Hi Aaron!  I was wondering if I would be able to join your group... I could definitely use some motivation!  Here is my background info:

 

NAME: Amber

STORY: I'm 25 years old and I became serious about running/working out in 2007.  I had run in a few races before I never took it seriously.  I am looking to participate in my first dualthon this year and hoping to build up enough endurance in the pool to participate in an '09 triathlon.

FAMILY STATUS: I have a great boyfriend.


CURRENT TRAINING: My race schedule is pretty spread out so I have plenty of time to train and rest in between each one.  I am currently running 3x per week but I need to motivate myself to cycle 2x per week (especially when my dualthon training starts) and swim 2x per week.


THIS YEAR'S RACES: I completed the VA Beach 1/2 Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon, and over a dozen 5 and 10Ks.  I also participated in the Richmond Muddy Buddy (an 'adventure' dualthon).


2008 RACES:  I will be racing in the Raleigh Rocks 1/2 Marathon (April), F.O.R.D Dualthon (June), Muddy Buddy (July), VA Beach 1/2 Marathon (September), and the Marine Corps Marathon (October).

WEIGHTLOSS: This is going to sound funny but I actually need to put weight on.  My metabolism has sky rocketed since I seriously started working out (even though I always eat like a pig!).

STORY: 29 Year old going into my 3rd year of Triathlon. Last Year attempted 07 IMAZ and DNF Medical. I then only raced one more last season. large background in weight training which in this sport is a personal choice also considered pro golf many years ago

FAMILY STATUS:I I have a wonderful Fiance whom I will marry this year and she has a great 4 year old


CURRENT TRAINING: I have 43 week schedule that officially starts tomorrow. Initially a 6 day a week schedule with three bike and run with two swims and in the summer a third swim session will be added. I did have a coach the first two years but I am now using an adapted plan out of the Book be iron fit.


THIS YEAR'S RACES:DNF Imaz and hometown sprint


2008 RACES:  My A race is IMFL. I will do the Atomic Half to lead up to it. I will also be doing Memphis in May(OLY), Mach Tenn Sprint, Mcminnville(Sprint), Chatanooga(OLY), Monster(sprint). And I may add a few more as well still in the works

WEIGHTLOSS: My goal is to lose 70 pounds between now and the end of the year. My main reason is of course health and speed the other to help motivate me more my fiance will buy me up to 5K worth of bike if I can do this. So lots of other motivation.

Hey-- I would love to join this group!

I am a 41 year old married mom of two, and am very lucky to have a supportive husband. I came to exercise/training late in life (like around 36 yrs old) and trained for and completed my first tris (sprints) in 2006.  I trained off and on in 2007, but had both health and family problems that interfered with my training and I didn't do any tris last year.

I really enjoy the training and the way it makes me look and feel, so with the medical all-clear, I am ready to start up again. I would do much better if I were a part of a group-- accountability, the benefit of a group's training experience and just general support!

 I am currently planning  June, July and September Sprint distance races, and am starting with the 4-7 hr Winter Maintenance plan.  I just started a new 40 hr/week job (after working part time from home for 10 years!) and am going through some time-management adjustments with that.

I hope to lose about 10% body fat (and go from a current wieght of 155 to a race weight closer to 145) and stay injury free.  Other than that, I'm just looking forward to a healthy winter and a fun season!

STORY: I'm almost 43, & live in Tacoma. I had a health scare last Mother's Day that turned out to be nothing, but motivated me to get into shape.

FAMILY STATUS: I'm married with a 4 year old son. 
 
CURRENT TRAINING:I train as often as my crazy schedule will permit. I have been going to the gym as often as possible lately. I'm currently battling lower leg problems that I'm starting to think might be a stress fracture. I work a rotating shift & spend a lot of time with my son.

2007 RACES: I Ran a 5K 2 minutes faster than my goal.

2008 RACES:  I plan on competing in 2 sprints & 2 running events this year.

WEIGHTLOSS: I lost 35lbs last year, gained 10lbs back after Thanksgiving, but have since lost the extra weight.

I would love to join this group. I am unconventional, but dedicated. It would be tough for me to impliment a training program & frankly I'm just looking to get my feet wet this year & put my injuries behind me.

I ordered a wet suit today http://www.gearandtraining.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID... , the price was good & I need one to compete around these parts. I have a coworker who lives on a lake that should be ideal for training.

I'm trying to get all my gear this year, but won't be able to get a road bike till this fall when everything goes on clearence again. I'll have to continue on my 12 year old MTB. That's the main reason I'm sticking to sprints this year.

Speaking of calorie watching, I use FitDay. I took 2 weeks off after Thanksgiving & gained 10lbs. I had a Nutrionist set up my diet & consider it the most important component of my regiment.

I looks like my first Tri will be June 14th, I'll register next Friday to make it official.

