fgump, and anyone else that has scoped out the run course, what is the run course like, hillwise? You guys out there training on the actual course are hardcore! I hardly ever do that!

Hey Carol,

I don't know if I know exactly how the run course goes. There is a maze of trails in there. The bike is straight forward though. I really hate those speed bumps heading out of the park. You really have to watch your gearing as you come down a hill, slow down for the second to last speed bump because it immediately kicks up a bit. Both times I road the course I got stuck in too high of a gear.

Are you guys meeting at the "sneak swim spot" tomorrow? Where is it located? I thought I found a cove to swim at in Harris Lake but there were too many fishing boats trolling around this weekend.

Its mostly unpaved with some small hills and uneven footing. Basically it is a path with two "ruts" made by vehicle tires, with occasional gravel thrown down. There are some humps running crosswise to get over, so you will have to pay attention. Almost like speed humps. The first 1/2 has very little shade. I cant speak to the second half as I got confused. I went to googlemap and using the satellite feature have figured it out. I hope to run it Friday early, as I am off from work this week. If you want to go, send me a PM.

I forgot to mention those. There are five of those! I was hoping they were going to do something about them!

Yes, I am planning on swimming at Jordan lake Wed evening this week. It's off Big Woods Road, about half way.

If you go to this link, and then select Sneak Spot, you can get directions to it.

If anyone wants to get on the swimming email list, just shoot me a PM with your email address.

I've emailed the the setup people regarding the speed bumps.

I noticed that they are bolted in and can be removed. Since this is a closed park at race time i see no liability for the removal of them for the bikes.

We'll see what they respond with.

They are pretty steep and will definitely pinch a tire at speed- even if you lift...

Also, if you go check out the swim exit, there are little pinecones everywhere! i hope those are moved prior to race day, or this could make for an entertaining run to transition- half dazed from the swim and steppin on pinecones....lol

Sorry, just saw this thread.

I chatted with Bill Scott last week-according to him, they will be installing ramps around the speed bumps.  Not to worry.

The run course is about on par effort-wise with the old Triangle course.  Terrain is kind of like Duke 1/2 footing-wise (not hill-wise!).  The first mile is out and back in some desolate terrain.  Once you come back downhill, then up, you take a hard left onto a wide grass path.  I'm hoping they mow it very short.  It's a tricky little section, but once you get past the well tank and the arbor, it evens out up past the disc golf course.  You can lay the hammer down once you get through the gate, hard right onto the park road, then you're on pavement all the way in (almost).  Looks like the finish will be on grass.

You wearing racing flats? I think I will, just because I know I can go sockless in them, and I need to save every second I can to have a shot at beating my friend and rival - who I call "Aquaphor chic". She beat me at Pinehurst. Very sweet and fast lady!

Hey, is there a good place where BTers can meet after the race? I'll probably see fgump go flying by me on the bike (at which point I will be yelling at him) but not sure on the waves and when other people start and having never actually seen any of you in person I am likely to just miss out on the chance to meet you if we don't work something out!

That's a great idea, I don't know anything about the park setup - I'll stay tuned to this thread in case someone thinks of a place.

After the race, I am going to be wearing a bright green jersey, see attached picture. So, it should be easy to spot me! During the race, I will be wearing a black tri racing suit. I also have a black tri bike, so I hope to be one mean biking machine!

There a couple of possible areas. The kids playground, the  picnic tables near the swim start spring to mind first.

My kids will be there so chances are I will be chasing them around a little. Picnic tables sound like a plan too- chances are my kids will be venturing into the lake as soon as I show up. Not sure what I will be wearing- might go shirtless if that is allowed and its warm enough (it should be!) or a red/black profile design tri shirt. I'll look out for the bright green shirt though!

*bump* one week til...woot!

Swim- will be my longest and first distance completed in open water- i tried to practice this weekend in the ocean at emerald isle, wave turbulence was dealt with ok, sighting was weird but i think i can manage but the thought of a large Charlie the Tuna with teeth spooked me and i gave up and went in...

Bike- have completed the course a couple times now, should be a great ride with a rewarding end!

Run- my goto event but never ran the actual course- trail running is making me think i need socks...

As for meeting up afterwards...the playground seems to be the most centrally located POI- i'd love to meet more BTers.

I'll be there as well this weekend.  I'll be wearing my 'Compass Elite' tri suit...it's black, white and red.  Good luck to all the BT'ers!  I'm sure we'll all fun on the new course!

I'm assuming that everyone else got their e-mail last night about the race and read the details. I was bummed to read the section about limited parking. It's going to make it tough for my cheering section.

A few notes:
While better for the racers, this will be worse for spectators.  I sent notes to a few friends that if they wanted to spectate, to come park along the bike course.  I am carpooling with two other racers, one spectator, and 2 kids.  Our vehicle will definitely qualify as HOV.

Note the mention about the ramps.  Bonus points to anyone that can perform a tabletop...

Also note, the run course appears to have changed direction.

yea i'm sorta bummed too.

my parents really wanted to come see what Tri's are all about and would be traveling in from Sanford. I really don't want to have to haul them in during transition setup time. But i guess that's the only option they have right now.

The speed ramps will definitely be interesting. Harold, remind me to tighten up my handle bars so i don't dive over them when they fall like the last practice ride we had. What also sucks is there's no goin around the side this time.

Do you also qualify as HOV if you are the only racer but have your posse with you? I'd have 4 people in the car but only one racer...just trying to figure out what to tell the entourage. What do you guys think?

i think their main concern is keeping cars at a min.

the parking lots are quaint in real estate, and there's always the side of the road. But now imagine 900 +- cars there...caos (and that's just participants)

Absolutely.  Load that car up.  That's what they're trying to get at; they don't want to have to use the shuttles-it's not eco-friendly!  Not even sure where the "remote" parking will be at this point (I'm thinking the nuke plant visitor's center...)

See y'all out there Sunday.  Hydrate up-gonna be hot this weekend!

Anyone else driving in from Eastern Wake County? I'm just volunteering, so no stuff to haul. They told me I could park in the park if I was there by 6:30, but if I can avoid taking a spot, I'd like to. I may bring my bike, park remote and bike in.

I'm dismayed at the lack of planning. To host a race with 1000+ participants in a spot with hardly any parking? What were they thinking! I am guessing that Triangle will go back on my list of "Must Not Do" races after this weekend.
