Expert 1091 St. Paul, MN | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? Perpetuem and I do NOT get along! I like CarboPro mixed in with diluted Gatorade. CarboPro has no flavor, and I can easily make a water bottle have 800 calories. (I think the most I crammed into a water bottle was about 1500 calories, but that got a little thick...) Good luck getting the nutrition figured out! |

Veteran 297 | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? hhmmmmm..... lots of things to try. I like the idea of mixing carbo pro and gatorade. Guess I didn't realize it came in an unflavored powder, I had only seen the bottles of it where it was red and syrup-y looking (is syrup-y a word?!)I think infinit and carbo pro are at the top of my list. Any other electrolyte products other than endurolytes and salt stick? I think I'm going to try salt stick next year. |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? I was skeptical on the Infinit stuff, but gave it a shot last year and have stuck with it for the bike. I use GU once an hour to change things up, but have gone pure Inifinit as well. I use GUs, NUUN (flavors the water, gives some electrolytes, but not lots of calories), and GU2O for the run. I have never had GI issues in any of my races. I did try my same Infinit on a run earlier this year and that didn't work well, so I never tried it again. A BIG plus for me and Infinit is that when it gets warm (or hot, I live in Texas!) it still tastes fine and doesn't get disgusting. You can also dial the flavor of Infinit lower or higher as you please. Also, Infinit is VERY user friendly. If you have questions about it, how to make your customized blend, just call and they will help you out. Batch doesn't work, call, and they will fix it for you. I don't really get hungry taking Infinit on the bike as well. Let's hope all the good things I just said about it still hold up after IMFL.... |

Veteran 416 | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? I'm Infinit on the bike too. It's kind of creepy to go on a6 hour ride with just Infinit and realize "Wow, I'm not even hungry." I've been doing Gu + Endurolytes on the run, but I think I'm going to try to work with Infinit on that too. I really had to force the gels at my IM two weeks ago. |

Master 1222 Lafayette, IN | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? I use Infinit on the bike with a couple Thermolytes if very hot just for insurance. (probably don't need those). I tried the run formula and it was too salty tasting for me so I use GE. For IMWI I will experiment with additional solid food in case I suffer from "flavor fatigue" with just Infinit. I also use the Infinit Recovery product. Great stuff. I tried the Hammer products and they did not sit well with me. And I had a hard time with the flavor. |

Expert 1226 Chicago | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? I probably have one of the most rebellious stomachs in the sport, so finding products that agree with me consistently is an ongoing challenge. In the past I've had HEED and Perp work for varying degrees of time only to fail me after extended use throughout a season. I tried the CarboPro 1200 earlier this year and couldn't keep it down. I think it's a great calorie dense solution for those who can stomach it, but it just wasn't a good fit for me. I didn't dilute it with water, but rather consumed it as is followed by water--that may have been part of the problem. This season I switched to Infinit and have had some great success with it. My nutrition plan (for HIM and IM) is to drink a few sips of Infinit every 10 minutes while alternating Gu and Roctane every 45 minutes (starting at the 30 minute mark). My Infinit blend is 285 calories per bottle and I usually polish off a bottle every 90 minutes or so since I'm supplementing with gels. Depending on the heat, I'll take 2 endurolytes on the hour mark. Gu is strictly orange burst and Roctane is the blueberry pomegranate (although I'm excited to see if the Pineapple one will sit well in my stomach so I can mix up the flavors). I always carry 2 in case of emergency Payday candy bars (one for each half) because sometimes I really need to change up the taste and I need to feel like I'm consuming something solid. I tend to live off the land when it comes to the run...a Gu every 4-5 miles and Gatorade. |

FRS Energy - legit? if you do exclusively carbopro with water, you will probably need to get some sodium somewhere. Salt pills would take care of it. Edited by gopennstate 2009-09-29 2:24 PM |

It's completely tolerable even after 6+ hours in the sun. Seriously. Try that with Perpeteum. EEEEEEEEEEW. |

Veteran 196 Arlington, VA | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? How does everyone do 6 hours of Infinit on the bike? I'm hoping for a 6 hour bike split, so I'd like 6 1 hour bottles or equivalent. Are you mixing up concentrate and alternating with water (with a replacement at special needs) or carrying two or three regular bottles? Also, how does an aid station on the bike work? Do people come to a full stop, or try to grab bottles rolling through? How about gels? I'm kind of picky about flavors--I know IMLP has PowerGel, but vanilla is the only one I can eat. Can I count on finding some at each station, or is it somewhat random? |

