and follow most longer sessions with an Ensure protein shake (yeah, I know. Everyone tells me "Ew, that's what old people drink to gain weight!") for recovery.

Anyway, recently I've been seeing a lot of ads for Accelerade, which sorta looks like Gatorade + protein (what a nifty idea!)...anyone had any experience with it? I'm thinking of trying it, just for fun.

I really like the gatorade endurance premixed but it is hard to find.  I have tried the accelerde but it is expensive.  I just started using Nuun and like it so far.  Not real sweet or expensive and then I drink some Chocolate milk for recovery.  I did 10 mile run on Sat and 60 mile bike on Sunday and legs felt great both days.

While running....usually just water, maybe bring some Gatorade.

Afterwards, I usually go with my own mixture of sugar, water, salt and lemon juice.  Or a glass of 2% milk.

Gatorade for workouts.  I'll stop at a gas station 3 hours into a 6 hour ride and buy 3 more cold pre-mixed bottles.  You can't do that with accelerade.

Dinner or Lunch or Breakfast for recovery.

I have been looking to try Gatorade Enurance Formula but was having a difficult time finding it. I finally found the Safeway store down the street stocks it so I went in to buy some and found it on sale for 10 for $10 for the large quart size bottles. I figured if it worked for me, great, if not the kids would drink it.

So far so good.

I usually have chocolate milk for a recovery drink.

I like the CLIF stuff: electrolyte drink (lemon lime and raspberry) and the recovery drink with vanilla flavor. but I also like chocolate milk and Hammer Gel's Recoverite (subtle citrus). I also dilute the electrolyte stuff much more than the instructions say.

If I'm on the road for a longer ride I'll take only water and (Hammer) gel. That way I can buy/get water on the way to mix with the gel and not worry about running out of the stuff I like. (I don't like Gatorade or any of the other stuff they have at gas stations.)

Regular Gatorade or GE during training
Low-fat chocolate milk for recovery.

If you like weaker flavored/non-syrupy drinks, Accelerade probably isn't for you. I've only ever had the Blue Raspberry flavor, but it's pretty strong. And the consistency is pretty close to soy milk.

They actually do sell premixed accelerade now.  I have seen alot of commercials for it and actually purchased one bottle but it was like $2.50 for 16oz.

Ha, I knew I'd get a lot of different answers on this one...what does Heed taste like? Looked it up online, looks kinda like Gatorade, but I guess without the sugar...?

Thanks for the advice thus far!

to be honest it tasted funny at first but now I like it. I use it cuz I don't get tired of it like I do with G-ade on long rides

yeah, you'll get a lot of different answers. I would recommend tasting as many as possible and using them on long runs/rides to see what works best.

I love the taste of Heed. It's not overly sweet like Gatorate and others. In the "Nutrition" forum there's a thread about Heed and you'll see the various different opinions.

Gatorade and/or Gleukos and nuun (separate bottles) along with gels (e-gels or carbboom) for long rides. Nuun and gels on long runs.

I like to eat real food for recovery. For the occasions that real food isn't an option I'll use Power Bar's recovery drink. It has a very mild taste.

I've been using Accelerade, but have lately been experimenting with mixing fruit punch flavored Accelerade w/fruit punch flavored gatorade (about 12 oz Accelerade: 8 oz. Gatorade). This mix seems to work pretty well for me. Full strength Accelerade seems to cause me a small amount of stomach cramping, but mixed with the gatorade, it doesn't seem to be an issue. Probably the protein content is too high for me in straight accelerade.....

Post-workout I'll finish off any left over accelerade/gatorade mix, and maybe go for a good ol' glass of chocolate milk (along with some real food).

Gu2O.  (Doesn't hurt that I'm "sponsored" by them).

22 oz. bottle gets three scoops of Gu2O and 2 scoops of Endurolyte powder.  16 oz. bottle is 2 scoops of Gu2O and one of Endurolytes.

I like it because it is not too sweet and seems to work really well for me.

I don't do anything for recovery at the moment other than eat as soon as possible and drink whatever I can get my hands on (quite often that is a Vitamin Water).

They actually have a "plain" flavor that I used in an ultra that tasted just like water.

I love Vitamin Water - not too sweet. Also, tried Cytomax (red) this weekend, and liked it, but it was a bit too sweet for me - it could use being watered down (IMO). I dislike Gatorade because it is too sugary - that's my 2 cents.

I use a custom formula from Infinit Nutrition for training and raceday. When I'm on workouts over 3 hours or or race day, I add Carbopro to my nutrition bottle as well.

For recovery, I mix to scoops of Carbopro, one scoop of whey protein isolate, a teaspoon of glutamine, and about 12 ounces of orange juice. It's very tasty, and I get the 4:1 carb to protein ratio. When I get tired of orange, I just use something else like Acai' or blueberry juice.

I've been using Nuun and really like the flavors, other than cola. The added bonus is that when it spills out of my aero-bottle when i hit a bump in the road, it's not sticky like other sports drinks would be. For recovery any real food, because by the time I am done the thought of anything artificial makes me gag.

Gu2O for me too. Have been using Gatorade, but too sweet even watered down, so like the OP thought I'd try something new and Gu2O is readily available in town. Never thought of adding Endurolyte.. might have to try it!

Try buying Gatorade Endurence in the powder and mix it yourself so you can control the concentration. Regulat Gatorade is horribe and is loaded with High fructose corn syrup. I bring in protien as part of my recovery drink of milk, whey protien powder, and fruit.
