Great.  I aged up this year, so I start at 8:34.  148 in my swim wave.  So basically some of the Pro men will be crossing the finish line before I even start swimming.  The older I get, the slower I get and the later I start.  I've either got to get younger or faster, LOL.

What's this practice swim someone mentioned?  Is it something official that the race holds?  Or a BT practice swim?

ditto on the practice swim

RE: swim practice.  They put the buoys out a few days before the race.  Typically BTers plan a time to meet and do a practice swim together.  There are usually several groups.  ITs not a formal thing and people are welcome to go swim at anytime.  Lots of people in the water.

coming from Indiana, it has been a few months since I had opportunity to do OW so I will def give it a go on Sat morning.

maybe do the whole course 4 or 5 times just to make sure that I don't get lost on race day and end up out in the Gulf somewhereWink

I think I made a mistake registering as a novice, but I've never done the event, its my first Olympic distance and I havent raced in over a year due to injuries.  My wave is LAST - 9:10 start time!!  Thats going to make for a warm run!!

New to BT - hi!

this will be my 1st olympic distance tri, and have heard nothing but good things about it.  i'm excited!  my training has been hampered by nagging injuries related to the run, but i'm just looking forward to the experience more so than trying for a good time.

17 days and counting

although i grew up in that area, don't live there now.  just trying to get a feel for the swim course...  while the course looks to be an out-over-and back it doesn't look square.  anyone know about how long each of the legs is?  does it go to the end of the pier or farther?  i've heard not quite that far, but then when i try to lay it out on google eart, i can't get it to fit 1500m.  just curious about how far to go before turning.

ScottUF - the first leg usually goes to almost to the end of the pier, then after turning left, you swim a bit northeast (as opposed to dead north), then you angle a little southwest for the leg back. They make it fit

Im a newbie as well, this will actually be my second St. A's, the first was in 1989 as I went to cheer on my dad's relay team.  One guy was a no show so I was roped into biking.  I havent done a race since then, I ve been working for almost a year to do a Sprint but the opportunity came up where I could get into this one.  Since I swim( I use the term loosley) late, I plan on watching some of the pro's in T1.  If you swim over an older dude doing the back stroke, dont worry, I can hold my breath pretty good.  Good luck to everyone, be safe.

I think I'm not just exited.................. I'M SCARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   This race seems to be so intense!!Sealed

To calm down the nerves, I have my son 7 do the Meek & Mighty on Saturday and maybe get a practive swim in the early afternoon.  Hope all that helps....
Non stop butterflies!!! Can you actually sleep the night before the race???

Not much...at least I don't.

I'm with you regarding the nerves. I haven't raced since St. Anthony's two years ago and am feeling the butterflies when I think about it. But that's not a bad thing. In spite of those nerves I'm really looking forward to the race. When I finished last time I promised I'd be back, I just didn't expect it would take two years!

I feel good about my preparation for the bike and the swim, but I'm not anywhere near where I should be for the run.

My motto....just get to the finish line!

Its not scary its FUN!!!  Good friends good times!!  DOn't be scared embrance the fun Lets face it first of all none of us make our lving doing this....its a hobby.  THeres LOTS more serious things to be upset and scared over than a race.  Do your best have a bunc of fun

jitters let you know you are alive   once you take the plunge in the water, the adrenaline will rush and you will be on your way and about 20 strokes in to the swim you will no longer be nervous!!  It's a great weekend, soak it all up!!
