Subject: season over .......maybe tris over.......
I've been having breathing issues lately. Lots of docs and tests. Last night I went to the er in excruciating pain, and they admitted me to the hospital with blood clots in my lungs. If I have to be on cumadin, doc says no cycling. Maybe ever.Certainly not how I envisioned this ending.

If the clots originated in your legs (as is usually the case) then they could put in a greenfield filter so you do not have to be on coumadin....

worth asking about - as well as the work up for why you got the clots to begin with.... APC resistance?

Sorry to hear that, man... of course before worrying about cycling, hope those clots go away.

I'm on Coumadin, and am on the bike... and my doctor is aware... all my doc said was "Make sure you wear a helmet."  Ok.

There are other BTers also who have raced while on blood thinners... I wouldn't worry too much about long-term stuff right now.

Best of luck getting rid of those clots.

I am glad that the clots were caught..those things are nothing to play around with. I will keep you in my prayers...like everyone else said, get those boogers taken care of and go from there.

Chris,

1) Get better
2) Listen to your Dr.'s
3) Make sure they figure out why you got the clots in the first place
4) AFTER clots are disolved and medication under control you "should" be able to ride (many of us do or did)
5) You can ride after having had clots (I've had 2 previously, had to take blood thinners while pregnant) and was cleared to ride
6) Keep your chin up!
7) Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Lani

I'm so sorry to hear this - best wishes for a quick and complete recovery.  For what it's worth, my father had a series of clots that caused a pulmonary embolism and necessitated him going on cumadin for quite a long time.  He's now off it and able to exercise again, so don't lose hope!

Wow, so sorry to hear this.

I think I've heard from somewhere that not cooling down properly after a workout can cause this for athletes, hopefully it's not something that is chronic!