Aaron I would like to join your group. I am very new to training for this(today was day #1).

Here is a basic description that I had posted on another forum page:

Ok so I have decided that triathalon training would be a good addition to my life and to my quest for weightloss. But I thought I would just put out here where I am at and what I am trying to do just to make sure I am on the right track and if anyone has any advice.

So I am 5'9" and about 235lbs. I am trying to get down to 180-190 area. I have been working out but I decided the best starting point for a training program would be the Michael Pates Total Sprint Program would be a good starting point. In addition to these work outs I am also doing training in karate. The one obsticle in this is that I do karate 2 days a week for 2 hours. So I am really hoping that I am going to overload myself. So on the days I have karate I am waking up early and doing the tri training in the morning before work(long long days).

As far as gear, I really don't have much. I have a Trek 820 mountain bike that I will have to make due with for a little bit because my wife said I have to do 2 races before I can do any updates. I am going to try to get her to ok new wheels and pedals though just to make things a little easier.

I am planning to do 2 sprints(one in June and one is Aug) and hopefully one oly in Aug.

Yep you can sign up for FL catcher and I will cross! Luckily the med tent there will be closer than IM Lou!! As far as bikes I like the Queen K, Several of the Cervelos, and of course I cannot leave out the planet X! But right now the new P2C fullultegra for 2500 then I would take the durace off my bike switch them and then add a power meter and some racwe wheels!!!But of course whatever fits is what I will choose!

So should I sign up now to work the finish at the IMFL?  To fill everyone else in, Chris was the one who caught me at the Ironman Louisville finish line.

Weightloss for a sweet new ride?  Where do I sign up!?!  You're a very lucky man.  Any consideration as to what you might get?

Hey Scott, I was in your shoes last May, but didn't have time to prepare for any races before the end of the season IMHO. I also ride a MTB & my wife won't let me get a nice road bike until this fall & I don't want an enrty level bike. I tried to talk her into letting me buy a new 2007 Trek Madone 5.2 last fall for $2K at a LBS, but she wouldn't go for it. I had already spent my year's allowance on a Tuff Shed & 24" wheels for my pick up. I did dump about $500 into my MTB to make it road worthy. I bought a solid fork, new shifters, a new bomb-proof wheelset for the street, & a few other goodies. The biggest motivation aid has been my Garmin 305 Forerunner.

I was also wanting to lose weight & did! In my experience, the most important aspect to losing weight is diet. I was able to find a Nutritionist at a local hospital that helped me. Her rates were very reasonable because my insurance didn't cover her care. If you have any questions about the advise she gave me, feel free to ask.

Aaron, I had planned on a local 12K this spring, but I found out last night that it falls on the same day as my first sprint, so I'll probable do the local Half Mary & maybe a trail race. I'm going to give my leg 2 more weeks to heal & if I'm still having problems, I'll go see my Doc. I saw a massage therapist several times last year, but now my insurance won't cover it any longer. I'm currently using a new style eliptical machine at the gym an hour a day to stay in shape & the weight training doesn't seem to bother me, just hard running & tennis agravate it & the pain goes away a day later. It doesn't feel like a typical muscle strain. I really miss my distance running, it is my favorite of all the disiplines.

Hi Aaron,
Can I join the group? I'm a 46 year old with two kids (14 year-old boy, 11 year-old girl), I started training for a sprint tri in the spring of 2006. I did my first 5k that spring, and my first sprint tri in the fall of 2006. This past season I did two more sprints. I have lost a little motivation and have slacked off on my training and would like to get back into it and, if I can do it, run an olympic distance triathlon this summer. I'm hoping for some tips to help me run faster and maybe even ride faster. As far as the swim goes, I'm happy just to survive! Mostly it is nice to have the support and encouragement of others out there to keep up the training...

I would like to join your group if possible I am 50 years old and just started with the couch to tri program. I am married to my lovely wife of 28 years I am planning on doing my first sprint later this year. I live in Cleburne Texas, but work out of my travel trailer during the week. Right now I am working in Bowie Texas but will move to Athens for 8 months in February. Finding a place to swim seems to be the hardest obstacle right now. I also need to lose weight. While on my 8th week of the program I am eating a lot better now and the weight is starting to come off (Only one coke a day and I cut it)

Thanks!  I am definitely going to throw myself in the pool more and if all goes well then maybe I will try for an '08 triathlon.  Logging my nutrition is also a good idea - like you, I think that I might be surprised.

 The Marine Corps Marathon is indeed a great race!  I am originally from the DC area so running my first marathon in that area was definitely special.  I want to run in it again this year because I loved the course and so that I can beat my time!

I have a swimming and run tomorrow, bike and run the next day, swim and bike the next, run on friday and bike on Saturday and run on sunday. It all base for me for quite a while. It will be first time I have been in a pool training since June!!!
