Well, it's a little more than that, but that's a start :=) There are natural healing ''powers'' in many foods and herbs. As an example--When we lived in PA, we frequented a health food store, wherby the owner had ovarian cancer...she healed herself, never went for chemo or the ''conventional'' treatments. She ate tons of ''superfoods,'' and healed herself. She might have caught it at an early stage, but I don't believe that we need to jump on the chemo wagon the minute we hear the ''c'' word...cancer.

And I had a friend who followed a homeopathic approach to healing her cancer and died. A study where n=1 is worthless.

It's also easy to claim pretty much anything and use it as evidence.  Nothing against Sharyn who posted it, but I'm highly skeptical of claims like that unless I see more.

+1. Anecdotes make for good stories and bad data. I am all for studying situations where cancer was beaten without conventional treatment. However, if I am diagnosed with cancer tomorrow and the doctor recommends chemo, I'll get it.

Okay...I am just saying to research treatments that's all...I will not just go with whatever a doctor suggests...they ALL recommend surgery or chemo, that's my point. I want to see other options out there...chemo is so hurtful to one's immune system. I can't be the only one that thinks this here. Embarassed

i think everyone realizes the negative effect chemo has on your overall health, temporarily, but chemo has a PROVEN rate of effectiveness that acai berries don't.

So what are you going to research about alternative treatments if there isn't any research done?  It's fine to believe in healthy eating and the like, but at some point it's your life and health at risk.  Do you trust the guy at the local GNC or somebody who's gone to school for quite a long time and undergone training in these areas?

FWIW, I am an Internal Medicine physician, and we don't "always" recommend anything.

Sharyn5 - 2010-03-16 4:24 PM I said this a few posts up...I'm not against modern medicine, just not that being the only option. I think that there can be a happy marriage between modern med. and alternative medicine. My dad died of cancer, I have known many who have died from cancer...all underwent chemo. Maybe I'm jaded. Frown

That's kinda what cancer does regardless of treatment.  It sucks.

I apologize for helping to lead the thread off topic.

No need to apologize.  It's what we do here.

Wear a fat suit for a day you will find the answer is a resounding yes.  Shoot you don't even have to wear a fat suit and just watch people and you will see the answer is a resounding yes.  It is truely sad.

Heck, you don't even have to leave this site -- just keep an eye on Tri Talk and Athenas/Clydes. Some variation on "big/fat/slow/old/unserious people are gross and should get out of my way" or "A/C is just the self-esteem club for fat people that ruins my pure clean sport" should be along shortly.

People (in general) will really fight tooth and nail for their "right" to look down on people who aren't naturally thin, fit, or athletic, and for the "truth" that you're a better person than someone who weighs more/eats worse/exercises less than you.

Well to unhijack the previous hijack and move onto a new hijack--really? I feel like this is sort of the opposite vibe I get from BT. Maybe I'm reading the wrong threads or something...

I agree.  The tone I get from BT is very much one of support and understanding.  And I hope it stays that way.  Furthermore, when I have seen posts that are condescending in tone, the posters usually get called out on it.

I would comment but I can't remember which Jack / Hijack we are on.  I'm starting over at page 1 to see if I can figure it out.

Re: the tone of BT -- the vast, vast, VAST majority of posts on this site are supportive and understanding. It makes BT awesome, as we all know. But every now and then, a thread starts with an innocuous but judgment-tempting question ("Are the machines at the gym fooling people?" or "Is it worth it for a person to walk around the block a few days a week and have that be their only lifestyle change from the couch?" or "Why do people race just to 'finish' ?" or "I'm in great shape but over 200 lbs., should I compete as a Clyde or AG?" ) and suddenly some people will burst in with big/fat/slow/old/unserious bashing. Tripolar is right that people usually do get called out on it. The nastiest posts/threads tend to be quietly yanked, often before anyone notices. Luckily the community is such that no one rubs it in or holds grudges for years like they would on lesser forums.
It really doesn't happen that much -- maybe a few times a year. It gets me worked up, probably more than it should, because a lot of athlete communities (online and IRL) are VERY judgmental and unforgiving in my experience, and I worry about the BT I love ever going that way.

Re: People in general -- I stand by that. People suck. A lot.

On topic -- I agree that this woman and her ambition are both sick, and I also agree that her right to destroy her body was lost the moment she had a child. If you are a parent, ALL of your rights are subservient to your child's right to the best upbringing you can provide, until that child is a self-sufficient adult. This lady signed up for that when she chose to have children.
