My turn ...

GOAL 1:
This is my training sched for the week:
Mon - Cardio class, Spin with tri club
Tues - run 8K (easy), yoga at studio
Wed (work) - hill repeats, swim 30 min
Thurs (work) - run 40 min (mod)
Fri (work) - bike/run brick (tentative - might go for lunch that day with co-workers)
Sat - run 10K (easy)
Sun - Group Fit class
(Monday's my Off Day)

So that's 4 or maybe 5 runs ... not too shabby - gotta build up for that relay in June!

BALANCE! I wish I knew where to start! My goal for balance this week is to not let myself get overwhelmed then stressed out about everything I have on my plate right now (work, school, setting up the business, classes, financial issues, injuries, the chores that aren't getting done around the house, etc) and just take things one thing at a time - one step at a time. I'm trying to focus only on the next step - not on everything that needs to be done for the end result. One .. step .. at .. a .. time. ;-)

My turn:

Goal 1: Run-My running goal this week is to get in 3 runs and challenge myself during each.

Goal 2: Balance-My goal is to meditate twice this week and sit down for tea 3 times this week and not worry about midterms or anything else.

Jenn I hear you with meditation and tea ... there's something about the two that are so grounding and stabilizing.

Since I've moved to Victoria I have discovered this AMAZING tea place (www.silkroadtea.com) and drinking tea now has turned into a whole routine - a very relaxing part of my day. I miss having time for it regularly.

Can I re-do my goals? Can I copy Jenni and make tea-time part of my goal? I'd like to relax with perfectly brewed Silk Road tea at least twice this week. Good call. ;-)

Glad that you all jumped on the challenge bandwagon! Be ready to post a mid-week update on Thursday.

I echo enjoying a good tea! I have some really great chai that I love sipping on in the evening to unwind.

I've made all my work-outs this week except for one, which I plan to make up tomorrow morning - so I'll be at 100%! ... although I have had no tea dates with myself, I just haven't had the time. I need to find the time. Maybe Saturday.

Goal #1: 40k

Goal #2: Getting a little personal, I want to start being more focused on the positives in my life. My goal is to write out something that I am grateful everyday.

Setting out for 10k or so today, my first run of the week, so not even close to my goal.

Gratitude journal - I'm 6 for 6!

Way to go Bopper!

As soon as my mp3 is charged I'm heading out the door for my 10K run ... silly me I've been in front of the computer for 6 hours this morning doing schoolwork, only now did I realize I need to charge the toy. Oops. ;-)

Once my run is in today, I have gone 8 for 9 workouts. I missed my 8K run on Tuesday, and didn't make it up. I think 89% is not too shabby.

I haven't had any tea though - just haven't been able to make time for that. I'm feeling much more stress-free this week, my goal of focusing only on one thing at a time is really helping me not get overwhelmed with stuff.

I got i all 3 runs, 2 meditation sessions, but only 2 sit downs to tea. Perhaps I'll have a sit down this afternoon

Whatever the challenge is ... I have a race on Sunday, and this week is a recovery/easy week ... just a few runs planned, nothing strenous.

So perhaps my challenge will be to drink tea. ;-)

This Week's Challenge:

Same as last week except let's swim!

Goal #1: THE SWIM.
Figure out a a measurable goal for yourself. Workouts can be measured weekly by the number of workouts, total distance, or total time. At the end, progress is measured as a percentage by your actual number/goal number.

Goal #2: BALANCE.
How about a goal for the week related to nutrition, self-care, balance, mental health, or anything else that you might want to work on daily during the week? We all have real lives so doing something that can make our day better will certainly compliment our training.

Was sick last week so missed my run targets, and, well, all my targets. C'est la vie. On to this week's business...

Goal #1: 3 swims this week (already did one today!)

Goal #2: Strength train 3 times. I started the simplefit program - pull-ups, push-ups and squats..oh my!

Play my guitar at least twice this week. I've been neglecting it lately.

I only have one swim planned this week - 30 minutes easy laps. It's a recovery week for me, with 3 easy runs, one yoga class, one cardio class, and two off-days built in. I'm also getting company this weekend.

But for balance - I'd like to have two tea-dates with myself and spend at least three hours working in the yard. That's the short spoke in my wheel these days - the yard work is really falling behind.

I'm going to follow your lead and turn the tv off, and sit in my reading chair with some light music and read, with some tea of course!

Yard work?? I have two feet of snow in mine! I'm actually jealous that I don't have yard work to do. Can you tell that I'm getting tired of winter?

That's awesome Jenn! The guitar...what style/genre of music do you play? I took classical lessons for years while growing up. I hated it most of the time (it was Dad's idea) because I totally don't have a musical ear.

Mid week update:

Swim: So far 600 yds, only need 200 more now.

Guitar: Played Monday, need one more session. Hopefully tomorrow.

I'm just learing to play the guitar so all I play so far are very elementry things. I got an acoustic/electric for Christmas. I'd like to learn to play jazz and blues after I get the basics down.

Oh I'm sad that you're sad!

You and Marina keep telling me that we all have "off" days, and "off" workouts - where things just don't go according to plan and as we'd like them. It's normal, right?

Take the advice you keep giving the rest of us - listen to your body and do what you need to do to keep yourself healthy and happy ... so don't stress about taking a day off or missing a workout.

And talking about the life balance - believe me I know! It's not easy, but you taught me to consider mental discipline as a part of my training, and to look at every challenge (even if not tri related) as a new way of training.

Don't apologize for being human, and you've been a good mentor! You've really helped me, anyway. ;-)
