I'm confused too. I just did a search and looked at about a dozen races across the country for both international and Olympic distances. They all had the same lengths. 1.5k, 40k, 10k. I even went to the ITU page and Olympic.org page for definitions – both the same.

The only difference I saw was ITU allows for up to 5% variance in the lengths for the bike and run.

ANYWAY - My longest is an Olympic/International. An HIM and IM or in my future......

I'll finally be able to reply to this five days from now...

(My wave start at Malibu this Sunday: 7:50am...my wife gets to wait around to go out in the very last wave for her first tri, poor thing, at 8:20...at least I know I'll be able to get my camera and get back to the finish line before she crosses it...)

Ditto.  I'll do my first marathon (likely) this coming winter in a warm, southern place, but do NOT see an Ironman in my future.  It's just somehow excessive for my liking.  Half-Iron distance seems just right for a real challenge without crippling me for a week or two.

Started in 02 with relays then mini sprints. Did my first half ironman in 05, followed by an Olympic (backwards was I). Never really even dreamed of ironman until the day before I signed up for Ironman Florida. I finished that last November. I have only done sprints this year.
