Subject: Question about active.com registration for 2008 IM FL
I apologize for another thread on this topic, but online registration is this weekend and I am getting very antsy. I hope by starting a new thread some generous poster will respond to my question before this weekend.

When I search for Ironman Florida in the active.com events, the race does not show up - presumably because registration is not open. I have an active account and I will log in at 10:45ish on Sunday morning (registration day). Will the race show up on the list of events when registration opens? Do I keep refreshing the page of the list of events waiting for Ironman Florida to make the list?

Thanks very much for your time. Most importantly, good luck to all who are competing this weekend.

Yes and yes.  Log on at that time and then refresh until it comes up.

I was told by Melody Givens at "central" that registration doesn't open up until 12 noon Central Time. Is this not the case? email below

Nov. 1st, and Panama city is Central time zone and it will open up 12noon PC time zone.

Thank you both very much. Looks like I will log into active.com at 12:45 EST and start hitting refresh page. Sounds like fun.

Also...you may get a message on the active.com registration page that will declare the race is "sold out". This happened to me when I was getting ready to register for Lake Placid this summer.  If this happens just prior to the time the race opens for on-line registration, disregard it and continue to hit refresh and you will eventually get the registration form. It worked for me

I'm confused. From the IMFL entry webpage:

* Athletes registered for the current year’s event can register for the following year’s event on the Friday before the race.
* Athletes can only register themselves.
* Registration will be from 9-11 AM. This timeframe will be for athletes only, so they don’t have to worry about the next year’s registration or stand in line after having raced.
* Day after registration will be only for people to register themselves, they will not be allowed to register a friend at all at any NAS events in the future. Anyone can register themselves at this time.
* Whatever is left for general entry will be done via Active.com usually opening at 12 PM local race site time.

I'm interepreting this as those participating for this years race were able to register yesterday for next years race.

And the third and fourth bullet, registration for everyone else should be today and an hour and 20 minutes ago (as of this posting, it's 1:20PM local time @Florida).

-ak- (hitting refresh @active.com every minute for the past 30 minutes!)

"day after" registration means the day after the race, not the day after 2007 athletes get to sign up for 2008.

you can keep hitting refresh but you're gonna be there a while!

This is the comment that interests me.  Considering how quickly IMUSA & IMWI sold out because so many were onsite to register, I wonder how long it will be until there are no slots left for these races & IMFL online.

Should be better. Before, people could register themselves AND their friends.  Now, you can only register yourself.  Should be alot more online slots available.

The IM Florida organizers are apparently not optimistic about the number of slots available for online registration. This message went up on the IM Florida website last night:

"Ironman Florida 2008 online registration will open at 12:00 noon local race site time on November 4, 2007 ONLY IF there are general entry spots left after all on-stie entries are taken. There are expected to be very few, if any, and those will sell out within minutes online."

I still plan to try to register online, but I am now looking at alternate full IMs for 2008.

I think it is pretty clear that another fall IM in the US would be a big hit for the IM series. Athletes want a fall race so they have all season to train and cool race temperatures.

Seems NA Sports does not agree.  I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Meanwhile Beach2Battleship will run on the same day next year.  New race (1/2 & full) but from an established race promoter.

This whole thing upsets me. i went to bed after a short 5 miles run with this on my mind, an now here i am headed to church with this as a prayer request, and then I realize how many this effects.

it is rediculous to me in a way, great that there is such a high demand (it shows U.S. fitness) and almost demotivating that we may not get in.

It's just upsetting!!!

thank you for letting me vent. hahhahha like you had a choice.. ;-)

You are right. This is ridiculous. I sent a note by email to the Western Wall in Jerusalem praying that I get in.

If you don't get into IM Florida (and it looks like most of us won't), don't throw in the towel. Trifind.com lists dozens of other full ironman tris - Great Floridian, Beach2Battleship, etc.

I registered today.  I'd say 500 people minimum (it could have been more but I'd say less than 1000 for sure).  This doesn't count the number that did the race that had the option to do it on Friday.