Alpharetta, GA | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? First 4 IM's were: Cliff Bars + Powergels+GE on bike GE + Powergels on run Changing it up a little for IMFL this year and going Infinit only on bike, GE + Water + Powergels on run. I'm hoping that this will solve the "I just can't put another drop of GE in me at mile 18 on the run" problem. I'm so sick of it by that time. |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? I am blessed with an iron stomach so I can tolerate about anything although I don't care for gatorade and I don't care for most gels. I do LOVE accelerade. I like orange and lemonade flavors best. I use NUUN and accel gels or raspberry hammer gels. I use candy as well. I mean really you need SUGAR. I have used laffy taffy (little ones have 30 calories) and airheads (little ones have 47 calories) orange slice candies (50 calories). All small portable and dont' melt (Live in FL so the doesn't melt part is important) Also payday bars. I like cliff shots but they are pricey and I can get a whole bag of laffy taffy or airheads for $4. I use a combo and try to get to 250-300 caloires an hour on the bike using whatever floats my boat that day. On the run I dont' eat as well. I use a hand held bottle and I use accelerade and NUUN for fluids and usually the orange slices work best in training. In races I use cliff shot blocks. I use lava salt electrolyte tablets. I'm a heavy salt sweater and they have a lot more electrolytes than enduralytes. |

Can I count on finding some at each station, or is it somewhat random? I decided that I will mix 6 1 hour bottles with 3 on the bike to start and 3 in special needs. I can stop for 2 minutes to reload. I am going to use a Speedfil which holds 40 oz. so I can fit almost 2 bottles in that. I will carry a couple bottles of water and grab more at aid stations. If I consume 1 bottle of Infinit and enough water to hit my hydration needs, I should be okay. I will set my reminder on my bike computer to beep every ten minutes at which time I will drink. I would take your own gels if I were you so you are sure to get the flavor you want. Put them in your T1 bag, load your jersey pockets during transition and you will have them if you need/want them. |

Can I count on finding some at each station, or is it somewhat random? I concentrate it in 24ozs bottles. I can get 3 hours in a 24oz bottle without it being "too concentrated" for me. I can get 2.5 hours in a 20oz bottle. I sip a good three sips from it every 20 minutes and chase it with water from aero bottle. That way, for IMFL all I have to do is have two nutrition bottles and my aero bottle for water (it's actually a podium quest, so holds more than a regular aero bottle). I will pick up additional water on the route. I will have a special needs bag, but it'll be my "just in case something bad happens" and I need to replace a launched nutrition bottle, or get another tube, etc. If I don't have to stop for my special needs, I won't. For the bike stop, people go rolling through--now, that doesn't mean you can't stop, but you need to be SUPER careful that you aren't stopping front of someone. At IM, they will have porta potties, etc. there. So, there will be places to stop, just pay attention to the volunteers and your fellow riders. I can't help you on the gels. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? I make my own nutrition which is similar to infinit concept or carbopro for about 10% of the cost. Maltodextrin, lava salts, and flavoring...make 2 hour bottle with 6 20' doses of 22 grams for bike and in fuel belt 8 bottles with 2 doses of 15 grams each with flavoring and lava salts. Has very little taste, customize for taste, sodium & calories needs, easy to digest and cheap. For maybe $75 two year of IM training. Plus it is simple to use and hard to screw up. It's all I had at IM Canada other than 4 pretzels. Last year I had three options of food for run and bike and practiced them all, this is much simpler and easier to execute. Veteran 371 | Subject: RE: what nutrition products do you love? Bike: Infinit - my mix has no protein and lower electrolytes which I think I'm gonna adjust next time I order. Ended up having to supplement with lava salts. At IM WI this year, I had 3 bottles of Infinit and 3 bottles of water. (I have a low sweat rate in case you're wondering if that's not enough liquid) Because it has no protein, I find that I get hungry and crave something solid, so I do Clif Shot Blocs - 1 pack for 56 miles, 2 for 112 miles And PowerGel Green Apple flavor Run: I can't stomach Gatorade Endurance, so I used exclusively PowerGels, water and coke. I took coke right from the beginning and alternated coke and water/gel. |
