Subject: Firstnet911's Group- Closed with a great group

NAME: Firstnet911/ Craig

STORY: I began running 2.5 years ago when I realized I was out of shape with a few health problems. After running my first 5K I was hooked. A few weeks later I received a spam email from Active.com about an upcomming sprint triatholon and figured "What the heck", I can do that.
I arrived the day before for packet pick up and was overwhelmed by the fit people with the expensive biks- wow..I was really out of place and intimidated. Thankfully, other racers were great and helped me learn what I needed to survive the race.

I hated the entire race because it hurt- right until the finishing arch with the cheering crowds and loud music. All I remember as I finished was when's the next one. To say I was hooked was an understatement.

Over the last 2 years I have met AWESOME people through triathlon and through BT, lost 30ish pounds and became and Inroman finisher. Without the support of my BT friends and their inspires, calls, and support, I would have never kept going in this sport.

FAMILY STATUS: Divorced with two children: 9 and 11 years old

CURRENT TRAINING: I enjoy training, and train as much as I can without completely interfering with other areas in my life.  (Kids, 2 jobs, house stuff ect). Most of my training is done solo due to time and schedule constraints. However, from time to time I train with the local BT tri group.

2008 plans include 2 marathons and another round at IMWI.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: 2007 races were focused on Moo and only included a few sprints/oly's and one HIM.

2008 RACES:  Trailbreaker marathon in spring, a few sprints with friends, Highcliff HIM in June, IMWI in September and the Marine Corps Marathon in October.

WEIGHTLOSS: Started this journey at 210- currently in the 180's

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTOR: I believe the greatest thing about Triathlon is the poeple. The more we can encourage new faces into this sport, the better it is for all.

Although I'm not fast, I make up for it with desire and encouragemet. The only reason I'm where I'm at is because of BT and the help, support, and advise from the online tri community. I'd love to be able to give back and help others as they begin their journey.

Well if Craig will let there be fellow Donkey in the group I would like to join.

Name: sgoehner/Scott Goehner

Story: Signed up for a local sprint last year after I had been doing a little running. Main goal was to finish. Well, kinda like Craig, I finished and couldn't wait to do the next one. Found out about BT just before that race and have been hanging around here since. Ever since I started this year I have loved everything about it. I finished the year doing 3 sprints, and one 5K actually finishing 2nd in my AG(25-29) in one of the sprints.

Family Status: Married with one dog, no kids.

Training. I try to get in as much training as possible while working a full time job and having a social life as well. Going to have to start ramping it up after the first of the year for my first HIM.

2008 Races: Lake Mills Sprint, High Cliff HIM, Pewaukee Sprint, Oshkosh Oly, maybe 1 or 2 more.

Have a dream of doing IMMOO in 2009.

Thanks dude. I am really looking forward to High Cliff. For some reason I got nervous about it the other day. I was REALLY worried about the run as I had nver run more than 5.72 miles at once this year until today when I hit 7.29. Today gave me a little more assurance as I felt like I could have kept going, but I didn't have an gel or anything.

I'd like to join. My first tri will be this summer. I'm your basic nonathlete, wanting to get fit. I seem to go in spurts with my exercise. Having a mentor and group will be a great way to focus.

I look forward to getting acquainted and getting in shape!

Mary,

Welcome to the group. There is plenty of time to get you ready for your first Tri. Let me warn you..after your first race you may become addicted.  It's been known to happen.

I'd like to join.

Name: Lrunfit/Lisa

Sports: I am not a triathalete yet... I am a long distance runner (won the women's lake geneva half mary this year), group exercise/spin/strength instructor as well as a dedicated mom to twin 4 1/2 year olds - that is a sport in and of itself.

I live in Waukesha, WI and actually run occasionally with a couple of your fellow donkeys.

Training right now: Lots of Spin and strength training - trying to run 20-25 miles a week either indoors or out if possible. Rest of training time on Ellipitical. My main goal is to stay healthy and to try to keep running through the winter. Never had a problem before but this year seems to be a bit different.

Hopefully I can be a helpful member of this group.

Welcome to the group. I've seen your run times and admired your speed.

Have you decided which race will be your first?

I'm not sure yet. Probably Lake Geneva again unless something comes up sooner. I would love to do trailbreaker again (I did it 3 years ago) but since then I have always been out of town.

I am pondering whether or not I want to try a full marathon instead of just halfs. Half is the perfect distance for me though...

Jim Webs and and I are looking at the Trailbreaker full marathon. Care to join in the madness?

I think Lake Geneva has multiple distances.  Are you looking at the sprint or the half?

High Cliff in late June is a great race as well and quite a few BT'ers will be there.

Hi, Craig.

My name is Phil, and had a blast doing IM Moo '07 witcha!.  I like to be an azz sometimes and give you shat.  I'm looking at doing a few bike rides and/or BRICKs this summer witcha to help you prepare for Moo #2 (you crazy dawg/azz!).  We'll watch out for your GI problems and I'll promise to not bring my Kona friend on those long days!

I'm doing the November swim challenge this month, along with an abs/pushups challenge that is heavy-duty busting my upper body!

I have planned to do the Madison Marathon this May and the Spirit of Racine 1/2 Tri in July (my "A" race this year, and already registered).

We be later talkin', fellow Donk!

When is Trailbreaker? I think I am in CA during it that seems to be where I always am. I am thinking halfs until I can muster it up for a full. If I decide to do a full I will have to have a training partner for sure. When and what is High cliff?

High Cliff HIM, High Cliff HIM, High Cliff HIM, everyone say it with me now. High Cliff HIM.  Seriously, I don't know what is going on in my head, but I have been thinking a lot about this race and it is 6 months and 10 days out, but whose counting.  I am trying to recover from my run on Monday and it was only half of the 1/2 Mary, I have a long ways to go.

Lisa,

I think you will easily be able to get a BT relay for the half. Just don't let FirstTimeTri take the swim leg

Trailbreaker is a small race with limited crowd support. It starts at Frame park and goes out the Glaical Drumland trail.

Lasy year there was a good BT presence at both- lots of fun was had by all.

I am improving!  Swimming and me need to keep working together.  Now, running on the other hand, no problems there.

Hi! I don't know if it too late to join this group. I recently found BT and think it is just a great resource.

Anyhow, here is a little bit about myself:

I live in Brown Deer, am 33 and a stay at home mom and photographer. I have a 4 year old and soon to be 3 year old.

I did my first half marathon(Madison) last year and then my first sprint tri(Danskin) and a few 5ks and 15ks. I participated in two training programs for the Danskin and then the Pleasant Prairie triathlon.

I love to train. I am hooked. I have never considered myself an athlete, just athletic. I am addicted to my bike and very excited that santa came early with a new trainer! I spin a few times a week, was swimming regularly(I need to get back in the pool), run a few times each week and have really been working on weight training.

I am not fast and still need to lose a little weight. I would love to be part of a group and look forward to training logs. I have been terrible about keeping mine up to date lately.

I am planning on the Madison half again and would really love to do a half iron-maybe Racine. I don't know if I am setting my hopes to high! I also would like to try a couple different olympic distances!

Thanks so much!

Kelly

Kelly,
Welcome to the group!

I completely understand about being hooked. Many of us became addicted to fitness in our 30s and even 40's and really enjoy it.

It sounds like you are building a good base over the winter and there is plently of time to get ready for Racine, but an oly sounds like a good steping stone.

The HIM distance is a great blend of fitness and pacing, but nutrition becomes key in finishing. I learned that the hard way last year

Welcome to the madness.
