At about 6'1" and 179 lbs, I'm not what anyone would call anorexic, but I've lost about 6 or 8 pounds in the past year and I don't really want to get much thinner. My pants are already too droopy; it's like my butt fell off. Yes, I'm training more than I have in the past, but geez, the giant cookies and ice cream cones I treat myself to, not the mention the 6-bone racks of ribs and 22-oz stouts, ought to keep me well ballasted.

Yeah, yeah, I know; not the worst problem to have. But I'm just curious, anyone else out there in BT-land trying unsuccessfully to keep the weight on?

I'm not anymore. I hit my goal weight at the beginning of the summer after having a baby in December. I've dropped 5 more pounds by simply training a lot and eating healthy. But I think I"m starting to look too skinny. My arms look like noodles in my race pics from this weekend! I haven't been weight training all summer because I didn't have time, but now that my tri season is over, I'm going to hit the weights a more. I want to look athletic and healthy, not like a scrawny string bean! I'm not one of those women who thinks super skinny is attractive.

yeah, nice problem to have. I don't dare complain about it to anyone but dh, because I'd get an eye roll from my friends and family for sure.

I haven't gained weight in years. As long as you eat right and feel good don't worry about it. For me to gain I need to lift weights.

Since I started this tri training in Jan, I've gone from roughly 220 down to 178 (I'm 6'2". Fortunately, my weight has leveled off and I've been at my current weight for a few months. I defintely don't want to lose more (none of my freaking clothes fit me).  My original goal was to get to 200 or even 195. I'm not depriving myself of anything (other than fast food).

I really hope I don't lose more - - but I feel great.

I've gone from 195 or so at my heaviest in January of 2006 to 174 as of this morning. I was stuck on 180 for several months, and just recently dropped below 180 for the first time since college. I have to figure it's going to level off pretty soon. I'd be satisfied if I didn't go any lower than where I am now, but I'm not going to stop doing what I've been doing.

  • Agreed. Some muscles and curvlature looks good on a girl. And for a mom with six boys under the age of 10, my hat's off to you!

I'm 5' 8'' and if I lost any more weight, I'd be invisible when I turned sideways!

I'm 6,1 and went from 175 to 167 over the last ~5 months. Before that drop I'd starting actually putting on weight from lifting. I don't really want to lose much more, but I'm ok where I'm at now. And yes, I eat pretty badly, or well depending on how you look at it, too.

I'm 6'6" and my weight fluctuates between 180 and 185. That's as low as I want to be, but I have to be careful when I'm doing a lot of easy & endurance paced training because my appetite doesn't always align with my caloric expenditure, and I end up dropping into the 170's.

I'm in the same boat. I'm 6'0" and when I started tries 2 years ago I was 182 and now I'm 165. Everyone tells me I look skinny and I don't want to lose any more weight. I used to lift a lot more weights but haven't done it a lot during the season. I've lost a lot of my muscle mass on my upper body and will spend some more time to get it back. That said, I've also lost that little spare tire around my waste.

It's a fine balancing act as I want to continue to be competitive and need to keep tri specific training up, but I don't want to lose all my upper body tone.

I used to be like you and then I started higher volume training for a HIM.  My appetite was nonstop, so I ate everything I saw.  And gained about 4 pounds despite my 12-14 hour training weeks  (which is a lot of weight when you are 5 feet tall).  I've just about reversed that gain, but honestly for me it seems to be hard to manage my appetite with any training weeks over 9-10 hours.

Try some protein shakes and more lean meats and fish instead of beer and ice cream. Carb counters will pounce on me here, but supplement your diet with pasta and rice. Find a balance though. Try and get away from a lot of high fat food like ribs and ice cream and eat more protein and you will probably add lean muscle mass. Enjoy your treats though. Just remember that it is a treat and not a supplement to your diet. This seems to work for me because if I don't eat more when I ramp up my training, particularly cycling, I tend to lose weight too.
