Ok. I'm back. I don't think I ever want to be sick again. I figure since I've already had a cold and the flu, I'm golden for a while. I'm restarting my week 3 training tomorrow since I haven't been in the gym for over a week. See if I can keep on track this time.

AHHHH first morning back in the gym. Finnally got the floor done to a point where I can start living life again. It was rough getting up this morning, but I pounded out the little ride that was part of the plan. I probably could have done more than the little 4 miler, but I figured since I haven't been in the gym in 3 weeks and that is what the plan calls for that is what I am going to stick to today.

Now we will just have to see how it is being back in the pool and running tomorrow.

I am not trying to get in a discussion on rather it is worth it or not but do any of you all lift?I have about 10 years experience and have been doing the abs diet lifting and will continue to do for 6 weeks to see one the change in my weight and two what it has to do with my SBR. yes I know the less I weigh the faster I may go but I think the two would have a direct correllation. But will track it and see. So again any other lifters out there and what are you doing?

Well now I am really back into things. I am kind of regretting taking so much time off. It wasn't so bad when it came to the bike because I am pretty confident in that, but this morning swimming and running was a little more difficult than I thought it would be.

2 kind of difficulties that I have now pondered.

-In taking so many weeks off should I continue on to where I should be, or go back to where I left off? I set up up this program so that the end of it matched up with my first race, so if I go back then I won't have the program finished by the first race. On the other hand I have some catch up to do in order to make sure I am where I need to be. I am thinking it might just have to do with the fact I havent been in the gym for a couple weeks and if I just keep with it I will be fine by next week.

-I have a little time crunch. For instance this morning I was supposed to swim 400 yrds and then do a walk/run combo for 35 mins. So my gym opens up at 5:00am and I really need to be out of there by 6:00 so I can get to work before 7:00. So the only way to really make that happen is to do the swim really fast and do a quick change and hope that looking forward the program doesnt really expand anymore times. So I am not really sure what to do in handling the balancing of time an needing to do the workouts.

Overall it is good to be back.

So Aaron, how did the camp go??

Absurdly fun!  And horribly painful.

1-2 hour swim to start each morning.  The majority of which was swim start simulations which were really worse than real life because we were all using the same strategy and hitting each other over the head to get to the front pack.

Rides were outstanding and it felt great to get sun burned for a change.  The headwinds were brutal each day but our long ride to Hawi and back gave us a 40mph, hour and a half long tailwind.  The Wednesday ride was a hill.  One hill.  One 6.2 mile, 1 hour long hill.  It would jump back and forth between 20-24% and 10-15% grades.  I was the only one who made it in under an hour, and I had to walk one hill.

Runs.... they were in Hawaii, so they were awesome.

I'm already signed up for next year.  Check my log the last two weeks for pics.

Thats awsum Aaron! Id love to do something like that one day if I choose to do another IM after my first this year.

Wow tahts some hill. now I could use something like that for LP hill prep

Aaron may have better insight on where to start back off. But how many weeks did you have completely off?? normally if it was over 1 or 2, you need to take a step back. I dont know what your base was before that though. What plan are you using?
if you give us those three things maybe we can help.

Well the program I am using is the Michael Pates Total Sprint - 22 Week. Sadly to say I took about a month off in total(stupid flooring project thinking I can do in a weekend, never again). It wasn't like I was dying on the workout this morning, it is just that I could tell I have missed a month of workouts.

So, the last time I was in the gym until today was 1/21 (hangs head in shame).

So, I went back today and actually had a good session on the treadmill. I was convinced that I was going to be struggling but I didn't. At all. I was supposed to do a 5/2 walk/jog combo for 30 minutes, but I changed it to 4/2 because that equals out to 30 minutes

So the first 4/2 combo went really well. I actually jogged for the 2 minutes! I was shocked. The remaining 4/2 didn't go as well. I think I did 1 1/2 minutes for all but the last 2 times. But I wasn't disappointed at all. I was pumped by the time I finished my session.

I still have yet to dip my toe into the pool though. I know I can catch up on those sessions before my race day though.

So for Valentines my fiance gave me a gift certificate to get my VO2 Max Tested and my RMR. Which is a awesome gift. My question is to you Aaron when should I get it(should I train longer and get more base in or will now be just as good) and what should I be looking to get out of it. I know a little about the subject but am no means a specialist in it.Thanks!

I got tested last week on my bike on my trainer. I'm 43, 5'10.5" & weigh 180lbs. My VO2 Max was 42.8, my RMR is 1800, my body fat was 12.8% my resting HR was 48, my max METs (maximum oxygen consumption) was 14.9, my somatyping was 3.3 Endomorphy, 4.7 Mesomorphy, 1.7 Ectomorphy. I tested 110.8% of predicted forced expiratory volume (lungs) & 110.6% of predicted forced vital capacity (heart). My flexability GPA (like school) was 2.44 & my strength GPA was 3.28 (out of a possible 4.0). My LT is 155.

The VO2 Max test was done the second week, & all the other tests were performed the week before. My numbers the first week looked so good that the tester was predicting very good numbers for my VO2 Max test (high 50s). He said my lower than expected VO2 Max number was due to a weak base & suggested that I work on base training for the next 9 months.

What do you guys think? This is a lot of info & I'm still trying to digest it.

So the gym that I work out at is having an indoor tri on March 2nd. I think it is a basic 10 min swim, 30 min bike, and 20 min run. I think I am going to do it just to see how I am doing in my training and to get a good workout in.

First, does anybody have any advice as far as yes or no to do this with me being only a month and a half into the couch to sprint training program?

And also does anyone have any advice as far as actually doing these indoor tris?

I actually did one a couple of years ago, with not much training or anything. I stunk up the place pretty badly and I couldn't really walk for a couple of days afterwards. Hopefully this will be a better experienc.
