Subject: Northern Kentucky Training?

Hey, i'm new to triathlon training, and I would like to find some folks in the northern kentucky area who can offer suggestions, or may even want to train with me as well.  Also, any suggestions on good initial races to start?

Welcome! I recommend Tri for Joe in late May at Coney Island in Cincy for a starter.  It was my first tri and got me hooked.  It's well ran, has excellent support, and a party like atmosphere.  The bike and run are flat, so it's not too hard and is a good confidence builder.  The water was about 60 degrees, though.  The cold literally knocked my breath out of me.  I haven't seen the listing for 09 yet.  Good luck and enjoy.

Here's the link for Tri for Joe.  I did this one in 07 and loved it.  The swim is a crazy layout and I agree that the water is freezing, but it is a fun well run race.  HFP Racing, the people that put together Tri for Joe, have a lot of races that are reasonably close for N. KY people.  If not in N. KY, then certainly in Cincy there has to be a local triathlon club that you can look into.  Good luck.

WELCOME!  My wife and I have been doing tri's around here for about 10 years now.  If we can be of any help, please don't hesitate to ask.  As stated above HFP RACING is pretty much the GO TO kinda place for OHIO.  KY doesn't have much in the way of quality tri's really.  Indiana has a few good ones as well, put on by the Tuxedo Brothers.  If you're looking for riding buddies (once it's warm) or whatever, just pop on over to my site and ask.  HAVE FUN!

My wife and I live in Latonia, and are members of Silverlake in Erlanger, but we'd like to be part of a club as well.  Perhaps start a new Thread on NORTHERN KY TRI CLUB when you get it up and running, or are looking for members.

Awesome - [email protected]

Have a message board license and we'll get this thing started. I'm a definate beginner but have found that endurance training (other than bike riding) can be a little boring, so this would be a perfect oppritunity I think to push each other.

Natalie - nope, people generally don't wear wetsuits for a pool-based swim.  In fact, the water temp may be high enough that they wouldn't be legal anyway.

Otherwise, have fun - that pool swim looks kind of fun - definitely not the norm.  Most are time trial starts (one at a time) in a serpentine fashion up and down the lanes.

Good luck!

ETA: Actually, on the site is says that wetsuits ARE permitted.  Over 700M they may make a difference.  And I found the photo site.  Sure looks like a lot of folks chose to wear a wetsuit!!!

Hi,

I have recently moved to Union, KY with my wife. I am keen to get back into Triathlon's and Dualthlon's.

I have completed the Sprint Triathlon and and planning on training so I can compete in some local triathlons. I would like to train and get fit enough for a 70.3 iron man.

I saw this thread and was wondering whether you managed to get a club started?

Well, judging by the lack of response I would guess the answer to be no.

It would likely be a 30-40 minute drive to most of their training sites (or longer), but check out www.cincyexpress.org

Responded to email. Second shift pretty much kills anytime that I could train with anyone unless 0500 - 0700am at Silver Lake, or on the weekends. Anyone train at East Fork or know what the swimming area is like at East Fork?

Lot of good people on the Cincy Express team! Know they train at Caesars Creek which is 80 miles away from me unfortunatly.

Yeah, check out cincyexpress.org They train in Cincinnati, north of town at Caesars and out at East Fork. They also run their weekly runs out of Newport. There are several people located in NKY that train together as well. Great support at races too. Having teammates' support can be a huge boost as you are getting started in the sport. They have some horses too. IMWC qualifiers, ITU short/long distance qualifiers, HalfMax qualifiers, 70.3 WC qualifiers, etc. Good group.
