Subject: RE: When do I start my 1/2 IM training plan Ahh..misread. Yes, Alcatraz is an oly. If Alcatraz is 2 months before the HIM, load up the HIM plan to end with the HIM (Boulder Long). A week before Alcatraz you can modify the HIM training for a decent taper, get rid of workouts that week of similiar in length to your race...eliminate longer workouts (if you want it to truly be an A race). You will probably need several days of recovery if you race as an A race then mid week after the race, get back into the regular HIM plan - though you may have to gradually ease into it depending on how tired you may be. Watch out for long run/bike volume jumps as with an A race taper for Alcatraz, it may be 1.5-2 weeks since you did any 'long' sessions when you get back into the full HIM plan a week later. Or better yet, make Alcatraz a B/C race, race it very easy and you should be able to keep important HIM long sessions the week of the race and simply eliminate some short/medium sessions that correspond to race lenghth. Of course take the day or two before the race off. |
