Expert 683 Fort Worth, Texas | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY "Some Like It Hot" 07/25//2007 weighin Congrats on the HIM. No change from last week - 196.6, although (you knew there'd be something), I've been steadily gaining since Sunday's big workout which had me at 191 Sunday night. I've got another, even longer combo planned for Sunday, if the timing works out. Good day. |

Expert 1022 In limbo | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY "Some Like It Hot" 07/25//2007 weighin Startingtotri: Congrats on the HIM!! That is so freakin cool! Can't wait to read the race report/novel! (it's been a busy week, but I'm determined to find time sometime.) Ultramike: Congrats on losing 50lbs! Amazing! Last: 210.4 Today: 207.2 I seem to have my body trained to drop an extra pound so my wednesday number can look good! I've been low 208's all week and then bam, 207! lol I had a very entertaining conversation w/my mom the other day....she's been constantly bugging me about my weight for years, so a couple of years ago I told her that I refuse to discuss anything related to weight or size with her. Now that I've started losing weight, I've told her my loss numbers (that seems to make her happier than anything else going on in my life) but I still don't tell her my actual weight or anything. Well the other day we were talking about goal weights and I figured I had told her enough for her to be able to do the math anyway so I told her my actual weight. Her response: "Oh wow!!!" (not in a good way! more of a how can anyone weigh that much way) and then after a pause, "really???? wow...." Gee thanks mom! lol I guess I should go back to just telling her how much I've lost.... Expert 853 Fort Worth, Texas | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY "Some Like It Hot" 07/25//2007 weighin Well I don't have a weight to report since I forgot to weigh in before my ungodly early work out this morning. I met a group of women at 5 am for a 5 mile run and then a 30 min circuit workout. Don't ask me what has come over me, this working out stuff is just getting to be craziness. Anyhow, I forgot to weigh in when I left my house at 4:45 am although I probably couldn't have read the numbers at that hour since I was trying to keep the lights off so that db could get his beauty rest. I will report back tomorrow with my weight. Startinto tri - Congrats on your accomplishments of completing your first HIM. I just made reservations in Austin today for my first HIM next October. I am getting a little nervous. Willow - Good luck with the half mary training! Lil T - I can TOTALLY relate to your relationship with your mom. I sounds so familiar! I think that I have had times in my life when I gained weight just to spite her. Now I am a mom and it is so scary that I feel like I can actually relate to her concern about me being overweight. I have 2 daughters and I am trying so hard not to let weight be an issue for them, but my 8 year old is already weighing herself as she sees db and I weigh in every day. You are doing AWESOME on your weight loss. Just go back to telling your mom about your losses or maybe not even talking about weight with her.

MissCullen - keep it up and we take whatever weight from the week you want to report! Oh and I almost forgot, BRIAN - what is up, have you been raiding the cookie jar? |

I sounds so familiar! I think that I have had times in my life when I gained weight just to spite her. Haha that's how I ended up so big! My mom was constantly nagging me to lose weight, so in my rebellious teenager phase I quit doing anything physical and ate a TON! Everything my mom said not to eat I ate in huge amounts. It does seem to be a mom thing...lots of other women I know have said the same thing about their moms. Hopefully your daughters will pick up your healthy habits so it won't be an issue for them. Speaking of which....very impressive on the whole working out at 5am thing....i haven't gotten that hardcore yet! Sappho: Is it really true?? A loss??? Really??? Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!! Glad to hear you've had a good week! |

I just made reservations in Austin today for my first HIM next October. I am getting a little nervous. Thanks for the props, everyone! I'm just glad to have it done and over with. Texmom, you'll do great! I found out - it's all about just executing the plan to get there. If you do the training, race day will be easy (relatively speaking, of course!). I was much more nervous most of the way through my training than I was on race day. |

Expert 853 Fort Worth, Texas | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY "Some Like It Hot" 07/25//2007 weighin Last week: 159.2 This week: 161.0, well last week I was coming off a stomach bug and figured it would go back up a bit. However I was hoping it wasn't going to go back that much. My problem is that I just can't figure out how to make sure I eat enough for my HIM training and still have a bit of a calorie deficit to lose a little. Laura, any suggestions?? I just don't have the time or energy to track every bite I eat which I obviously know would help greatly. The one thing that concerns me is that if I am paying such close attention and just managing to maintain, what would happen if I stopped trying at all? Anyhow, hope to post a loss next week! Thanks for all the support from Team Skinny! |

The one thing that concerns me is that if I am paying such close attention and just managing to maintain, what would happen if I stopped trying at all? You're not going to like my answer.... I logged all my food for awhile. I wasn't losing weight, and finally figured out that I wasn't eating enough. After being diligent about logging for about 3 weeks, I've also found that I don't have to log now to have a pretty good idea of how much I need to eat and how much I've already taken in during the day. I haven't logged for months, but have (mostly) maintained the 135 that I've been at for awhile now. but - I needed the initial logging to force me to understand where I was going wrong. To figure out (ballpark figure) what I needed to take in on a base level (meaning to me, a day when I don't train), I used the Harris-Benedict (?) formula. And then use a very rough, 100 cal per mile run, or 100 cal per 10 minutes of training to determine how much extra I need on days when I work out. Found that on days when I worked out, I could short a little pretty easily to create a calorie deficit, but recovery days I usually ate my full calorie allowance. YMMV. This has worked for me as long as I'm conscientiously about what I'm eating, at least about 85% of the time. |

Master 2629 brummie land | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY "Some Like It Hot" 07/25//2007 weighin hey all thanks for the congrats. very encouraging. i had a cheat night tonight: beer, choc and cheese on my chilli spud. but i did walk for an hour. tomorrow is my swim clubs fundraiser so a few beers but i'll be eating healthily all day. then saturday is beer and curry but again healthy before. one thing i am learning about myself is that because i am treating at night doesn't mean i have to eat like a PIG all day! today i avoided birthday cakes from one of my favourite bakers. funny feeling next week may be a maintain but we'll see. good news also: started a full-time job which, though hampering my longer training rides, means i am bike commuting most if not all days.
right i'll stop wittering and go sleep. |

OK, this logging what you are eating seems to be a reoccurring theme so I am going to try it starting 8/1. I am just going to start writing down everything I eat in my log. I tried calculating all the calories before and that just drove me nuts. |

Champion 5807 Henderson NV | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY "Some Like It Hot" 07/25//2007 weighin I just realized I dropped the ball. Sorry gang. No real excuses, but my wife is taking care of her father (heart surgery Last Mon) & Mother (hip surgery and can't really walk). Then there is the broken foot my wife managed last week, so she is on crutches. Leaving me with the 5 & 7 year old girls and shopping and cleaning (sort of), cooking (yeah right, clif bars and protein drink). Oh yeah, I also have that little job thing. I promise I will get back on track. I am thinking of the next challenge and will let ya'll know tomorrow.
